(Okay, Lotus, this is my alter ego. ;D )
Name: Lothar Kridalgos
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Race: Scion of Darkness
Alignment: Neutral, still leans toward good deeds.
Power Level: High-tier Medium 6
Time-line: Modern
Appearance: About 6' 4". He looks both muscular and agile. He has long black hair, usually tied back in a ponytail. His hair, even when in a ponytail, usually hangs loose all around his head (basically, his hair looks like Vincent's, from Final Fantasy VII) His irises are blood red in color. He usually wears a pair of black slacks, a black T-shirt, a black trench coat and a pair of sleek-looking sunglasses. He also wears a pair of gloves without material covering the fingers.
Personality: For his age, Lothar's actually quite smart. When battling someone, though, he'll give off the persona of a non-serious, arrogant young man. He may even resort to name-calling, but its all just a tactic he uses to make his opponents underestimate him. Doesn't like to make the first move in a fight, unless there's a time factor that would force him to rush himself. Lothar would not describe himself as friendly, but he gets along well with people, until they get on his nerves. This has become more frequent lately, as he is angrier much more often than he used to be. He is sometimes seen as a bit arrogant, but he knows the difference between confidence and arrogance. Despite his young age, he exudes a charisma that is seen only among the greatest leaders in history. He'll do just about anything to protect his mother and twin sister, who are, right now, the two most important people to him. He is also constantly on the the lookout for a potential future Mrs. Kridalgos, as well.
History: Lothar's history begins in the time of King Arthur and his round table. It is common knowledge that the witch, Morgan Le Faye, had a child with her bother Arthur as a part of her scheme to take over England. Here is what is not known about those events. Morgan's sorcery was a result of her coming into contact with a powerful warrior who called himself "Darkside", was a chief agent of Zanatos, an ancient and extremely powerful Archfiend.
When Morgan wished to train Mordred, her son with Arthur, to fight, she sought a powerful warrior. When she found him, she fell in love. His name was Athos Kridalgos, known commonly in mainland Europe as the Black Knight, due to his black armor. He returned her affections, took Mordred under his wing, and soon fathered a pair of twins with Morgan, Lothar and Krystal. One day, "Darkside" returned and demanded a soul in payment of teaching Morgan the power of darkness. Morgan refused, and Athos fought with the fiend. Athos emerged victorious, but was confronted by the visage of Zanatos who explained that his soul was the payment. "Darkside" had thrown the fight at Zanatos' request, so Athos would "earn" the right to become Champion of Zanatos.
Things eventually turned ill for Morgan. Her son, Mordred, and half-brother Arthur had killed each other in combat, Arthur's kingdom was thrown into chaos, and, despite his newfound power, Athos fell into a frozen crevasse due to a combined effort of the entire Round Table and was sealed there by a spell from Merlin while attempting to impede their search for the Holy Grail. Morgan realized that this was all due to her power-hungry ways. She knew what was left of her family could not lead a peaceful life in the aftermath of Camelot's destruction, so she encased herself and the twins in stone. She hoped someone in a future time could release them, so she and her children could live in peace.
One day, in 1985, a man named Thomas Crane came across their statues. This man secretly practiced the ancient magics and realized what had happened. He was struck by Morgan's beauty, but decided he didn't want to raise the children, since they weren't his. He took the statues of Lothar and Krystal to America, released them, and put them in separate orphanages. He went back to England and released Morgan and asked her to marry him as repayment for releasing her. Her response was to ask where her children were. He said he didn't know, but she saw through his lies. She, being the more powerful magician, soon began to torture him to divulge the information. He would only tell her the children were in America before she became fed up and burned him to crisp. She would spend the next 15 years searching for her children.
Lothar and Krystal, only three at the time, were quickly adopted by separate families and would not see each other until their mother reunited them. Lothar was taken by a normal family and led a normal life, despite the fact that he felt this was not his real family, until the age of 18, when he was tracked down by "Darkside." He realized that if Lothar were to take the path of a hero, he would become the single greatest threat to Zanatos' release. He slaughtered the boy's family and reaped their souls. He was about to kill Lothar, when Morgan, who had finally located her son, began to blast the fiend with powerful spells. "Darkside" was caught off guard and dropped one of his swords. Lothar instinctively picked it up and slew the demonic warrior while he was distracted. Soon afterward, Lothar and Morgan were reunited with Krystal, as the sorceress had managed to locate her daughter, as well.
Morgan explained what she thought had happened to her children, who were now young adults, including their history in England, except for the part about Athos being the champion of Zanatos, and why "Darkside" had attacked. She told Lothar that she had done some research while looking for her children, and discovered a prophecy that states "The son of the Black Knight and the Dark Witch would be the one to oppose the Ever-Lasting Evil." She had realized that the prophecy was about her son and Zanatos. She told Lothar that to be prepared for future attacks, he needed to go to a cave deep beneath the surface of the earth and find a sword called Oblivion, but first he must become an accomplished swordsman.
Morgan knew some sword techniques, which she taught to Lothar immediately. He also studied martial arts and trained his body to be strong yet reflexive and agile. After a year of training non-stop, Lothar felt he was ready to go to the cave. He received instructions from Morgan, and made it there in a week.
When he reached his final destination, he saw Oblivion laying on a pedestal. He thought it seemed to easy. He was right. The spirit of an ancient half-fiend hero manifested itself. "I am Vagross. Only the Chosen may claim my sword." "How do I prove myself" Lothar asked, though he had a feeling what the answer was going to be. "You must prove yourself in battle!!"
Vagross manifested a sword from thin air. He and Lothar began to fight. at first it seemed Lothar did not stand a chance. He attempted to land several blows, but was repelled time after time. Lothar soon realized that he could not match the spirit's strength, so he would have to be faster and smarter than the creature. He attempted to bluff the creature into attacking him, saying "Come on! Is that all you've got? I thought you were an ancient hero!" The ancient warrior, seeing Lothar was tired, decided to call his bluff. He charged Lothar, which was just what the young warrior had wanted. He sidestepped the dodge and slashed at the half-fiend's side. "Ha ha ha!" the ancient spirit yelled. "Impressive. There was no way you could have defeated me without Oblivion or your latent powers. The test was to see if you could land a single blow against me."
"So, I passed, then?" Lothar asked, letting a deep breath out. He did not know what powers the spirit meant, but decided to catch his breath before he brought it up. Vagross answered, "Yes, and you have earned more than Oblivion, the sword which can destroy Zanatos once and for all. I shall now awaken the power of darkness within you!" Lothar felt an immense amount of power pour through him, invigorating him. Vagross continued, "The more time passes, the stronger you shall become. Farewell, and be ready for Zanatos' servants. Many of them are still more powerful than you, but now you can fight back against them." The spirit then disappeared.
Lothar returned to the surface, Oblivion in hand, and spent the next five years developing his powers and skills, as well as fighting off demonic attempts to take human souls, open a permanent gate from Hell to Earth, and the like. He was contacted a few years ago by a secret division of the United States government that works to keep the country safe by secretly eliminating threats from magical creatures, evil sorcerers, and other such things of which the general populace is completely unaware. Lothar currently lives by himself and works as a freelance agent for the secret government agency. He speaks with his mother and sister very often, and stays in touch with some of his old high school friends. He still does not know that one of his greatest foes is his father, despite having fought him on a couple of occasions. Athos has been holding back, merely testing Lothar's capabilities.
Recently, Lothar was fighting a powerful demonic cult, but was overwhelmed and captured. When he awoke, he was forced to watch the ritual sacrifice of Tiffany Lacroix, a woman he had been dating for 6 months. The angered him so much that the First Horseman of the Apocalypse was awakened inside of him. With this newfound power, Lothar obliterated the cult, and destroyed the gate they were attempting to open. Since then, Lothar tends to be in a fouler mood than is normal for him, though he tries to bottle it up.
Powers:
Fighting-style: Lothar is an excellent swordsman. Still not as good as his father, but he is getting even better all the time. He uses a style all his own, which incorporates powerful kicks, some grappling, and seemingly gravity-defying flips, jumps, and dodges. He'll make a powerful slash at his enemy's side, and the next second he'll have landed a kick to the back of the head. He may then duck down and follow-up with leg-sweep. He also frequently uses walls to kick off of in order to execute an aerial attack on his enemy. Some would call it an insane, daredevil style and they would be right. He is also capable of adapting his fighting to fit nearly any situation, a good example of how strategic he can be. Other than that, his style is difficult to describe. He is quite strong for a human and can lift, with quite a deal of effort, up to a ton. He is also very quick and agile, twice as reflexive as a normal human.
Senses: Lothar can see in total darkness and seems to have very good hearing and smell, though neither goes beyond a human's maximum potential. He can, however, detect demons/devils, undead, and powerful emanations of darkness or evil.
Resistances: He is extremely resistant to his own powers. Negative energy and taint do not seem to affect him as much as normal humans, either. Lothar has regenerative ability which allows him to heal wounds over time. If his arm was cut off, it would grow back after several hours. Also, it seems his spirit/soul is incredibly resilient a will not confine itself to death for very long.
Shadow Walk: Lothar can blend with his own shadow, even at night, when is shadow wouldn't be visible. The result is a dark outline of Lothar that can only be attacked by something on the plane of shadow, in which case he could defend himself, or by an attack which channels the power of a good-aligned god. He cannot attack anything on the material plane, but he can move at a highly increased speed. The ability takes a mere second to activate, which Lothar does by saying "shadow walk," though it needn't be heard by anyone but him.
Shadow Watch: Lothar raises two fingers to his temple and closes his eyes. When he opens them he can see normally, but can also see through his shadow. Ex. He is about to be attacked from behind. His shadow would "see" this and transmit the images to Lothar's brain, so that he can react as if he were watching the person himself.
Dark Lightning: Like a Sith's force lightning, but it attacks a creature's soul, or the magical energies which hold a creature together. A soul is much harder to destroy than the magical energies which hold together undead and constructs, thus the latter are easier to destroy with this ability.
Dark Fire: Dark fire only hurts nonliving creatures through blast force, if any. Living creatures, however, feel as though they are being burned and drained of heat at the same time when hit with this attack. Lothar can charge this attack up so that the size of the fireball he creates increases.
(I've discarded Daemon's Fury for, what I feel, is a more flavorful and interesting series of alternate forms. Any older versions of Lothar I make will have multiple alternate forms. This version will only have the first available, since the other forms are Power level 7s or higher.)
1st Horseman of the Apocalypse: Famine: Lothar sprouts a pair of leathery, black wings from his back. His mouth becomes lined with sharp fangs. His features become very angular and he looks almost emaciated. His strength increases two-fold, he can fly and one other, incredibly dangerous ability. Should he bite into an enemy, he will begin draining strength from them while simultaneously making himself physically stronger. If his victim has any special powers, he will gain the ability to copy those powers for a period of time, depending on how long he drains strength from the creature. If he completely drains the strength from someone, they will go into a coma, and permanently lose any special powers they had to the First Horseman. Lothar can only use powers he absorbs when in this form. He cannot absorb powers that are given to a person from an outside source, i.e. he couldn't cast cleric spells or turn undead if he did this to a Dungeons and Dragons-style cleric, since their powers come from their god. This power doesn't work on undead, constructs, or gods.
Weapons: Two Magnum, .44 caliber pistols named Manticore & Chimera, each holding six bullets at a time. Rounds come in a magazine form. He does not use these as much as his sword. He reserves them for things which he is incapable of getting close to.
His primary weapon is his morphic sword, Oblivion. His sword can slice through most substances without any trouble. Adamantium can hold it at bay, but not for very long. The only defenses that are not ignored by this sword are magical defenses and legendary armor (such as the Black Knight's).
Weaknesses: Lothar is heavily damaged by the holy energy which comes from good-aligned gods. Blasts of light also hurt him quite a bit. Also, if Lothar charges dark fire too much, it will drain his strength, as will dark lightning, if he releases too many consecutive, continuous streams. His Horseman of the Apocalypse abilities leaves him exhausted.
