The Crew of the Byzantine
(GB, please don't add these to the character registry. This is just to get them up until I have time to give them individual profiles.)
Name: Corellius (Cory) Byzantine
Appearance: Normally, he's a man in his late twenties with a good, if not huge, build, dressed in a short-sleeved tunic, leather slacks and a long sash holding a scimitar on his left side. If the weather's bad, he wears a thick, brown oiled captain's coat. If he doesn't check in with Anna to get the spell refreshed regularly, however, this will quickly fade, leaving a young boy so petite, no one would be able to tell him apart from a girl of the same age.
Personality: Extremely self-sacrificing and brave, never hesitating to leap into the fray, particularly when someone is in danger. He thinks quickly on his feet and once he chooses a path, he does his best to see it through to its end.
Bio: The captain of the Byzantine, he found the cross-dimensional airship in an underground cavern with notes suggesting it was built by his great, great grandfather, who was thought to be a scientific genius, but mentally insane. It was through tales told to him by his grandfather that he discovered the chamber and figured out how to activate it. With his younger sister, 17 herself, and their dog, Pedro, as his only “crew,” he set off for the unknown, his heart longing for adventure. Since then, he has acquired the rest of his odd, almost monstrous crew, as well as his outfit. Though from modern times, his clothes, unfit for the rigors of sailing, swashbuckling and adventure, soon needed replacements, and at the insistence of the daughter of a pirate captain he encountered, took on the outfit “proper for a ship's captain” that she made for him. Though she originally intended to travel with him, an injury to her father made her feel she was needed more there, but she hoped that, through the clothes she made him, she would be with him in spirit if nothing else.
Name: Baelon (No last name, or at least none he has told anyone.)
Appearance: A large, imposing man of apparently African lineage, his muscular build belies the speed with which he can move when necessary. While he was originally clothed in the tribal wear of his land, he has since donned black leather slacks and a black, long-sleeved tunic at the insistence of the rest of the crew, who had grown tired of constantly turning around and seeing him half nude. His large, straight blade that he calls a Batanto (pronounced Ba-Tan-Toe) is always strapped to his back by a leather harness across his chest and he has taken easily to the antique-looking pistols he wears on either side in shoulder holsters.
Personality: Generally seems to have as little a personality as possible. He is loyal to the ship and its captain, but is not remotely social. He speaks excellent English as well as an unknown number of other languages, but typically only answers people in a few terse syllables. He can evaluate a battlefield with incredible efficiency and when he enters it, he becomes a veritable force to be reckoned with. His concepts of battle tactics and field medicine makes him the one you want in front when the battle can shift as quickly as it does when it spans multiple worlds.
Bio: A tribal warrior exiled for crimes he didn't commit, it wasn't until Cory found out for himself that Baelon confided that he was actually the chief's son, but due to a coup, he was framed and exiled to allow the betrayer to take over. The crew was able to overthrow the betrayer, but Baelon claimed that the tribe had lost all faith in the chieftain family line and allowed the council to elect a new chieftain. While he was nominated for the position, an elder with more experience was ultimately selected. Declaring it a wise decision and giving the new chief his blessing, he then requested permission to depart with the crew of the Byzantine, believing journeying with them would make him wiser and stronger, so that when the time did come for him to return, he would be ready to take up the mantle of his murdered father. Since then, he has become the ship's weapon master and chief gunner.
Name: Anna Bealvine
Appearance: A lovely young woman looking to be in her mid twenties, though she swears it has nothing to do with her magicks. She wears a mage's traveling robe that allows easy movement and isn't as big and flowing as a standard robe. Its sleeves are fitted and everything is secured with sashes or bangles, making sure that even in a windtorn environment, it remains in place and out of the way. Full slits up the sides both show off her legs and allow optimum movement without hindrance. Its hood is attached and has strings that can draw it tight. She raises it when the weather is bad or she has some other reason to cover her head and part of the view of her face, but otherwise leaves it down.
Personality: She is a proud woman who believes in herself and her magic. While often with the attitude of a rich, pampered brat, she's actually very dedicated and caring and worries about Cory if he's gone for too long.
Bio: Anna is an experienced mage of no small merit specializing in alteration and illusion magic. She originally came into the picture to help Cory with the problems resulting from having both Jeff and Aduntine on his crew and, for a “small” fee of 100,000 pieces, joined on to travel with them to continue her administrations. She later slipped the fee back into the crew's supply room where their finances were stored believing she was doing so unnoticed. The captain, who happened to be having a rough night sleeping, however, saw it, though in respect of her dignity, he never said anything about it.
Name: Allie
Appearance: A young nurse dressed as if from the 1950s. Her natural appearance is zombie-like with the face nearly rotten to the bone and her skin green and sloughing off where exposed. With regular administrations from Jeff, however, she can keep up the appearance of a normal, if very pale and cold, human woman.
Personality: Very caring and doting when it comes to patients, and she runs the medical portion of the ship with a very controlling and insistent manner. If she wants/needs something for it, Cory never dares tell her no, for fear of risking her wrath, however sweetly she may ask for it. She is always hungry, however, and if she has to do anything in close, she has something of a tendency to drool. Jeff keeps a very fresh supply of meat to keep her capable of functioning normally.
Bio: Allie is, as she naturally appears, a real-unlife flesh-eating zombie. When Cory first found her, she was mindless and crazed with hunger, attacking any living people (namely, Cory and his crew, then just himself, his sister and Baelon) on sight. Once he found a way to appease her hunger that didn't involve Byzantine au Naturale, she was able to settle down and, bit by bit, recover her sanity, though not her entire memory. She remembered enough to function as a very experienced medic, however, and joined the crew as such as thanks and in exchange for additional food.
Name: Jeff
Appearance: A large (about four feet tall) slug with one eyestalk and many tentacles for feet, so that he moves much like a floor-waxing machine rather than a regular slug. He is solid brown all over and has worn an apron ever since joining the crew.
Personality: A cowardly being who quickly runs and hides at the first sign of conflict, but generally carries himself (falsely) as if he were anything but. His high voice and educated speech patterns doesn't help his appearance as something of a nerd, and in any situation where he isn't able to hide and strike in ambush, any intimidation factor he possesses, even as a monster, is quickly lost. Almost any part of his body, but most notably his tentacles and mouth, can stretch out to quite remarkable lengths without danger of breaking.
Bio: Originally only hiding in trash piles and the like looking to ambush prey, that all changed the day he caught Cory's sister. His bite, feeding not off the flesh but off the age of the victim, had already regressed her a couple years before Cory could arrive. Declaring that the last thing he wanted to do was to be changing his sister's diapers, he bid the creature (of which he could only see the tentacles and mouth) let her go and feed off of him to soothe its hunger, as adventure and worry had aged him somewhat prematurely. Finding the taste of such early age exotic, Jeff soon built up the courage to emerge. After getting to know the captain (and gaining several reassurances that he would not be summarily diced into a countless number of bite-sized pieces), he agreed to join the crew, confessing to be quite the talented chef. Able to get regular feedings now, especially since Aduntine joined, he happily goes about the ship's kitchen, preparing food for the rest of the crew with talent rivaling any gourmet. While he often feeds off of Allie to keep her looking presentable, he and Aduntine (with the captain's permission) often join to mutually suck off of Corellius. He once suggested that he wouldn't mind finding out how Baelon tasted, but one glare from the weapon master quickly squelched that thought.
Name: Aduntine
Appearance: An impossibly beautiful demon woman of oriental descent, she keeps her hair up in some seemingly impossible styles and is always dressed in the multiple layers of a high class kimono. When she gets upset, she sprouts fangs, her nails extend like claws and her eyes go red and slitted. These return to normal when she calms back down, sometimes an event that can come and go as quickly as the wind.
Personality: Often shifting radically between flirty and sunny and vicious and angry, she is often feared as a loose cannon. She often treats others, regardless of gender, with a combination of motherly doting and sensual passion that often leaves the rest of the crew flustered and confused by all of the mixed messages in her wake. Some, like Anna, believe she does it intentionally to cause that effect, while others, like Baelon, simply couldn't care less and ignore her. She is in a romantic relationship with Jeff, probably due to their opposite feeding styles, which allows them a virtually indefinite feeding from a single source, particularly when doing so simultaneously.
Bio: Said to be the demonic manifestation of a vengeful woman's spirit that was wronged by over 100 men before she died, Aduntine fed off of both the youth and the masculinity of any men she could lure to her for as many years. Equally, she would feed off of the youth and beauty of any women, but men were by far her favored prey. If any were to ask her, she would say that she loved her men, and indeed, the way she conducts herself suggests that she played the role of equal parts succubus and life leech, even if the former wasn't actually part of her capabilities. She actually insisted on joining the crew soon after meeting them and didn't actually give anyone a choice in the matter, but keeping herself satiated (primarily on the captain in conjunction with the feeding from Jeff, resulting in Cory's problematic state), her powers as a mage specializing in destructive magic has made sure she is anything but dead weight. She often belittles Anna, a human and the only other mage on the ship, and in turn, the girl finds the demon's presence all but unbearable.
Name: Melony Byzantine
Appearance: A fourteen or fifteen year old girl with soft blonde locks and an adorable face, she wears a simple blouse and ankle-length skirt. She is an expert at puppy dog eyes (which was how she got Cory to bring her in the first place) and practices dance.
Personality: Ever cheerful, energetic and ready to help, she has no solid position on the crew, other than being definitely not suited for combat, but is often seen helping whoever needs it, sometimes in the kitchen with Jeff, in the medical bay with Allie or just doing seamstress work mending the clothes of the various crew members. Her steady hand and skill with a needle has also seen her stitching up more than a few cuts and gashes.
Bio: Corellius' sister. While originally seventeen and nearly an adult, her encounter with Jeff left her regressed physically. She's gotten over it, however, and has even forgiven the cowardly slug.
