"Twenty-three," the blonde answered. "And yourself?"

Zionix began to count out, using her fingers out of habit rather than needing it. It just made it seem more complex. " I think. . .this body is about 23 years old, while I am . . .227 or so. We transfer our souls into engineering bodies to defy death. The only way we usually die is by accident, in fights, or we get tired of living. This is my second body I think." She said it all as if it was normal for one to live that long, or possibly even longer.

But the blonde only nodded in acceptance of her answer. "Some of our archaeologists have uncovered humanoid machines, but we believe they were independent rather than shells for transferring consciousness."

"Ah, so you too will be able to experience a life of eternity, though be warned it might get dull after a while. Did they decide to try and reverse engineer?" She asked, suddenly excited.

"They are some of the most complicated technology we have uncovered," the blonde answered. "It may take some time before we thoroughly understand them."

(Where es Donut?! >.> This Rp would have been so good, but now it just u and me. . .)
"I'm sure you'll get a hold of it soon, from what I've heard, your civilization is very capable. Maybe I can even help later on, if all goes well."
She knocked her feet against each other, clearing a little of the mud off of them, but the gesture in the end would be futile, for there seemed like more road to walk, and even more dirt and mud.

*Two days earlier*
The evening had passed silently and without incident in the metropolis of Darnathir. The setting sun soon gave way to the black sky of night, turning the white ivory streets of the city to a dark opalescent glow. A strange beauty would be illuminated in the surrounding area of this part of the major city, however, the darkness only seemed to deepen within the darker slums segment. Within the darkness of the alleys, a heavy coated figure waited. His body seemingly, his figured accented by large foreign weaponry, his face obscured by a wide brimmed hat. His clothing seemed to blend in with the surrounding area, making him nearly invisible, even with the added weaponry. To the passing eye, he was next to unnoticeable. Another figure soon appeared in the alley, across from the coated figure. The figure in the heavy coat took note and spoke up.
"You the informant I paid for?" A raspy voice echoed gently from the man.
"That depends..." The voice of the newcomer inquired. "Do you happen to be-" The man was about to say before he was cut off
"Dont! Use! Names!" The man shot, the gentleness of his voice becoming harsh and violent. Before returning back to normal. "Yeah... it's me... where are the documents?" he inquired. The new person pulled out a set of papers from his vest, before handing them to the man in the coat. The man took them and began looking them over.
"I paid good money for these, you and your boss better hope I find what I want in here." He growled. The informant however, immediately left as soon as he gave the coated man the documents. The coated man began reading over the handwritten documents. After several minutes, he stuffed away the documents into his coat. He had a new destination, Kegan...

(*cackles* You're still going...sweet...) ((by the way, Angel, could you PM me a link to the character profile you're using? I don't know if you did already or not.))
*Stonebreach Pass*
The man may have been dead drunk, but his directions proved true.
Though it did seem like they still had a ways to go, as they passed a small intersection of side streets, they could see a skull-and-crossbones shaped sign with the words "Blood and Bones" etched and inked upon its face in lavish calligraphy text. The building itself sat at the intersection of the two small streets.
The old merchant wasn't wrong about the place being a good place; contrary to the gorey name and the dark template of the sign, the building itself obviously stood to a higher standard than your usual seedy tavern; the windows and doors were vaulted in the gothic style, inset with stained glass that cast warm reds and browns upon the nearly black alleyway. Somewhat defying the insulated wood and plaster construction of the surrounding buildings, the walls were of granite, the roof supported by doric pillars of the same material.
*Kegan*
Igashu spun around on the stool-top to face Constance. In the same swift move, he leaned back against the counter, supporting himself with his elbows in a reclined position. "The fests? They get a little busy, I suppose, but discounting the odd wandering merchant it's mostly local fare. Almost every town around here, near any significant agriculture, has its own festival at the same time, so I can assure you that there won't be a flood of people. Then again, Kegan is the border town, and I suspect more than a few visitors from the kingdom's neighbors might present themselves...It's mostly all your usual harvest fare, though each town has its own slight variation."
"Why leave?" Igashu asked with a mixture of slight puzzlement and disappointment. "I'm sure we could blend into a good deal of the crowd, and I can assure you we left those poor witless rangers thoroughly lost and confused back on trail..."

"Wow," the blonde uttered as they approached the building, looking even more impressive in comparison to the others. "I'm glad I took the merchant's advice. This place looks far better than I would have expected."
*Kegan*
The Rentisian smirked at that as he turned back to the bar. "Well, you know this land better than I do. If you think we should stay, I wouldn't mind not plowing ahead for a change."

Not paying attention to where she was going the whole time, and generally just walking in the direction the blonde was headed, she only noticed they had reached their destination once the blonde woman said something about it. It particularly wasn't impressive to Zionix, but she was glad that it did look better than the surrounding buildings, and that she had slept in far worse places, and she was more than happy to find a place to relax.
"Phew," she breathed," I'm glad we're here, so now all we have to do is, find that brother of yours, though it just occurred to me that in this whole time, we have yet to exchange names, which would had been done at the beginning of our first conversation. Somehow, I guess we seemed to miss that point."
She smiled and extended her hand. A handshake was generally a gesture that was known in most of the places she'd been as a sign of greeting, though in some places it turned out to be a horrible insult. She however, took a chance. "I am Zionix. Last names aren't given in Qualon."

The blonde chuckled at that. "Ah, the stereotypical folly of scientists, getting so wrapped up in our studies that we forget little things like social niceties." She accepted the handshake easily, and her grip was gentle, her hands soft. "Janis," was the response. "And if you ever need a last name to specify me from another Janis, my surname is Meriodot."

Zionix also chuckled along with Janis, finding the remark to me both true and funny. Zionix's grip was stronger and her hands a slight bit rougher than Janis', much more than a regular female, and may have reminded Janis of a male's handshake, but it was due to rigorous training, and even though she was strong, her hands could also be gentle while working with delicate machinery or other scientific needs.
" Well, now that we have been 'Formally Introduced', shall we proceed?" Zionix smiled again, this was going to be fun she said to herself, a sudden urge of adventuring welling inside her. Maybe it was time to adventure the worlds she landed in, rather than try to only seek to return. Maybe. . .

"Certainly," Janis answered as the blonde got the door and held it open. "After you."
(And now, I'm pretty sure we need to wait for the area description from Donut.)

(Surprise!)
*Stonebreach*[/b]
The inside of the tavern mirrored its external appearances: doric columns broke up the monotony of the rough granite walls. The entire interior was somewhat rectangular in shape, deeper in than it was wide; to the right, along one of these longer walls the bar counter itself extended, behind which stood a great bear of a man busying himself with pouring two more mason jars full of whatever brew the two guys sitting before him had re-ordered just before Zionix and Janis had entered...as they did so, one of the guys slid down the bar to the far end, where sat a woman with long blond hair tied back out of her face, warming by the fireplace under a thick white fur coat and boredly sipping at whatever steaming cup of something that had been served to her.
Five small round tables lined up against the opposing wall, their wooden finishes well-worn from use and abuse. At the middle table, surrounded by well-used pieces of parchment full of scriblings, charts and other odd schematics, sat an unusual pair who chatted amongst themselves: a lanky and quiet man with ruffles jet-black hair and thick-rimmed glasses who had an odd habit of stroking at an either recently shaven or non-existant beard, and a dis-proportionally energetic and chatty gnome with clothes too flashy to have come from anywhere in this region, and a curling handlebar moustache almost twice the width of his face with a matching goatee. For all the gnome's chatter, he kept it quiet and between the two so well, that it was impossible to hear any of their conversation from the doorway.
The inadequate lighting, provided only by the fireplace at the far end of the room and a few old brass braziers suspended to knee-height from the rafters above, was only worsened by the dark slate floor. Indeed, if one wasn't paying attention, one might bowl right over the pale, skeletal old man standing just feet from the doorway, holding what might possibly be a menu to his chest while staring, wide-eyed and unblinkingly, and whoever might have the fortune of walking through the door.
*Kegan*
Igashu was, of course, quite happy to not have to push on for yet another night, and clasped his hands together in general glee as a great grin crossed his face. "Excellent...you're going to love it; the music, the food...it's almost as good as sex," he laughed and leaned backa little farther, but caught himself on the edge of the counter as the stool flipped out from under him.
Glancing about to make sure no one really caught the mistake (unfortunately, all eyes were on him, now), he stood up and righted the stool, clearing his throat a little. "So, uh, yes...shall we?"

*Stonebreach*
It wasn't the darkness that caused Janis to nearly trip over the man, but instead it was her eyes going everywhere as she gathered the details of the place, dwelling on each in turn as her mind produced theories and hypotheses of what each group was in the process of doing. The woman probably was traveling with the two men, given that the two men were ordering together before one slid down to her but didn't seem to be making any moves on her. The gnome and human were probably prospectors, explorers or adventurers in the middle of planning their next dungeon dive or hunt. Her mind made an additional tag that they might be able to help with directions if the tavernkeep couldn't, and then it was interrupted by finding the man in her way.
She didn't hit him, but only narrowly avoided bowling him over, stopping herself just moments from doing so.''
*Kegan*
"Shall we what?" the Rentisian asked with a joking smile on his face. "Have sex? No thanks, Igashu. I appreciate the offer, but I'm saving myself for a woman."
