((No prob, Kogan. School's almost done with atleast, right? )) "There we go, now it sounds right." He said enthusiactically as he pulled out nine silver and placed it on the bar. "Forego the ale. I'm not much for that stuff. Now what direction might it happen to be from here?"

((Yeah, it's just about done, probably by next week. We're actually ahead of most of the other classes so god knows why they're trying to rush us through.))
Garon nodded and pocketed the coins. “The citadel's about half a days walk from here, just off the old road.” He fetched a key from the wall and handed it to the Illumian. “Though I wouldn't recommend going there alone, full of kobolds, goblins and even worse things, in fact, there's another guy, new in town I'd guess who was asking about the place just before you. I sent him to speak with Mrs Hucrele, she's looking for someone to go down into the citadel and look for her kids. If you hurry, you might be able to catch him. She lives just up the road, not far from here actually.”
The home of the Hucrele merchant family was more noticeable than the other cottages around it. About one and a half times the size of the others, it was plain to see they were better off than your typical villager. The large oak door opened as Samson knocked, a well dressed, middle aged woman standing there, an eyebrow arched in a mix of impatience and curiosity. “Yes?" she said sighing, "May I ask why you are here? I am quite busy at the moment.”

Samson bowed politely to the woman in greeting. "My name is Samson, ma'am, and I'm heading to the Citadel. I understand you are wanting someone to look for your children there, and I thought I should gather any details you might have so that I can help."

Ruthek took the key handed to him then processed the information he was just told. "Sounds like a fun time. Nearby too. Guess I shall be checking it out come morning or so, then." He began lightly tapping the key on the bar and looked back towards the entrance of the inn. "Nah, well, hmm. He'll be coming back here later won't he? No reason to chase him down then. If not, I'll probally just run into him tomorrow, or maybe his corpse. Well lets hope not the latter."

Keberii tiredly wiped the sweat beading together on her forehead as she listened to the rythmic patting of her axe bumping against her hip. She had been travelling all day in the wretched heat, and it was beginning to take a toll on the Tiefling. She sighed, and blearily looked around town. This... This would be the place, meaning that citadel is nearby... The young woman patted her forehead again. I should try to gather information, surely the townspeople know something of the place... stories about somewhere like that don't just disappear...
Keberii looked down at her pendant, eyeing it wearily. She had to admit, as of late, she was becoming mildly fond of it. Nonetheless...
And neither does the treasure... if anything could figure out how to get this troublesome trinket off, it'd be a dragon, and surely an old, red dragon would have knowledge as well as gold in its hoarde... It all seemed so simple to the Tiefling. All I need to do is find it... besides, I'd be doing the people here a favour, and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to accept the donation of a dragon's treasure...
Keberii then saw a warrior at one of the townspeople's homes. The paladin figured he was an adventurer of some sort, and surely he'd be looking for the Sunless Citadel if he had come out all this way too. May as well see if he knows anything... Keberii thought sollemnly, she was starting to long for the taste of a cold drink on her lips and she figured the warrior would probably be a better lead than just wandering about town. With that in mind, she began to approach the man.

The middle aged woman nodded slowly, watching Samson for any sign of deception. She'd given up hope that anyone would want to venture into that forsaken place. “Yes...my son Talgren and my daughter Sharwin went into the citadel about a month ago. They were part of a group with a ranger and a foreigner, a paladin I think.” She wiped away a tear, “I don't have much hope of them being alive, but if I could just get the bodies back, we can give them a proper burial.” She took off a gold ring on her finger and showed it to Samson. “They both have rings like this, with our family crest, If you could find them, or at least the rings, I'd be so grateful.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Garon shrugged his shoulders, “He'll probably be back, he did order a room. Take a seat, the broth will be another few minutes."

Samson was relieved when he saw the signet ring. He was worried he'd have to ask for a look at an oil painting, which really didn't seem like something anyone in this village could afford. He took a good look at the ring, committed the crest to memory and smiled reassuringly as he gave the woman a glad salute. "Ma'am, I'll find your children for you! You have the word of Samson upon that!"
It wasn't until he had bid the woman a good evening, she had returned to the insides of her house and he had turned away that he noticed the new arrival. It was only through practice that he didn't grin like a wolf right there. The young woman approaching him was hot like brimstone, and clearly tiefling. Those were always a fiery sort, extremely energetic. However, that fire could easily end up focused on him if he didn't play his cards right.
So it was that he gave her a warm, casual smile as he knocked some of his hair out of his face to better present himself, as opposed to the wolfish grin and howl he was tempted to do. "Well, hello," he greeted her. "If I were to judge by the axe on her hip, I'd say the lovely young lass before me was an adventurer, and if she's out this way, I'd guess she's on her way to the Citadel. I'm headed that way, myself, at first light. Now, usually, I'd make some corny line about offering to be an escort, but I'm guessing you know quite well how to bury that axe into a goblin's chest, so how about just to watch your back?"
Granted, in his mind's eye, he was picturing that back pretty clearly already.

Pallia never really liked the dawn or dusk. It was always such an inconvenient time... with the transition between normal vision and darkvision setting in ever so slowly... The half-drow noble fiddled with her sundark goggles. She could never tell if it was better to leave them on or take them off when this time of day set in... Closing her eyes and sighing in frustration, the young woman put the goggles in her pack with the rest of her belongings. Pallia frowned as she looked at her incredibly paltry coin bag. She had to get it filled up, and fast. But then, that WAS why she was here...
"As if I would stand a chance on my own..." The elven girl mused. The girl looked at the tavern before her. Her father had always told her that adventurers frequented these sorts of places. Pallia had to admit, she never expected that innocent little factoid would pay off for her later. "I'll probably get lynched or something as soon as I go in anyways..." The girl actually got a faint smile on her face, almost bemused by the concept. "Actually, that'd be kinda funny, from another perspective..." The girl then playfully mimiced the voices of disgruntled patrons. 'hey, there's a drow, get 'em lads!' boom! 'wow, that was quick, I thought dark elves could kill with a glare and disappear into the night like they were never there?' 'oy, she's just follin' ye, lad, playin' possum! aye, fetch the tar and feathers!' Oh boy I need company..." The noblewoman lamented, shaking her head at her rather bizarre imagination. "Hehe... it would be kinda funny to see me covered in feathers though...." The girl started to giggle uncontrollably as she opened the door to the tavern.

Keberii had to scoff quietly at that. She wasn't a fool, and she was sure that even if she didn't have the benefit of living from a man's point of view, she could pick up on the fighter's real intentions. "As tempting as that sounds, I'm worried that you might get a bit too distracted back there." She said, the faintest hints of a smile tugging at her lips. "Maybe I should be the one watching your back."
The tiefling suddenly paused. That came out wrong. That came out oh so very wrong. "Or... on second thought... maybe we should just head into the Citadel side by side and leave it at that..." She stammered out in embarassment.

But Samson just gave her a bright smile and bowed. "M'lady, I may possess a fancying eye, but I assure you, I am fully a gentleman. I'll not push any matter that you deem inappropriate." As he came out of the bow, he offered her his hand. "Samson Aurturius, delighted to be at your service."
As he awaited her reply, he thumbed back toward the tavern. "I'm staying at the local inn for the evening, and dinner awaits. Would you care to join me?"

"Is that so?" Keberii asked, giving the human an amiable smile and accepting his hand. "I am Si- excuse me, Lady Keberii Veximitron, Paladin of Torm. And I have to say I don't think I've ever been able to turn down such generous offers like the one you're presenting now."
And he hasn't even taken note of my race, either... The tiefling couldn't help but note. I'm sure he just doesn't know what I am, is all.
Keberii cheerfully stretched her back, moaning a little as she felt stiff joints get some much desired exercise. "Well, I'm sure that this warm meal of yours is getting cold as we speak, so perhaps we should make way?"

He couldn't bring himself to look away as she stretched even after she announced her occupation and he patiently guided her back to the tavern. "Indeed? A Paladin of Torm? An interesting occupation choice. You must have overcome a lot of hurdles to get there." Samson even got the door for her as they reached the tavern.

The inn went silent as the drow stepped through the doors, many of the patrons giving her a suspicious look. Many had heard the tales of surface drow turning away from evil, but there were many more about the depraved evil of their culture. Garon set down the glass and approached the back, eying the elven woman as if trying to read her. She had the dusky skin of a drow, and was clearly elven in nature, he thought, but her ears weren't as sharp, her face was softer and she stood a little taller than most drow.
“Rather late for a young lady like yourself to be out alone isn't it?” He raised an eyebrow and reached for a glass, “So what can I get for you m'lady?”

"It's not at all that hard." Keberii was lying, even getting considered to be trained to be a paladin when you were a tiefling was an unforgiving, uphill battle. The young woman briefly revisited vivid memories of the ordeal, noting how everything was made that much harder for her, as if the additional blood, sweat and tears would purge the fiendish bloodline within her. But then, Keberii shaked her head. "Becoming a paladin is a trial, yes. But when your first feel your connection with your god, when you look at people's smiling faces as you walk by, knowing that you've been given the power to, at the very least, make their day just a little bit brighter..." The tiefling gave Samson a peaceful, carefree smile. "The feeling you get when you realise your purpose in life is to make the world a better place... that feeling is a reward so great that I would gladly go through those trials a hundred times over if that is what it would take."

Samson smiled back and nodded. Yup, she was a paladin, alright. No doubt about that. He asked a passing barmaid to get her a broth, bread and ale like he had gotten and sent the silver for it with her before getting the chair for Kerebii. "I have a lot of respect for people who can take that perspective on life. It takes a lot of dedication. Me, sure, it's important to help others and to stand up against what they can't, but I have to admit, the challenge and glory are my prime motivators for the job."
After she was seated, he moved over to his own chair and sat. "I'm probably what you'd think poorly of as a thrill-seeker. I go where the battle is, where the danger is. At the same time, this means that I'm also where I'm needed to use my abilities to help others, but the difference is perspective. You follow the needy and find the adventure. I follow the adventure and find the needy."
