@flame
Feeling your pain here in CA.
And there are some things that can be done, but the effectiveness of it is varied....really varied. Some of it is just plain spreading awareness or writing your representatives (oh god...). There's also protesting but that might be difficult in your state. I also wonder exactly what realm of logic some of the people in power are using, same for the media that kisses up to them. It's frightening.

By necessity, extremists like Obama and the majority of Democrats in Congress don't use logic. Their feel-good ideals and touchy-feely goals inevitably fall to dust when exposed to logic and the real world, so they avoid both when at all possible. It's even arguable that they live entirely in their own world where such things actually work, since they always seem to claim improvement when things are still going downhill.

"Would it not be easier to dissolve the people and elect another in their place?"
This disgusts me Nin. It has been shown over and over and over and OVER... That the majority of the American people DO NOT want this. But we don't know what's good for us, do we? Now I'm FOR heath care reform. The system has short comings and that's putting it lightly. I'd like to see it fixed, but not like this. The majority in Congress, which refuses to recognize and ACT on the will of the people is an insult and a disgrace to democracy.
And I'll tell you this: If this passes and I'm required buy FEDERAL LAW to buy heath insurance that I don't need, can't afford, or simply don't want, and if they want to fine me, prosecute me, I'll refuse. I won't compromise my principles, and I'll gladly go to jail for it.

The thing is, Obama and the rest of these people are trying to pattern us after people in Europe. Now my father used to live in Italy (he's currently in Germany now, but I digress... for now). When I was there, I was a bit shocked by how different the culture was. Gun control was there and only the mob (mafia) had guns and the like. It was pretty bad.
Now, my father's in Germany and he says its worse there. Something like... 33% sales tax or something? I forget the exact number. He said it was insane how much sales tax was tacked on when he bought a cuckoo clock. He also says it's weird being able to go to a healthcare clinic and not have to really pay much for it, but he says with all that he pays in sales tax and income tax, he's paying more than he's receiving in these cheap/free clinics.
Obama claims he's for the people but... he's making things so much worse.
@ Zandyne: Yeah... I hear you. Same for my friend who lives in Virginia. I can't believe they actually went blue this election!

The Democrats really got undercut in the recent election last week, though. The people are speaking their minds on this.

Well given that the Reps were pretty much revealed who voted for what for this....event, I think the Democratic seats will be probably getting some housecleaning next election.
@flame The tax distributions are INSANE in Australia and they that health care thing (though the "rich" aren't eligible for it so it's not quite "universal"). But to illustrate how BAD the taxing is, basically someone who who works part time at Pizza Hut earns about much as a practicing Doctor.
