Name: Levi Andersen
Nickname: given a long list of aliases by his sister [most usually ‘Emp’ – as in EMP – or ‘Pulse’], but he doesn’t appreciate being called by them
Age: 20
Gender: male
Race: human
Nationality: American
Alignment: lawful good
Power level: 5
Timeline: present-day/near future
Appearance:
Hair: It is an ash brown in color and is cut to about medium length in various layers. He keeps his bangs swept to the side, just over his eyes, and brushes the rest of it back so that it hangs just above the base of his neck. In the summer, the roots stay dark while the ends tend to become sun-bleached. He often keeps it pretty stiff with gel to avoid his static causing it to stick straight up.
Eyes: grey-green
Skin: Caucasian; usually tan
Build: Levi has a lean body with most of his muscle mass in his arms and torso. His shoulders are not overly broad and he has a thin midsection with long, thin limbs.
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 155 lbs
Attire: Levi’s usual attire consists of “surfer” or “skater” fashion, usually jeans or baggy shorts and a somewhat-fitted tee shirt. He wears flip-flops year-round and does not care for extra accessories, save for a pair of sunglasses or the occasional cotton wristband.
Levi’s hero outfit, like his casual clothes, is also relatively simple. He wears black Under Armour-type heat gear which is used to help him stay cool [see weaknesses]. The sleeves come about halfway down his upper arm and the waist is tucked into his pants. Over that he wears a thin, sleeveless white hoodie. His pants are black cargo pants that are belted off at the top by a black belt with a steel buckle. His shoes are black boots that come about halfway up his shin, though they are mostly hidden by his pants. They have thick rubber soles which help Levi ground his electricity. He also wears a metal chain on each wrist. Having something metal on his wrists helps him direct his electricity toward his hands.
Outstanding features: Identical scars across the top of the palm of both hands from where he was burned by the fence. He's just the slightest bit nearsighted, so he wears reading glasses.
Personality:
True to his stereotyped home, being raised in the South has given Levi all the typical traits of a Southern beau. He is extremely sociable and makes friends quickly. Loners or introverts might find him annoying and clingy as he often follows people around and attempts to engage them in conversation, even if his efforts are fruitless in the end. He's a little slow on picking up hints, especially insults directed at him. Working tirelessly until he’s reached a goal is one of his greatest assets. Unlike his stereotype, he is not stupid or backwards (even with a slightly more than subtle Scarlett drawl), but rather quite smart. On his worst days, he has been known to form grudges against others or to stop talking. He shows negative emotions very seldom and rebounds from sadness or anger in, usually, just a few minutes. There are a times when he actually prefers to be alone, though they're few and far between. He does not cope with stress well and often slips away to deal with it silently. Also, he sometimes retreats into rural areas after spending long periods surrounded by electricity as his sixth sense [see powers] can be overwhelming at times.
Jung – Meyers-Briggs: “Teacher Idealist” (ENFJ)
History:
Along with four younger siblings and a menagerie of animals, Levi was raised in a rural home in Georgia and indoctrinated with all the classic beliefs of the Bible Belt. All through his childhood, he was responsible for taking care of his three sisters and one brother, a job that he didn't mind. When he got a little older, he was able to help his father on their farm during the summer. He had always been a healthy child and was very fit, so manual labor was no problem for him.
The first two years of high school went very well for Levi. He was near the top of his class and was able to get along with almost anyone due to his magnetic charisma. However, during the fall of his junior year, he began feeling unlike himself. He often had headaches and sometimes felt unusually unsocial. One evening while working with his father to make some repairs to their family’s farm, Levi grabbed hold of an electric fence that he wasn’t aware was live. A shock that normally would have repelled anyone else with a painful zap had the opposite effect for Levi: he was unable to let go. His father managed to pry him away with a wooden handle, and he immediately recovered from the shock. Though his parents tried to convince him otherwise, he assured them that he was fine and refused to go to the hospital. Since he had held onto the fence for so long before being able to let go, there were moderate burn marks across his palms and fingers from the electricity in the wire, which he treated himself with peroxide and bandages. The next day, he returned to school as usual. During one of his engineering courses in the computer lab, his heart began to race and his temperature spiked. Just as his temperature peaked, the computers, lights, and all other electric equipment in the computer lab and the two neighboring classrooms shorted out. Instantly, Levi felt himself stabilize. Obviously, no one could have made the connection between Levi’s illness and the blackout, but Levi himself had assumed the events were related, especially after the fence incident. He didn't mention it to anyone.
Initially, his newfound powers scared him. He thought about telling his family or friends but decided against it; he would rather find out the extent of his powers on his own before telling anyone what he could do. He seriously doubted anyone would believe him without solid proof, anyways, and he didn't even know how to produce an attack on command at that point. With several acres of land, it was easy enough for Levi to slip away into a field where he could be alone and experiment sending out bolts of electricity, using a metal shovel or a coil of copper wire as a target. At one point, he short circuited his younger brother's handheld game with an EMP, making him realize that he controlled two similar but separate powers. After a few months, he had discovered and tested his powers and finally decided to confide in his oldest sister, one year his junior. She swore not to tell anyone else unless her brother asked her to but she urged him to use his gift to help others. As outgoing as he was, that was no problem. She also gave him his superhero alias, though he found it stupid and explained that he wasn't about to start wearing tights and a cape.
Levi has since graduated from high school and is studying engineering, a task that can be difficult based on how much trouble he has been having controlling his electricity that day. In between classes, he acts as a vigilante. He is unsure if his family is suspicious of his superhero status and does his best to keep it a secret, not knowing how they would react. His reason for fighting is simply that he is unhappy with the amount of crime and hate in the world. Also, he believes that his powers are a gift that is meant to be used for good, and vigilante work is the best way he knows to use those gifts.
Powers:
Electromagnetic and Static Electric Abilities:
For whatever reason, Levi’s body naturally builds up electricity which he can release in attacks. He also has the ability to release electromagnetic pulses (EMPs), an anti-tech weapon. He has only had his powers for three years, and is still a relative novice when it comes to using them. However, he has learned to direct his powers well in most settings.
Offensive/Active:
- Short out all electrical equipment in, at most, a forty-foot radius (less if less power is released) by releasing an electromagnetic pulse (where his codename comes from). This can be either permanent destruction or temporary interruption in the function of electrical equipment.
- Release electric shocks from his body. He does best when making physical contact with the object he’s shocking, whether it’s an enemy or an inanimate object. When sending electricity through the air (like lightning bolts) he can only get a distance of about five feet. The closer he is, the more volts he will be able to deliver.
- Operate some equipment. By magnetizing the metal of the inside of a lock, for example, he can open it without a key. Also, he can jumpstart cars, recharge batteries, and turn on other objects that run on electricity.
- Magnetize metal (as stated before)
- Although he’s never attempted it, he could theoretically act as a human defibrillator assuming he was able to control the voltage well enough
Defensive/Passive:
- Withstand electric attacks and getting electrocuted to a certain degree. Enough volts will still knock him out, but his body can naturally absorb static electricity much better than a normal human. (A Tazer would hardly bother him but he'd be dead in an instant if hit by lightning.)
- Sense electricity around him in lighting, appliances, etc. His field of sensation orbits around him in about a hundred foot radius. It gives him no extra strength, rather it's like being able to smell an odor.
-Levi does not have superhuman strength, but he has always been athletic and can lift an impressive amount. He also has excellent stamina and is relatively fast.
Equipment:
He carries no equipment with him.
However, various objects can potentially become weapons for him. For example, any continuous piece of wire, metal pipe, etc. can be a route for sending out electricity. If someone grabs onto one end of the wire and Levi sends electricity into the other end, the person will be electrocuted. This can potentially infinitely increase the span of his attacks, but the electricity would be confined to the wire and would be many times weaker at the opposite end.
Examples of conductors: metal (esp. copper, gold, or silver), water (except pure distilled water with a pH of exactly 7)
Examples of insulators [those materials that do not conduct electricity]: plastic, rubber, air, wood
Weakness:
- Because of the static buildup in his body, Levi can easily become overheated. This is easily counteracted by either releasing electricity in an attack or by submerging himself in cold water to cool his core temperature. He also wears athletic cooling fabrics (Under Armour) to help him stay cool. If he happens to be overheated or running a fever and his temperature stays over 101 for more than about five hours, his body becomes supercharged with electricity and he loses control of his powers until the fever breaks. He could either lose the ability to emit electricity or unwillingly emit it.
-Because his powers involve electricity flowing through his body, using his powers puts a great deal of strain on him. Using his electricity once per day would more or less be the equivalent of getting tazed once per day. Levi himself doesn't realize this, but after awhile, he's going to begin to feel the effects, especially in his heart. However, because his body forces him to use his powers every so often, there's no avoiding it.
…
Random facts:
-He cannot shock himself by touching his body and releasing electricity.
-He has the best control over his powers in the springtime or autumn. In the winter, there is so much static in the dry air that his body often becomes supercharged and he gets a shock from every conductor he comes in contact with, an annoying but harmless phenomenon. The summer is the worst time for him since high temperatures only worsen his overheating issue
-The electricity he uses in his attacks looks like any normal static electricity. When sending it out through the air or sometimes into people, metal, etc., it has a blue-white color and can be heard crackling. His EMPs have no appearance and cannot be detected by the human body.
