So does any one here like the epic Harry Potter series???
Has anyone finished the Deathly Hallows?

I wouldn't call it an epic. It's hardly something that will go down in the annals of history as a literary classic. In a decade, it'll be all but forgotten, like The Unbeliever.

Finished it the day after it'll come out.
I doubt this will be forgotten. Harry Potter seems compareable to a star wars level of fandom.

Star Wars? Eh, I dunno. I've yet to see any Wizard Conventions. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the books and they're a great series. I just don't know that they're "epic" material.

Sorry, SoM... I'll have to say that her last two books were kinda lacking. I mean, the last two books felt like it was forced.
It was like, "OMG, HARRY HAS A SUDDEN CRUSH!"
And that's just the beginning. The final book, sorry to say, felt a bit like a somewhat well-written fanfic. Yes, it was a good series. I loved it... I just don't see it as popular in epic proportions.
It won't be forgotten, but... eh, dunno.

*sighs* I love Harry Potter. Not the way that I love Lord of the Rings. But I do love it in the way that one loves childhood toys. You know you're too old to believe that Shakes-bear really talks, but you don't want to stop. I want to believe that Harry Potter was awesome. I want to believe that I'll read them all again. I want to believe that I want another book. ... Somehow, I just can't.
Do I regret the hours I spent reading? No. Would I recommend them to others? Yes. Would I do it all again? No way.

Well, from my opinion of the 7th book, it was a little graar. Like she wanted to make everything so final there COULDN'T be another book. And I found the ending to actually end up character shieldy, especially considering how decimated the rest of the cast was.

the seventh book started off poorly but the climax was amazing. Neville killed the snake WITH A FUCKING SWORD.
That made the whole series worth it.
I would read them all again, I dont find them too childish... they're simpler than some books, but that doesnt necessarily make it a bad thing, and the child like sense of wonder they give you is all to sweet to pass a second helping of.
As to their being no Wizard conventions, keep in mind the books are still fairly new. Star wars didnt have a storm trooper brigade 10 years after it came out, or even that many costuming people, but potter certinally does.

Eh, it just doesn't seem the stuff of epic proportions to me. Yeah, it's good, but not epic, that's my opinion. I likely wouldn't read it again, but there's only been one book in the world I've ever really wanted to read over and over, Arrow to the Sun.

www.newsweek.com/id/50787 And somewhere else says she's coming to New York? That's something worth possibly checking out. Damn, I may just have to see if I can get in, lol... That's an interesting background to the characters. Makes me wish that she fleshed out the last chapter a bit more. It seemed... too rushed, IMO.

There was some good parts in the final two books, but it was mostly unepic. Dumbledore dying, Hedwig Dying, Lupin and Madeye dying... ehh after a while I was like "Okay, there dead. Finish the damn book and kill harry.." then she does kill harry, and brings him back to life to live with ginny, which is a bad way to incorperate two of three possible endings for any story endings...

I gotta be honest, for all the negative responses, the ending wasn't as bad as I expected. I didn't think there was a great deal of character protection, and for those that think Harry should have died, you need to do more reading. The main character never dies. Otherwise, the story would be awfully short.
I thought it was well-written. Epic? No, sorry, still can't say that.

I don't argue with you Ninmast, except, if you read the Bartimaus triligy, for instance, the main character Mandrake, dies. Well... There are three main characters, told form first person and third perosn. Kitty, Mandrake, and Bartimaus. Bartimaus and Kitty live, Mandrake commits kamikaze to save Kitty and the other people of London, but mainly Kitty.
