Name: Abigaile "Abby" Tohru
Age: Looks about late teens or early twenties. She's actually 43.
Gender: Female
Race: Demon - Nekomata
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Power Level: Mid-tier High (8)
Timeline: Modern
Appearance:
(No tail)
Personality: Energetic, cheerful and confident. She's definitely not the once self-conscious girl that shied away from people who might mock her for her cat-like traits.
History: In Junior High, she was a track star, holding several school records in events like cross-country, dash and the mile. She was hoping to continue with what she loved into high school, but the summer after her 8th Grade year, she was jumped by several men, and what followed would change her life forever.
She tried to fight them off of her with everything she had, but they outnumbered her and were older and stronger than her. When she thought she was broken, however, she rebelled against her own body. It refused to go any further, but she refused to let it stop. In that moment, when her will to fight back overpowered her body’s inability to respond, something in her subconscious split. She swore she was the one moving as she jumped up, lunged at her attackers as they suddenly looked terrified, and tore at their throats. She swore she was doing it as she ripped flesh from their chests and kicked them away to send them spiraling to the ground before they ran off.
But when she looked back, she was still laying on the ground, doubled over a tipped trash can.
It was difficult for her to recall what transpired after that, and the only thing she really could recall was waking up in the hospital. Her parents were looking down at her with worry in their eyes, but only for a moment. She only saw it for an instant before another expression registered on their faces, and it was the same one her attackers had before they fled. Her father swore and her mother gasped, but when she asked what it was, they refused to tell her, insisting that she rest. They told her she just had one monstrous black eye, and they hadn’t noticed until she opened it. But she felt fine ... Exhausted, like she had just crammed five major finals into one day, but fine, not like she had been ganged up on and beaten ...
They had lied about the black eye, of course. Generally speaking, Abby lost thirty percent of her body mass, shrunk six inches and lost nearly fourty-five pounds. But this didn’t confuse her parents and doctors as much as a few other things. Her features had changed, becoming more catlike. Her human ears had been replaced with those of a cat and her eyes had taken on similar characteristics. It wasn’t until she found out what had happened to her that she understoood it wasn’t a cat, specifically, but her Nekomata. Abigaile was a Persona User, a human with the capacity to manifest a facet of their personality into a palpable, supernatural form, but unlike a normal Persona User, where the human and the Persona were more or less seperate, she had “screwed up” in the summoning, and Nekomata consumed her. Where the two-tailed catgirl ghost had once been a facet of her personality, it now might as well have been her, entirely.
This had made her feel like a freak and she became withdrawn, dropping out of her plans to enter track and field her Freshman year, and in truth, she didn't want to go back at all. But then she received a letter from a special school, and her life took yet another turn. It was secretly a school for training Persona Users, and she learned much there, including how to be more comfortable with her new appearance. It was there that she met another Persona User named Kaizen, and she fell in love with him. He was cold, but she saw something else through it. It wasn't until sometime later that she discovered his real identity was that of a soldier named Tadashi from the demon realm who had been stuck in the human realm.
She studied and searched, eventually finding a way to separate him from the mortal coil he was bound to and open a portal back to his realm. She went with him when he passed through, and once there, he gave her what he called a Hell Fruit, which, if eaten by a human, would remove their mortal limits, essentially turning them into a demon (as demons looked human, unless they were Unpure). If eaten by a demon, however, it would mutate them into animalistic beasts driven only by violent instinct.
The fruit consumed, she followed him on to the sole city in the surrounding wilderness, a nation unto itself, Inner Heaven. Crowned by its own Academy, a parallel to Shiro Academic, the school she had attended on Earth, it was the major destination of many. Those that sought entry formed a ramshackle town of constantly-shifting citizens that came to be called Outer City, as it encircled the actual city of Inner Heaven. To gain access to the city and be able to follow Tadashi onwards, she would need to find a way to meet the incredibly high standards of the Academy.
She found a tutor, a mentor and a parental figure in Michelle Fae'on, a Nekomata who had retired from the Inner Heaven Military, or so it said on paper. In truth, she was Captain of the Tenth, a pseudo-division within the military that served as the secret ops specialists.
The woman taught Abigaile extensively, constantly grilling and testing her. Though she originally only promised to get the girl into the Academy, she continued to train her afterwards, forcing the child to constantly push herself so that it was impossible for her to fall behind. When Abby graduated extremely early as a result, Michelle revealed to her the true position she held and extended an invitation to the persona user to also join the Tenth.
In addition to this, Abigaile was also recruited by the Third Division, that in charge of medical matters, and her natural talents pushed her quickly up the ranks, until she was First Lieutenant of the Third Division. But before she had reached it, Tadashi had disappeared. Unable to abandon her new responsibilities to search for him, she had to bide her time until an opportunity came up.
Time traveled faster in Inner Heaven than on Earth, seven times faster to be precise. So it was that she spent nearly thirty years, her now-demon body causing her to age imperceptibly slow. She wouldn't have looked older at all if it hadn't been for an unfortunate encounter with a hell fruit core that had, for a time, left her to resemble a three-year-old. She sought the aid of a professional body shaper to reform her body so she wouldn't spend the next several centuries in a high chair, and he made several visual improvements, as well, so that her body resembled more a supermodel's than the short little one she had as a result of her screwed-up manifestation.
Finally, Imoen, a Captain of another division, came to her to request that she return to the Human World to search for Tadashi. She gave her an old sword of his, fearing the worst and thinking he might require the blade, and had her outfitted in any way she could before sending her off. Now, Abigaile scours the Human World she once called home in her search for the one she once called beloved.
Powers:
Wind Magic - Abby is naturally extremely adept at wind magic, able to send slicing gusts or turbulent vortexes at her adversaries.
Almighty Magic - Abby is naturally adept at Almighty magic, a neutral-element magic that ignores elemental resistances, though not to the level of her Wind Magic.
Recovery Magic - Abby is naturally talented at using her innate magical energies to mend the wounds of others, almost to the point of regenerating entire limbs, but not quite.
Claws - While not visibly present all the time, Abby can do a partial manifestation to give herself razor-sharp cat-like claws.
Flash Step - To those who don't know the technique, this movement seems to be instantaneous, though it's actually just crazy fast. To those who know the technique and at least close to the user's proficiency can follow the movement. This takes magical energy to maintain, so while it can be used to fight at extreme speeds, if the user can't wrap it up before their limit is reached, they'll drain themselves entirely.
Substitution - Abby can perform a ninja substitution, making a double of herself when under attack to allow herself to escape quickly. She can also charge the double with offensive energy so that it detonates on contact.
Demonic Body - Abby isn't human. She was once, but hasn't been for some time. As a result, her body functions at a higher level than that of a human, allowing her to be faster, stronger and tougher than many would suspect of her form.
Equipment:
Tadashi's Blade - A very long sword of an odd design given to her by a Captain of Inner Heaven to stay in her care until it can be returned to its original master.
Kunai - She keeps a stash of kunai in the holster on her left hip. They're just normal kunai.
Weakness: Her build is small and light, so she gets sent flying pretty easily when she gets hit.
Age: Looks about late teens or early twenties. She's actually 43.
