Name: James Merrickson, P.I.
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Alignment: Lawful Good
Power Level: Mid-tier Medium
Timeline: Modern
Appearance: He stands at about average height with a sturdy build, but nothing big. He typically wears a white button-up shirt with his shoulder holster under his left arm and brown slacks His belt has notches for pokeballs on its right side, three of which are filled. He's got black hair that's a little messy and has a bit of a five-o'clock shadow on his chin. Since he lives in a particularly rainy area, he often wears a brown trenchcoat when out and about. A cheap cigarrette is usually between his lips.
Personality: A bit rough around the edges, but a good, honest man. He has a chain-smoking problem and tends to drink, but it doesn't seem to affect his personality any. He likes puzzle-solving in his free time, and while many wonder why he doesn't get enough of that kind of thing at work, he feels it keeps his mind sharp. He sees his pokemon as his partners, rather than pets or tools, and in his messy apartment, the way each pokemon has its own section reflects this.
History: Merrickson was a lieutenant in the Hearthome police department several years back. Graduated top of his class from the academy and never had a cold case. But he was something of a black sheep, always a bit unconventional despite his unquestioned dedication to the law and the people he served. He always trusted his nose first and foremost, even when it didn't seem like the logical conclusion. He always got his man, but his seemingly helter-skelter ways kept his C.O. frustrated.
When he came to the conclusion that the ringleader behind a series of high-grade thefts was a shapeshifting pokemon taking the form of a respected member of the region, however, it pushed his chief too far. He was stripped of his badge and kicked out of the force.
He followed the clues on his own, however, and eventually proved his case right, proving instrumental in shutting the ring down, but he refused reinstatement and became a private investigator.
Powers: Just his pokemon.
Growlithe: His first, his partner from the force. The two are close friends, and Growlithe is very stringent on rules. The fire dog also tends to hide James' smokes in an effort to get his partner to quit, but it never works.
Manetric: A speedy, electrical dog with a quick temper and a tendency to lay down unannounced in people's seats, which wouldn't be so bad if he didn't deliberately thundershock them when they sit on him without looking. He's quick to pick fights, his favorite part of the job.
Mightyena: Strongly loyal to James and really a good dog once you get to know him, but something of a bully, particularly to the lawfully-minded Growlithe. The two usually don't get along, as he's always trying to get Growlithe to break away from being quite so unwaveringly strict. Mightyena, himself, isn't against a little underhandedness, so long as it gets the job done.
Weapons: .45 Revolver with a speed loader.
Weakness: He's hesitant to hurt others, especially women and children. He'll hold his fire inanely long if the enemy is a woman as a natural instinct, which could very easily be a liability. Also, he's no ace trainer. He's a detective, not a battler. He's good enough to take care of riff-raff, but an experienced pro will work him and his team up one side and down the other.
