Name: Richard Montgomery
Age: 48 looks 18 he doesn't age
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Alignment: chaotic good
Power Level: 8
Timeline: Modern
Appearance: Richard is a rather tall man standing at about 6 foot 1 and his skin is slightly silver in color. He is thin but not bony or emaciated. His hair is also silver in color, as are his eyes. The color is a product of his ties with the Dread Lord, Viscirus. The corrupted power changed his physical appearance staining his skin hair and eyes. As an added product of the union of the powers he also has subconscious tendencies, He always wears silver or white clothing and it mainly covers his entire body. His skin also sunburns easily
Personality: Richard is rather obsessive about things he likes or wants. His obsessive nature can get him into trouble at times. He also does not always think everything through and has an overdeveloped sense of pride. He has a particular dislike of machines as they possess no life and give him a sense of unease when he needs to entrust himself to them. This can go so far as to inconvenience him in his daily life.
He has a fundamentally good personality with enabled him to win out against the corrupting influence of a dreadlord. He may not be perfect and sometimes his actions while mostly good are not the best but those who know him agree that he always tries to do his best by those he knows. He also is known to have issues with people who are neat freaks or waste nothing. Richard does possess a natural dislike of true order and he chafes under direct authority. He honestly wishes he had never been granted these powers and that he had never mad the deal, but none the less he isn't going to allow himself to submit to death, after all the drive of the Dread Lords to survive is timeless and it is a trait that cannot be quelled.
History:
Nearly 30 years ago one of the Dread lords, the Dread lord Viscirus, reached the end of its long, long, existence. The Dreadlords live for countless eons but even they eventually slide down to join the entropy of the rest of the void in which they dwell, the energy of countless life-streams was no longer enough to sustain existence. For the Dread the process of death is a slow time and the last stages of death from old age to them can equate to years and years of human existence.
Viscirus reached out across space and time to earth, seeking a vessel a being that could keep his dying power and insure him a sort of continued immortality. He found a person on earth whose body and being like Viscirus was falling apart slowly but surely. His mind had located Richard. The Dreadlord had located someone who was similar enough in state that he could make a deal, and ensure a sort of immortality through passing on his powers.
Richard had been an almost normal teenager up until half a year before then, when he began to have headaches that throbbed all through his head. His doctor told him that he simply had migraines and that they would pass in time. He listened; after all he was a young man with his whole life ahead of him. For a few months he took the pain pills the doctor had prescribed and sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't though. He simply dealt with them believing that like the doctor said, they would go away in time. Then though things began to get worse, the left side of his body began to stop working properly and one day he woke up to find his whole left side frozen in rictus.
He was taken to the hospital that time and this time looked over by competent doctors. They ran the tests and came back with the sad and sorry truth, the findings indicated the Richard had inoperable cancer in the brain and subsequent testing would indicate that the cancer had spread to most of the parts of his body. His parents were notably devastated that their only child was dying and they found a way to pay for the newest treatment methods.
Unfortunately the treatment methods including chemotherapy and radiation were all unsuccessful. Richard was sent home as it was expected that he would soon die and there was no point to keeping him in the hospital. Perhaps it was something about the cancer, or perhaps something of his mind, or possibly a combination of both factors, but what exactly drew Viscirus' attention is uncertain.
One day much like the previous pain filled days Richard was simply lying in his bed, in a drug enduced haze. He was unable to concentrate well and thought he must have drifted off to sleep when a voice spoke to him. A voice that seemed to speak directly into his mind a voice that made him an offer, "I can take it all away, all the pain and suffering, I can take it away and give you so much, all you have to do is give your consent." Richard was notably surprised but in his drugged and fevered daze he was willing to humor what he thought was a dream and he said yes.
The room had been empty of people during that time and so what occurred next went unwitnessed by any save Richard and Viscirus. The room was for a brief moment filled with bright silver light. Then the light faded and Richard was alone and healthy feeling for the first time in months, and feeling better than he ever had in his life. It was chalked up to divine intervention and while that wasn't quite right it was close enough.
He returned to his normal life with his mother and father and while it wasn't immediately apparent he had been changed in more ways than simply being healed. He had been given the latent power of a dreadlord, and while he didn't know it he would never age another day, though his hair would still grow back.
He began to hear the voice again, in a constant litany of instructions and Viscirus took to calling Richard his son. The first time Richard heard Viscirus again he was surprised and doubly so when the voice appeared out of thin air calling him, its son. He reacted with confusion, and Viscirus simply continued on with instructions of how to use the powers and what they did. Richard was more than a little disturbed by what Viscirus was saying and he decided that he would just ignore the disturbing voice.
For a little longer things seemed normal aside from the voice in the background, but he noticed things beginning to happen around him, plants and animals seemed to sicken and die when he was around. He continued to attempt to ignore the voice, and it took the death of his parents to bring him to see reason. His parents had like the plants been slowly sickening but he had refused to let himself believe it. One night he went to sleep and when he awoke he found them dead.
He tried to kill himself, believing himself responsible only to find that his body healed itself from the wound he tried to inflict. He tried again, slicing himself open until he in the end lost consciousness and collapsed. He woke finding that he had healed again. The voice in his mind rose in power and for the first time since the rather disastrous conversation Richard acknowledged the voice. And with his acknowledgment the dreadlord began to teach Richard how to use the powers he had been granted.
At first it was only little things like how to view the lifestreams and how to control how much he fed on particular beings, but as time passed Viscirus explained more and more of the power of the dread to Richard. Once the powers were turned on they would not fade and with continued instruction Richard slowly grew into the Inheritance that had been thrust upon him, but with the powers came the hunger to feed, to strip the life from everything he could.
He fought the hunger in a constant struggle until at last Viscirus sank down and joined the entropy of the rest of the void. With Viscirus demise the powers were no longer tied to Viscirus and instead were tied to him, the hunger still existed but now it was manageable, he had weathered the storm and was free to choose his own destiny upon earth.
Powers:
The Void blades- He has the capability to summon twin blades made from the fabric of the void, home of the dreadlords. These blades are monomolecular and so extremely sharp, they are also more fragile than a normal blade though and have a chance of shattering if hit from the side. However they can often sheer through almost anything that they hit head on.
Super human speed- Rather self explanatory, he is capable of moving far far faster than a normal human. While being trained by Viscirus it became apparent that the full potential speed of a Dreadlord in the void was greater than even the enhanced/corrupted body Richard had been granted. He can move at 7/10 of the speed of light when pushing his altered body to the limit.
Super Human resilience- His physical strength may not be much higher than a normal human, that hasn't changed, but his being corrupted by Viscirus has given him a resilience to physical assault and his skin is impact resistant. He is significantly harder to severely injure than a normal person. He also has a significant resistance to life energy as it is in his corrupted nature to draw on life and feed on the streams.[/ul]
Specific abilities relating to the life streams
Life Stream vision- A subconscious power that he cannot turn off. Richard can see the life-streams of living beings and identify people he otherwise wouldn't know, if he has seen life stream before he can recognize it instantly upon seeing it again. If something is a living dead he can't detect it as more than part of the environment provided it isn't moving.
Bestow A conscious ability, he has the ability to take a life stream and shove it into a new vessel, this can allow for rapid healing on the part of the person being given another life stream. It can also allow longer life to the person so bestowed. A subpower of drain, as he has to take that stream from somewhere.
Healing- A unconscious ability, His body will use it's energy to heal itself should he be injured severely. This power will only activate if he is severely injured. Injuries such as paper cuts will not activate it.
Levitation/flight- A conscious ability that Richard knows he has but he doesn't know the extent of his power. He is capable of flying as fast as he is capable of running. He levitates by gripping the fabric of the universe with the life energy of the streams. However he only knows that he is capable of levitation and slow flight as 30 years wasn't enough time to teach have been fully taught all the powers of the dreadlords [/ul]
Equipment: Mono Molecular blades he can summon.
Weakness:
While he is powerful he also does not know the full extent of all his powers and as he is still human his body is still vulnerable despite his powers. His healing process using ungodly amounts of energy and is imperfect often leaving traces of the injuries that take far longer to fade than one would expect. Like most with regeneration removing his head will kill him dead. While his energy isn't likely to ever fully run out he can be depleted enough that he will simply collapse in a comatose state. He also could be overwhelmed by someone with mental powers for his mind is human and therefore vulnerable. He is vulnerable to holy energy but less than the standard pseudo demon as he still is human and the dread are not exactly demonic.
