Personality: The Guardian Rangers are notorious among the citizens of the Northern Empire for having no personality at all. This is not entirely true, but the rangers will still often fake more extreme emotions to disspell the rumor, yet they have been known to contradict this by arguing that emotions hinder their performance.
All of the Guardians were built with varying degrees of loyalty to the Pyran Emperor, Mogg, and Veritas is no exception, though she considers the laws of the land to be above the monarch's whims until said whims are made law. In truth, the lead Guardian is concerned only with carrying out justice, seeing most every situation in black and white. Out of the full spectrum of emotions, Veritas is only equipped with the standard combination of curiosity, mild anxiety, annoyance, and satisfaction.
History:
Against the invading Deflagron forces, the Northen Empire of Pyra was overwhelmed, out-manned and out-gunned by more advanced Deflagron technology. A few years into the hopeless war, Emperor Mogg's magiscientists presented him with a far-fetched solution to save valuable lives and improve morale. Unfortunately, Mogg was far from convinced, the projects weren't even online yet and the magiscientists needed an enormous amount of funding to finish them.
But as Deflagron efforts pressed closer to the very gates of the capitol, Mogg was left with little other hope. Out of tired exasperation, he granted the scientists their funding, reasoning that, when Pyra fell, he would have lost the money anyway.
A long three months later, after Mogg had lost a third of his empire, the magiscientists returned to the Emperor. They had brought with them two soldiers, average in appearance except for their eyes, both flaring with unnatural energy. The scientists introduced them as projects Alpha and Beta, proceeding to explain their respective powers, weapons, and armor.
Mogg was still unconvinced, observing the soldiers' blank, irreverent expressions. He questioned them directly, but the scientists would keep answering for them. When Mogg threatened the scientists with execution for their disrespect, they hurried to explain that the projects had not yet been equipped with capabilities for higher thought, which they had wanted the Emperor to dictate the finer points of. Appeased for the moment, Mogg allowed the scientists to demonstrate their creations on the battlefield.
Fortunately for the scientists, the projects more than exceeded his expectations. Mogg was pleased especially by Project Alpha's alignment-based abilities, which eliminated risk of friendly fire and the possibility of rebellion, as its powers would not touch that which it was programmed to protect. Project Beta made the Emperor uneasy with its vast mental prowess and easy access to knowledge, fearing that it could be used against himself, but the scientists assured him that precautions had been taken to prevent traitorous acts.
After Mogg's approval was on paper, and many more days of paperwork, fine tuning, and thinking up codenames, Project Alpha and Project Beta were released, free to right injustices wherever they be found, but at the end of every mission, they return to the lab they call their base.
These actions and others led to the additions of four other super soldiers, a team of six collectively titled "The Guardians", over a course of seven years.
As "Alpha Ranger", Veritas is the leader of the Guardians. She enforces trust more than anything, though even she herself truly only trusts only her second-in-command, Aspectus, and all of The Guardians distrust Project Zeta: Nova, one of two recent additions to the team, largely for his full spectrum of emotion and blatant disrespect for any authority but Mogg's. Though he's potentially the most powerful Guardian, he is also their weakest link for his unreliability and rebellion. Veritas finds this extremely annoying, and gives her all the more disdain for creatures capable of full emotion.
When first released, of their sworn enemies, the invading Deflagrons, Veritas cared for nothing but their extermination. After years of experience, however, she has learned to tolerate only one, and that is a nigh-turncoat named Fluvius. While she disapproves of Project Delta: Rush's fondness of the medic, she only vocalizes her concern rather than enforcing it, as Fluvius has been of significant service in the past, and continues to assist them where he can.
Veritas does her best to make the right decisions, but as of late, she's found it increasingly difficult to distinguish between right and wrong when the will of the Emperor begins to go against the very laws he laid down. More and more, she and the others find occasion to defy their own government.
The Alpha Ranger is certain that Mogg is aware of their miniature rebellions. It is suspected that things may come to a head soon, and the tide could easily be turned against them.
Powers:
'Holy' Fire- Veritas is capable of pyrokineses, but once she gets a hold of a flame, it will turn green, changing from normal fire to a Law-aligned one. It would burn Chaotic and certain Neutral-aligned characters, skimming over even the most evil creature if said creature abides by Pyran laws. Spontaneous combustion is powered by her own energy, fire she's previously absorbed, usually through her bad habit of falling asleep in lava pits. Constant absorption was not difficult on a fire-planet like Pyra, but on a Terran-planet like Earth, she would probably need to borrow a lighter.
Fire Immunity- Veritas is unscathed by Normal and most Holy fires, though she is still able to feel the heat from them. She is as vulnerable as any to unholy fires, but her skin is somewhat resistant to acids. Pyran clothing is of course, by necessity, fireproof.
Morphing- The Guardian Rangers are Power Rangers, and do utilize the Morphin' Grid. The helmet, torso (and skirt, for the girls) is the ranger's respective color, the sleeves and pants are black, with white boots and gloves. On the black belt buckle is the ranger's rank printed in one white letter. (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, etc.) This armor is voice-activated, and amplifies the ranger's power up to twofold, depending on their ability. For Veritas, this holds true for summoning and concentrating her fire.
Discernment- If a character of equal or lower power level tells Veritas a lie, she will know it's a lie automatically, though she won't necessarily know what the truth is.
Possession- Like all Pyrans, the Guardian Rangers have the ability to possess another being. This ability is invaluable in espionage as well as combat, giving them access to each other's powers to pull off previously impossible stunts and power alterations that result from the combinations, refined to techniques they've taken to naming. Caution is advised when inventing these combinations, however, as many of the techniques are dangerous and extremely taxing on one or both of the participants. (For example, in Aspectus' and Lucubro's 'Dark Gates', a miniature black hole is opened in Lucubro's chest as something of a permanent disposal to make sure certain enemies don't come back. The technique is very painful for Lucubro, and extremely taxing on Aspectus, used only as a finisher move.)
Possession Combinations: (The Guardian Rangers' signature strategy. Named in a -blank- when possessing -blank- format. Only a few are listed because I haven't made them all up yet.)
Veritas- Aspectus: 'Short Circuit' Combined powers create electricity-based abilities in addition to Veritas' Holy Fire and Aspectus' psychic talents.
Aspectus- Veritas: 'Excorsism' Despite the name, Veritas' Holy Fire is primarily turned to a healing one, able to heal nearly any wounds. Is can also excorsize another Pyran from his host, but this technique is rarely used and no, it does not work on demons.
Weapons:
Blaster- Just your normal, run-of-the-mill blaster. Standard issue.
Purification [Halberd]- A green-tinted blade on an iron shaft, Veritas' primary source of power. It is hidden in the form of the iron locket around her neck, and summoned from it at mental command. This form of her weapon is unwieldy, not used in combat so much as it is for showy incantations and threatening or blasting people.
Purification [Staff]: A green-tinted bo staff, a more practical form of the Purification Halberd. Used in flashy combat, able to create a miniature whirlwind of green fire.
Purification [Sword]: A green-tinted hilt with an iron blade, also an alternate form of the Purification Halberd. Used most frequently in melee combat.
Weakness: Unholy and ice attacks. Atmospheres below Pyra's average 170 degrees Fahrenheit are considered very cold and hinder the Guardians' concentration, but they are highly disciplined and can survive for extended periods of time. If they can find a host more suited to the weather, the cold is negated. The Guardians can swim, but spending too much time in seventy-or-lower degree water can kill them, same as if a human jumped in the arctic ocean.
Misc: Veritas does not believe in the existence outer space. She does believe, however, that all planets and dimensions outside Pyra are part of a shadow realm, a sort of escapable hell where unworthy worlds are banished, which is where most Pyrans believe the Deflagrons came from, through dimensional rifts in the sky. (This is, of course, not true, but a part of Pyra's official religion.)
