Name: Brad Mayson
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Alignment: Lawful Good
Power Level: Low-tier Medium (4)
Timeline: Modern
Appearance:
Normal
He has an excellent build with solidly defined muscles, but not a bodybuilder, more like someone who is very active. There's nothing particularly spectacular about his brown hair and his blue eyes are just normal blue eyes. He commonly wears jeans, a t-shirt and a hooded jacket. He has a metal neck choker, metal bracelets, a metal belt and metal anklets. They're all strangely thick and wide. His hood usually hides the way the back of the neck choker spreads up over the back of his head like part of a helmet.
Transformed
His head is clad in a full helmet with a slanted, arrow-like visor and his entire front face is otherwise clad, save for a jointed space for his mouth, which is sealed over separately. His upper body sports titanium pauldrons on his shoulders, kevlar/titanium armor on his chest area, and jointed titanium on his arms and gloves over a flexible layer of spandex. His lower body is clad in a similar fashion with thicker titanium boots and knee guards. Spring-loaded katar blades can extend from dispensers on his wrists and solar panels protected by bullet-proof glass are in exposed spots over his body, most notably his forearms, his upper arms and his back, where they're likely to get the most light. The overall color scheme is primarily blue (kevlar, spandex and helmet) with the silver chrome of the titanium.
Personality: Brad is a very casual person. He dislikes stiff-necked affairs and prefers to deal with people one-on-one than through bureaucratic run-arounds. He's also anti-conflict and wishes to avoid fighting when at all possible. He refuses to make weapons for others, lest they be misused, unless he trusts them indefinitely.
History: Once upon a time, Brad designed web pages for a living. Sure, he did other stuff, dabbled in this and that, but that's what he did. He was good at it, too, and made enough to feed himself and pay for his little apartment with little effort. He was content.
Then one day, for unknown reasons, a portal opened in his closet, and he found it led to another place and time: Macedon, Greece, 339 B.C.
There, Alexander III of Macedon, three years before he would inherit his father's empire and begin his own conquest, was receiving a premature exposure to war against Persians who were armed by a force from the future a bit at a time.
A seeress named Cassandra (not the one who saw but no one would believe) was waiting for Brad as he stepped out of the portal. She had not been the cause, but she had foreseen his arrival, and promptly brought him to Alexander.
Upon discovering his visitor's origins to be the same as those supplying his enemy, Alexander pleaded with him for defensive measures against these forces, and Brad obliged. He designed a better portcullis system and brought Alexander his own designs for torsion bastillas, which he otherwise would not have developed until his own military march. Because of his aversion to creating weapons of war and a fear of terribly disrupting the timeline, however, Brad refused to provide anything for weapons unreasonably beyond their time and, when at all possible, refused to do anything but design defensive systems.
It wasn't until one time, after returning to his own time after carelessly mentioning guns to Alexander while voicing his own thoughts, that Cassandra informed him upon his return that Alexander would plan to threaten to kill him the next time he went in hopes of gaining firearm technology.1 Initially, at this news of an imminent betrayal, Brad thought to bring a gun with him and show him first-hand how deadly it could be, but soon calmed down and thought that actually bringing a gun would be counterproductive, and he went to work on something else - the first version of his suit.
What arrived in Macedon was little more than a kevlar/titanium suit of body armor, a testament to Brad's belief of walls over weapons, and when Alexander ordered his men to strike, their blades proved utterly impotent against the defense meant for high-grade firearms. He then displayed his flexibility by grabbing the swords by the blades and kicking the two soldiers in the heads, a feat impossible in traditional armor. The two Grecian warriors disarmed and proven useless, he began to make his point to the future emperor, but they were interrupted by news of an attack by the Persians.
Brad, in his body armor, joined in the battle, rushing ahead of the main forces as the Persian blades proved equally impotent ... until they stopped using them. They brought out one of the toys their benefactors had sold them for silk and silver: A gatling cannon designed to fire bolts in lieu of a steady supply of gunpowder. His armor held, but barely, and he was able to destroy the weapon before it could lay waste to the Macedonian forces.
At this assumedly minor example of imported weapons, Brad came to the conclusion that just body armor wouldn't be enough to keep him alive if this escalated, as it likely would at his appearance, as the Persians were already talking about a warrior god invulnerable to their weapons. Fearing for the safety of himself and his Macedonian allies, Brad returned to his own time to redesign it into something more formidable. He added hydraulic mini-lifts to augment his strength, expandable skates and aero thrusters for increased movement, reinforced solar panels to power it in an era without electricity, spring-loaded katar blades and, as an afterthought, an energy discharge system for offensive capabilities. Later, a recognition for the need of concealment led him to modularize the various sections of the armor into key sections so that it could expand upon command ("Soldier One, Gear Up!"), allowing him to have it ready at all times without overly preventing him from blending in.
These upgrades would prove vital, as it wouldn't be long before the conflict 24 centuries ago in Macedon would spill over into his own world as the organizations supplying the Persians sought the one disrupting their plans ...
Powers: All of his powers come from his power suit. He has none of his own.
Equipment: Incredibly crude by Sentai standards, the Soldier Power Armor is the core of Brad's combat abilities, but it has little to offer in terms of flair and sparkle. Listed below are its features.
Voice Imprint Protocols - The Soldier Power Armor responds only to its user's voice in predetermined, preprogrammed command lines. This security feature has a major drawback, however: The user must announce his actions in advance, ruining the element of surprise if the opponent knows what the function does.
Hydraulic Mini-Lifts - This crude system of hydraulics and tubes is built into the interior of the suit, responding to motion by the user to augment physical strength. With it, a man of average strength can throw another man fifty feet without difficulty, but less brutish actions require a great deal of care not to overdo it, making control an issue.
Spring-Loaded Katars - The single least problematic system of the entire suit, these are simply razor-sharp stainless steel/carbon katar blades that spring into a lock-in position for ready combat. They are activated by a button at the base of the palm, making accidental activation unlikely, but possible.
Solar Panel Array - Located in positions most likely to catch sunlight, they are constructed out of as durable materials as possible and protected by the highest-quality bulletproof glass and polymers. They power all systems in the suit. If for whatever reason they are offline, the internal battery (which can be recharged by the array) can power basic functions for up to twelve hours. Advanced functions such as Electric Grip and Aero Thrusters lower this according to how often they're used, while the suit's finale, Final Vent, drains it entirely and immediately.
Accelerated Movement System - Essentially, a pair of roller blades backed by the Aero Thrusters located on his shoulders, hips and ankles, this virtually barbaric system is a poor substitute for increased agility, making maneuverability on slick surfaces extremely vulnerable and quick turns dangerous to attempt without practice and experience. The roller blades fold out from the base of his boots (he got the idea from Wheelies) and lock into place, while the Aero Thrusters activate based on the movement of the user.
Electric Grip - The gloves of the Soldier Power Armor contain diodes for discharging electrical charges. With proper use, this allows the user to electrocute his enemies by grabbing them, but it can be a severe drain on the internal battery, and isn't really power-efficient.
Final Vent - Soldier 01's ultimate attack, performed by channeling all of the internal battery's stored solar energy into a ball lightning formed from the diodes on the gloves, then fired at the opponent. This is potentially a Power Level 6 blast, assuming the battery is at full power, but completely drains the battery, and all systems are shut down for sixty seconds until the solar panels gather enough energy to restore basic function. It takes another 120 seconds to restore power to advanced systems and six hours of non-use to fully restore the battery and enable another use of the vent.
Weakness: He's just a normal human without his power suit, and even with it, if he expends its power supply, all he has is his own abilities and defense. Also, unlike typical sentai, his suit is not air-tight.
