This is the RP discussed here. The time period is modern and the power level is high-tier low to mid-tier medium, with high-tier mediums accepted on an individual basis. Because I don't wish to give anything away too quickly, please enter doing whatever you would normally be doing, perhaps be at work or around home, but I do recommend you use characters that will travel and at least have some sort of heroic tendencies. Entry points will be given for each character as they enter. The primary portion of this RP will take place in Japan, so be thinking of transportation and language solutions if your character isn't from or familiar with that area of the world.

Mark Auvern sat in a near barren office, it had been a week, and he hasnt yet unpacked. All he got out was the desk, and the computer, nothing else. Didnt bother him, cardboard boxes could be... homely... well maybe not, it mattered little, what was important, that Mark possibly had a job. He was to meet with a representetive who may have had a job for him. He made sure to dress appropriately, button collar shirt and all that, didnt know the type of rep or customer would be sent, and didnt want to make bad impressions, mercs and detectives were unfortunately common these days. He didnt know the specifics of the job, just that it was supposed to be a missing person somewhere. He would learn the details when the person showed up... in the meantime, at least he had Solitare on the computer.

A knock came on the detective's door, and through the frosted pane of the door, he could see a human sillouhette. Apparently, his customer had arrived.

"Come in" Mark replied simply, and clearly, as he looked to the door. He still had to wear his sunglasses, but he ussually just explained to people that it was an eye problem that he wore glasses inside. And it was true as well, it was an eye problem...

The door was opened by a delicately-fingered hand and a shapely, but intelligent-looking woman stepped in. She wore a navy blue business suit and skirt with the top couple buttons of the shirt unbuttoned. Her ebony hair was combed back and held out of the way in an unbraided ponytail without a single hair out of place. Oval glasses perched on her slightly upturned nose over her ice-blue eyes.
"Detective Auvern?" Her tone was soft, but to the point.

Mark almost let out a smirk, how funny was this, a beatiful woman seemingly walking into his office. Now was this really what the detectives life was like? He remember seeing cliche movies like this, now he had a guess at the mission, her friend or husband was missing, just like in thos movies. Did not matter though, just a humorous view. He could tell from her voice that she might be getting straight to the point, fine with him, get things to move faster.
"Yeah... I'm guessing you are the contact? Have a seat." Mark said motioning to one of the chairs in front of the desk, as he opened a word document on his computer, to record any information that was not already to be provided to him in writing.

She sat down in the chair provided, her legs turned off to one side and kept together. "Yes, I set up the appointment." She passed a business card across the desk to him. "I'm Samantha Weathers, an archaeologist specializing in pre-aurthurian mysticism and the surrounding cultures."
Ms. Weathers adjusted her glasses before continuing. "I was working on the documentation end of the dig in Northern Japan. Are you familiar with it?"

"Nothing much, some notes and mentions of it news and such." Mark said taking the card and examining it for a moment, typing some of the information down. Then spoke again "I heard there were some troubles going down, missing persons and such?" Mark said, waiting for confirmation on the type. He thought he read an article about it in the paper awhile ago... but Japan... it's so far away... and... so foreign.

The woman nodded in affirmation. "Dr. Nathanial Weathers, my brother and colleague, and head of the actual dig, itself, disappeared during an excavation. Reports from the dig are sketchy, as those that are still alive are unconscious at Tokyo General, most apparently afflicted with everything from animal bite marks to what seem like plasma burns. The U.S. government refuses to do anything because it's not in their territory, the Japanese government wants to ignore it, and local authorities, private and public, are all too superstitious of the area to act or start an investigation."

"I see... so you need an outside source. Alright, so you want me to take a look around the ruins and such and see what I can find, anything else in particular or is that basically the bullseye I'm aiming for?" Mark questioned, he began thinking up excuses in his mind. He believed in the supernatural, sure, but this seemed easy to explain. Plasma burns from plasma based guns, animal bites from attack dogs. In otherwords, some organization didnt want the archaeologists getting too close, and decided to take one for questioning... sounds like fun.

Dr. Weathers arched a fine, ebony eyebrow. "I was hoping you would do a lot more than just look around. I want you to find my brother. I will pay for any travel and transport you require, in addition to whatever sum you deem necessary for your services. I am not superstitious like the natives, and suspect it is just a group of radicals that jumped them by surprise, but that only makes it more important that Nathanial is found as soon as possible, don't you agree?"

"I was implying I would find your brother." Mark corrected. Typing down his assumptions about the case. Then began thinking on a good price. Not too high, but not too low.
"Alright, lets talk price. The going rate to hire a private detective to find info on someone is anywhere between five hundred and a grand. The rate for getting them to find a missing person, and reconnect, two to five grand. Now, with this case, it's going to be dangerous, I dont want to end up on a hospital bed like the other people, so I'm going to make it eight grand, three if I cant return your brother in one piece, plus travel and all that." Mark explains taking out a contract and filling in some of the blanks, before turning it to Dr. Weathers with the pen. "Feel free to read it over before you sign."

The woman read the contract thoroughly, which wasn't entirely surprising. She came across as the kind of person who was very efficient and exact. Finally, she nodded as she put down her John Hancock and passed the papers back to him. "Your terms are agreeable. When will you be leaving? I will meet you in Japan to show you through the dig."

"I need a day in preparation, but can leave as soon as tommorrow night." Mark said, he needed to collect all the essentials, and buy an english to jappanese dictionary and all that...

"Very well, then. Send the receipts for any transport to my office by the fax number on my card," Dr. Weathers instructed as she stood. "I'll reimburse you for the expenses immediately. I'll be seeing you tomorrow night."
