Black Nova
Power Level: High Tier Medium (5) (Mid Tier Medium when with a group (6))
Time Period: Medieval
Age: 32
Alignment: Lawful Good
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Physical Description
Skin Color: Pale white
Hair Color: Blond
Eye Color: Blue
Body: Well Built, though thin and agile.
Clothing: A Magical set of clothing. Normally a black robe with long sleeves and hood, tied together by a belt, with colors consisting of black and deep gray throught the robe. Nova also wears a gray tattered cloak, which easily conceals his robes, ussually wearing this when he wants to blend in like a peasent. The hood can be pulled fully down, completely covering his face, strangely, it doesn’t effect him greatly when he fights, and it can even give him advantages. He also has a mask that he can pull up and down over his mouth. He also has a magically enchanted blindfold. The blindfold when worn over the eyes, not only grants him the ability to see, but to see perfectly up to 60 feet in the dark, as well as protecting him from abilities that rely on sight. (Blinding flashes do not stun him, nor does a medusa's gaze turn him to stone, etc) With the hood, mask, and blindfold all worn, it gives him an intimidating appearance that he uses to his advantage.
Personality: Quiet and keeps to himself, though he enjoys the company of others, even if it spent in silence. Quite calm, and rarely loses his temper, though that does not mean he doesn’t get annoyed. Often sees things in the bigger picture, but not to the point where he forgets the current situation. Directly opposes evil, and all of it’s forms, whether it dwells in the darkness, hides in the light, he seeks to destroy it either way, even if a threat is simply potential. He doesn however know the power or reformation, and thus will examine an evil of it's true motives (His entire order, the Shadow Sun Ninja's was in fact founded by a reformed half fiend). He doesn’t reveal much about himself, but will talk of himself if he trusts others enough.
Combat: Black Nova is a Shadow Sun Ninja, a warrior who balances the elements and powers of light and darkness within himself, fighting with both direct combat martial arts, as well as Assassination techniques.
Hand to Hand Combat: Black Nova is very adept in martial arts, as well as channeling ki energy from his continuing training as a Monk. As such, he can deal damage in high amounts with only his fists and other appendages, exceeding those who would be far stronger than him in the amount of muscle mass that would be compared to him. He has knowledge of pressure points and will often try to take advantage of those. He does not use weapons.
Shadow Sun Techniques: Black Nova has acquired various techniques though his training as a Shadow Sun Ninja, these techniques reflecting the inner light within his heart, and the evil shadow that will always be with him. Through acknowledgment that light and darkness are dependent on each other, and one cannot exist without the other, it gives him a power within himself to bend with careful use of his ki energy.
Touch of the Shadow Sun: By focusing on the darkness within himself, he can make a single attack, charged with negative energy. Upon successful contact with this attack, Nova can then make another action, focusing on his light, he deal the exact same amount of damage inflicted in negative energy, and converts it into positive healing energy; he can then heal himself or a nearby ally with a touch of the positive energy. This attack, is somewhat weak, and is mostly used as strategy or an after battle clean up.
Flame of the Shadow Sun: Nova can create a dark shimmering protective cloak of negative energy through the utilization of his ki. This Cloak absorbs cold forms of attacks, and if any are absorbed, Nova can harness that cold energy, rechannel it into light and immediately fling a bolt of white fiery energy at an opponent.
Light Within Darkness: Darkness cannot muffle his inner light, in fact, the shadows cause it to seethe and roil as the light within him struggles to break free. Hiding within the shadows or out of opponent’s sight. If Nova makes an attack against an opponent who doesn’t see him and his attack hits, he suddenly explodes in a corona of light, and any opponents in a large sixty foot radius who did not see him at the time, yet were facing his direction, are blinded for a good 6-10 seconds. Those who notice him, are able to react accordingly and not become temporarily blinded.
Darkness within Light: By denying himself the ability to see, hear, smell, etc, Nova can see visions of the world in a shadowy fog. If his opponents are blinded (If naturally or by way of his special abilities) as well, he can see them very clearly. He is able to react to his opponents more easily, and strike them with ferocious accuracy, possibly incapitating them as well. His opponents must also be blinded as well to gain the high accuracy and devastating attacks.
Void of the Shadow Sun: By focusing on his inner light, Nova is able to create a shield of white fiery energy that can absorb attacks. The shield will absorb a good portion of damage, but not all of it. If the shield takes too much damage it will shatter, but not dissipate. The shattered fragments form an aura of icy cold black energy. This energy, after it fully forms, can then be forced to explode outwards, in a devastating wave of dark freezing energy extending outward to a 30 foot radius. This ability can only be used a few times per battle, and using it is risky, as Nova needs to be struck repeatedly to use this ability. The light also can counteract the effectiveness of some of his other abilities, such as his light within darkness ability.
Child of Shadow and Light: By harnessing the power of his ki, Nova becomes capable of spilling forth light and dark energy. By going into a special fighting stance, Nova can emit light energy around him that fills the area with blinding light, all enemies within 60ft of him become blind to a severe degree (though not permanent). If using Dark energy, Nova emits complete darkness in a 60ft radius, effectively blinding everyone within the darkness. When beginning the ability, the first stage lasts for 6 seconds, before alternating to it’s opposite for another six seconds, then back again. Nova can perform this ability only twice, but it can be made to be a continuous thing. He must keep his fighting stance, and if knocked out of it (note, he can still fight in this stance) the effect stops.
Balance of Light and Darkness: Although Nova strives to control his inner darkness, there are times, especially against nearly hopeless battles, when he releases his dark side in order to combat the threat. Nova is able to transform himself into a creature of pure darkness for one minute. His body and clothing meld together into a deep inky black shadow. In this form, Nova is immune to blows that would normally cripple foes, mind affecting abilities, attacks that would cause instant death, life drain, and poison. He can now easily hide in open sight, his body is now incorporeal (he can harm his foes easily, passing through their defenses, and the only way they can possibly harm him is through magical spells and weapons, which have a 50% chance of missing.) While in the darkness, he can seemingly meld into it, and strike at his foes, making it difficult for them to defend. In addition, every time he strikes a foe, he drains their life force and adds it to his own; each drain severely weakens his foe. (In DnD terms, Level Drain) If the opponent suffers too much of this effect, they die. Though, the life absorbing effects disappear in an hour. However, after the minute, if Nova has absorbed too much energy, his body dies, his soul is jettisoned into hell, and in one day, his body will rise as a vampire, and a dark champion of evil. It is because of this, that Nova will rarely, if ever use this ability, and will only use it in do or die situations, when more than his life (and even one or two innocent lives) is on the line.
Special Manuevers: Trained in special styles of fighting, Nova is able to perform special abilities from the Setting Sun and Shadow Hand schools of fighting, although, he can only perform these abilities once per battle. He can reclaim them however, if he takes a moment to refocus his energy (one entire post in other words)
(Setting Sun) Step of the Wind: When in difficult terrain (rocky, muddy, etc) when in a special stance, Nova can move normally, to the point of running circles around his opponents. This is achieved through special step motions depending on the environment.
(Shadow Hand) Shadow Blade Technique: Harenssing dark energy, Nova can make a special attack, where an after image of his attack appears, making his attack difficult to avoid.
(Shadow Hand) Shadow Jaunt: Nova can teleport up to 50ft away through the shadows.
These are currently the only maneuvers Nova has, over time, he may gain more depending on how he fights and his style of fighting.
Weakness: Though Wricket has many capabilities, some of them are only useful when with others, and others he cannot use at all without affecting his team mates. He is very conscious about his allies, and will try to not impede them in battle, which can limit his effectiveness. He may also struggle against opponents who don’t need their eyes to see, as well as being less effective against non-living opponents.
History:
History:
Wricket Forgen was born into the hardship of poverty from when he was birthed from his mother. In his early life he would often have to steal for food to feed himself and his family. He was the oldest child of three, and felt a personal responsibility from a young age to aid in the keeping of his family. His father was a trinket dealer, however he was in debt to a violent group of crime lords, and thus, just about all the sales of the trinkets went to the gang, in order to have their 'protection'. At one point, Wricket found that one of the growing fortunes of the slums was underground fist fighting. By pickpockiting, he would make around 10 or so copper a week, just enough to get by, but if he could get into the underground fighting, he could change that copper into gold. In order to do that though, he would have to be good, and he would have to win. Entering the ring at the age of 17, he was often the whelp of the fights, the underdog. He wasnt very strong, and he had little experience. He lost many battles, luckily, nobody saw him as a true challenge, and thus, would often not beat on him when on the ground, or defeated. Being spared so much, gave him the opportunity to learn the game, to learn the fight. A year more of fighting, and he began to improve, he began to learn that he did not need strength to win, he could rely on his speed to run circles around his opponents. He learned how to dodge blows at the last moment, and counter attack to a point where it would hurt. He became better, he was good, nowhere near the best, but he was good, and finally began to make the gold required.
A year more of fighting and he began to make a name for himself. Wricket, the Knuckle Devil. He began to crave the fights, once he got in, sometimes he forgot to stop when his opponent was defeated. He was slowly being absorbed by the game, he was slowly being corrupted by it. It was around this time when his father was having trouble keeping up on payments to the gang and at one point, they got fed up, and sent a group after him, to deliver a message that they were not pleased with his bussiness. Wricket had arrived at the point when the messengers were delivering the message to his father, they had no intention of stopping, and one pulled out a knife, preparing to slit his throat. Wricket intervened, pleading for his fathers life. One of the hit men recognized Wricket from the street fights, and it gave him an idea. A proposal was made, and his father would be spared at the moment. Wricket was to meet with one of their leaders at a specific tavern that night, and they would discuss ways in which to spare his father. Wricket agreed, and he met them at that tavern that night. A contract was made, 80% of the debt that was put on his father, would be placed on Wricket, who would represent the gang when he fought in the underground, and 80% of his payouts would go to the gang. It was a terrible deal, completely one sided, but wricket had no choice, he signed.
He fought for the gang, however, he hated it, he made very little, if he won, he received a bit more that what he would recieve if he were to be compensated for losing a bout. He began to hate the gang, more than ever, especially when he discovered that they were slowly increasing his father's debt to it's original proportions. He had been tricked, and there was not much he could do, but enjoy the fights, as they slowly began taking him over. Veterans of the underground were ussually bloodthirsty men and women who would attack an insulter on a mere glance that they didnt like, and Wricket was well on his way to becoming that. During a few of his fights however, someone watched him. They noticed his fighting prowess, they noted on the increasing violence of each of Wricket's fights, and although it was never displayed, they could feel his hatred for the corruption that he was forced into by the gang, and his rage against them.
One day, he was to deliver his payments to an outlet of the gang in a tavern, as he ussually would. As he approached the building, he saw a man walk out, he looked like a begger dressed in tattered garbs, but war a long hood and mask over his face. Wricket did not notice the man at first, regarding him as just a normal passer by. Entering the tavern though, he was surprised to see, the place was a wreck. Bodies of gang members were all over the place, many of them with weapons drawn, or weapons lying by them, but all were unconcious, some even dead. Lying at the floor was a note, that seemed to have been placed in a way to catch Wricket's attention.
"A new contract has been made. You are free. Your family will be protected. If you wish to further combat the evil that you once served, follow this map. Come alone. Tell nobody. Leave now." Upon further examining the paper, there was a map on the back. Wricket quickly ran out of the tavern with the map. He thought for one long hard hour. He wasnt sure exactly what the note meant, but realized that it offered an opportunity to possibly strike down the crime that controlled the town, and if that's what was offered, he would take that. Gathering up what gold he could find and had remainining, he bought what little supplies he could, and set out to follow the map.
He traveled for months. The journey was hard, and he nearly starved to death on a few instances, but he eventually made it to his destination. What he viewed was a large monastary deep within the mountains. Upon entering, he was met by an old man who sat in darkness, surrounded by 5 candles. Wricket approached him, and was offered a choice.
Learn to fight evil, wherever it may be. Or return to his past life, in freedom. Wricket knew his answer, he wanted to fight anything on the lines of the criminals that he once served, so that nobody would have to go through what his family had. He accepted. He was then given four tests. A test of strength, a test of speed, a test of wisdom, and finally a test of all three. He performed admirably and passed them successfully.
It was then, that he was accepted into the Ranks of the Shadow Sun Ninjas.
He was trained to fight in unarmed combat, to deal out damage with his body that seemed impossible for his size and general strength, and move quickly like a blur. He was shown insight, into the ways of a warrior, a code of honor, and how to handle situations as they came to him. He was shown to fight in glory, and shown to manipulate the shadows against his enemies. He was taught, about good and evil, light and darkness, the differences and similarities they all shared, and how it was impossible, for light to exist without the dark, and vice versa. And how even in the most steadfast paladin, there lurked evil within them, as with everyone.
He trained for seven years, every day, for many hours a day. From physical combat training, to mental meditation, to schoolings and drills. Eventually, he would graduate from the schools initial training, he would have to learn the rest from himself out in the world. He was to go out and learn more through personal experience, as on hand experience is the most effective training that one could have. Thus Wricket set out to fight evil wherever it may be, under a new name representing his now balanced mind and soul between light and darkness: Black Nova.
