Name: Rene Heartland
Alias: Roulette
Age: 260 (looks about 20) Born 1845
Gender: Female
Alignment: She can be considered either good or evil, but chooses the neutrality of a self server.
Power Level: 4
Timeline: Civil War to Near Future
Appearance: An attractive young woman despite an ugly scar along the right side of her jaw from a confederate saber. Her hair is dark brown with streaks of silver that she wears in a braid down her back to her knees. Her eyes used to be a deep chocolate but as the years pass they grow more and more grey. Her skin is slightly tanned from living in Georgia up until the time of her ‘Great Tragedy’. She stands about 5’7” and is slimly built with ripcord muscles from over two centuries of training and perfecting her abilities. She is usually dressed in whatever garments are common in the area she is hunting in, but her lounging garments of choice are a red tank and black shorts.
Personality: Not a very pleasant person to be around if you’re looking for sparkling, bubbly conversation. She has a habit of being a bit sharp and morbid. Highly pessimistic and bitter about things that don’t go her way. Could be called sadistic, she enjoys killing. It’s what ‘makes her feel human’. Her ideas of the way that society has changed and the inner workings of the human social circle are skewed due to her experiences with the worst sorts of people you could meet. She dislikes talking about the past, hers or otherwise, but if you bring it up she isn’t afraid to tell you exactly what she thinks of your ‘ideas’ of how things were. Has short bursts of different emotions and personalities due to the burden of souls she still carries around with her. Only very rarely will she make an attempt at being pleasant to someone. Doesn’t like making friends because they all die on her sooner or later, but if she does then they are definitely for life.
History:
In the last months of the Civil war, young Rene Heartland and her family considered themselves lucky. Their plantation home had gone unbothered through the terrible war between the states. Certainly, they had been more than happy to free their slaves to allow them to fight for the Union cause, Rene’s father being a just man who believed in this new concept of ‘equality’. They had just received news that the war was over and the Heartland’s were preparing for a celebratory dinner to welcome home the men of their town who had fought in this historical war and to celebrate the oldest Heartland girl marrying a young Union soldier. Little did they know that their revelry was attracting several unwelcome guests.
Guerillas from the Confederate side didn’t appreciate the fact that a Southern family was celebrating their loss. They attacked just as the party began. No one was prepared. Young Rene, who had only just become a bride the day before, watched in horror with her mother and two sisters as their father, brothers, and Rene’s husband were dragged to death behind horses ridden by drunken Confederates. Her mother and sisters were raped and murdered before her eyes… then she was turned upon by the insatiable murderers. Fortunately, the plunder of her father's wine cellar allowed her to escape with her life. She was left broken in body and spirit, her withering soul craving revenge. The Dark One is always listening for such plights… and in this he spotted an opportunity. He appeared to the vengeful young woman and offered her a deal.
The power and skills needed to kill the ones who had done this. In exchange, all the souls killed by her hand would belong to him. Wrought with grief and hatred, Rene agreed. She thus gained increased speed, enhanced perception abilities, and an insatiable bloodlust. She slaughtered the guerillas in a short, but bloodstained campaign and over the body of the last man she attempted to take her own life. She used up all but the last bullet in her gun on herself before she accepted the horrifying truth. She could not die. In desperation that she would regret in the years to come, ‘Roulette’ made yet another deal. Ten thousand corrupted souls sent to the Abyss by her hand… and she would be able to take her own life if she so pleased.
Quote(On why she would accept such a deal): “I was young, afraid of an eternity of blood on my hands. Little did I know, or even consider at the time, that I would be soaked in it before my deal was done.”
Powers: enhanced speed, heightened perception, slight psychic abilities(when she's given a target she immediately knows where they are), and at times she can summon up 'otherworldly' abilities. The hell-born guardian who was assigned to watch over her is bonded to her essence, so in times of stress or danger she can call upon some of his abilities. (Fire manipulation, strength, and quick reflexes.) Unfortunately, when in this state her senses are dulled to the world around her, inhibiting her from being able to distinguish friend from foe.
Weapons: anything she can get her hands on is fair game, but she loves any well made weapon. She keeps a 50 cal. handgun with her at all times.
Weaknesses: She is, of course, being watched at all times, from both ‘sides’ of the playing field. The ones in this position have the specific ability to destroy her if she becomes a nuisance (meaning do GOOD things) or decides to go on a random killing spree. things can injure her, but after a while the wounds heal on their own. However, if the item is lodged in her body (like a bullet or shard of broken glass) the wound wont heal itself unless it's removed. Also, the effects of her use of the demonic powers accessable from her guard.
