I don't think discussion of politics should be banned. I just think it should be watched very carefully.
And Kainus, the problem he was mentioning was that people seem to think we have a lot of frivolous rules and restrictions that we lord over them just for the fun of it and that they seem to have no importance whatsoever, when we're really one of the, believe it or not, more lax sites on the net, especially when it comes to what people are allowed to write.

Yeah, I think we may want to add politics to the rule concerning religious discussion. Oft times, some people can get very very stubborn and very very vocal when it comes to politics. And just like debates over the "right" religion, debates over the "right" ruler or "right" policy are doomed to spiral out of control before exploding and wiping out all surrounding internet life. I agree completely, I'm damn tired of politics, and I don't want it here. ~_~

don't worry people, the election season is over, so we don't have to bother with politics for another four years

Now, we just have to put up with TWO MONTHS of the same Christmas carols over and over again. I swear, it's a plot by the extreme liberal left to drive us all INSANE!!!

But... I agree with Ninmast... political discussions aren't as bad as religious discussions. It's one thing to discuss politics... a human thing... a man-made thing... something earthly and not necessary. It's another to discuss religion... where some people base their morals, spirituality, and their LIVES upon.

Which, in that light, gives religion an even greater importance, but the more things people have on the line, the more vehemently they defend it, and therein lies the recipe for disaster.

Politics and religion are inter-twined into one all too often.

Um ... no? Seriously, Beany, I understand why you're on this anti-religion kick you've gotten into lately, but you really need to work on staying on topic.
Politics is only intertwined with religion in the same way oatmeal cookies are intertwined with lactose intolerance. My preference concerning the first is affected by the presence or absence of the second and its qualities.
To put it another way, they're about as intertwined as apples and oranges and you're deviating from the topic at hand.

I've been trying to keep it on topic. But the general consensus does seem to be that banning politics is a bad idea.

Update January 31, 2010
Added an appendix for miscellaneous information at the end, and linked to the (former) announcement on hackers/scammers and identity protection. Because it was needed.

Updated 4-1-10
Information about new requirements relating to member activity.
EDIT: Silly me. You can find the new information at the very bottom, so you don't have to re-read the entire thing. =)

While I am dubious about the new rules(for that 1 obvious reason), atleast they're totally acceptable and somewhat realistic to keep up with.
.....maybe I was expecting something better >.>

I don't really like the posting requirement rule. Sometimes there really is nothing for you to post about. I understand it but I don't think if you are sick you should have to make bullet posts to make up for that.
Other than that looks alright, even if I don't really like the 3 pages RP discussion needed, especially if it is a 1 on 1 rp, it can be rather difficult to get three pages of RP discussion.
