Name: Dimitri Van Holden
Age: 17 (physical), ??? (actual)
Gender: Male
Race: Elven Werefox
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Power Level: High-Tier Medium
Timeline: Past, Fantasy
Appearance: A slim, slender 6'2 young man with pale skin and icy blue eyes. Has feathery jet black hair and long pointed ears. Face has a handsome shape to it, but he is incredibly skinny around most of his body. Wears skin-tight chain mail and baggy, ruffled dark blue pants held to his waist by a matching sash and a black leather belt. Wears fingerless leather gloves with buckles that cover most of his forearms and matching boots made in a similar fashion. Usually wears a dark blue scarf covering his mouth and a matching cloak as well as a black chest plate of armor.
Personality: Is often very shy and reluctant and is very distrusting of strangers. Is headstrong on his current goal and will persevere through whatever it takes, not by motivation or inspiration but sheer will. Is mostly merciless in combat, but if he kills he will feel remorse hours later. Can be extremely sympathetic and facilitating to those he is bonded to by circumstance. Does not like to talk about himself.
History: Dimitri Van Holden lived in a mystical world parralel to ours, but different in many ways; while all living beings generally lived on a single planet, all races thought to be mythical lore existed on the same plane of soil, but their technology was up to par with the early 1900's. Humans were extinct and elves were endangered; mages became the planet's minority.
Dimitri was the arrogant prince of a faraway kingdom on this planet. He was loved and cherished by almost everyone in his local area, and accomplished many difficult feats. However, his overconfidence got the better of him, and he eventually started to seriously mistreat his closest allies. When one angered him at the least, he would challenge them to a duel, ignorant of whatever injuries he may gain in a drive to kill them.
When his change of heart shocked his kingdom, he continued to act as if everything was his. His father, whose bold but selfish ways drove him to his behavior in the first place, started to be disgusted as well. Eventually the enraged villagers grew tired of his abusive ways and an angry mob scarred Dimitri's entire body.
Dimitri had disgraced his homeland. He no longer took so much pride in himself, not for his newfound hideous appearance to the point where ever inch of his skin was bandaged, but the realization of the error in his ways. Dimitri took few possesions and left the kingdom to become a secluse.
During his travels many kindhearted people encountered Dimitri and confided in his potential. He seriously doubted that any good allies could be rightfully his, but appreciated their hospitable nature and made it a goal to emulate their merciful kindness. Whenever he witnessed overconfident figures mirroring his past sins, though, an emboldened rage seethed within his heart. He wanted to erase such foolishness from the earth, but did not want to engage in violence any longer.
Eventually one of his closest friends convinced him to return to his original home. Dimitri was recieved with dubious respect at first, but when they took note of his new, simple ways and kind behavior they began to truly treat him as a prince.
Dimitri didn't believe that this was right of them. He loathed himself for his past sins and wanted to flee once more. The night he was going to embark further away from his kin again, a gargantuan, hideous monster with dozens of black tentacles tore apart the castle and killed everyone.
Dimitri himself was impaled by one of the beak-like claws protruding from the tentacles; though this would normally be lethal, especially with the beast's venom injected within his veins, Dimitri survived for originally unknown reasons. He awoke centuries later, having undergone drastic and confusing changes; each and every one of his scars disappeared, and it seemed as if he didn't age at all.
Dimitri also lost his memory in the process, and set out on a journey to figure out why he had awoken in the midst of ruins. Something within the venomous toxin that now flowed in his bloodstream permanently instilled the state of mind Dimitri was in at the time of being impaled, which was lamenting his past mistakes. He was never able to consciously realize them - Dimitri felt guilty for incidents that, in retrospect, he was never responsible for.
Eventually Dimitri journeyed to a legendary cave that was housing two mystical scimitars forged out of unbreakable ice that were a family treasure of his. Tales rumored that these swords were surrounded by an invisible ring - once a traveler would step inside, the magic of the swords would take effect, and emit the beholder's worst fears and memories. The ring would trap them inside, and they would end up going insane, unable to touch the swords since they couldn't bear to get closer to it's fearful aura.
When Dimitri entered the ring, he found that the swords were now high atop a mountain of skeletons - the unfortunate adventurers who previously attempted to claim the weapons. The aura, like it had been to everyone else, was agonizing, but since Dimitri was the latest member of the forger's family, he was able to lay a hand on the blades without his mind being torn to shreds.
Upon contact with his inherited scimitars, the ring disappeared, and so did the aura. Dimitri gained the ability to harness this power within the swords and use it on others as he wished. His journey was not yet complete - Dimitri sought to repent for the past incidents he was not conscious of, but still haunted him, even after his amnesia.
Eventually he discovered that the beast who killed his family and injected it's toxin into his veins was the sum of the work of another of the family's inventions. They would often cast bitter and undesired thoughts and feelings into a well bubbling with a black substance. This substance was alive, and fed off of the fear and hatred the family held for the crises amongst them. Eventually it evolved into the hideous beast and escaped it's chamber.
Why Dimitri was the only of his kin who was spared, he does not know, but he has figured out one thing; this beast is unstoppable, and he must not let it follow him where it can harm others.
Powers: Dimitri is incredibly acrobatic and well-fit naturally, as well as an incredibly skilled fighter and swordsman. The venom that seeths in his blood cursed him with permanent anhedonia, but in turn granted him the ability to survive without food, water, air and sleep, as well as regeneration - he can heal from normally lethal wounds within a half hour. It also prevents him from aging any further physically. The abilities he gained from finally reaching the swords includes minimal telepathy, being able to sense only the current thoughts and feelings of whoever he chooses, as well as immediately finding their deepest fears and desires. He can also withhold the sword's magic if he chooses to so that it does not bring pain to his friends.
Weapons: Dimitri carries knives and daggers with him from time to time, but mainly prefers to use his mystical scimitars. These swords, crafted out of magical ice, are unbreakable and resistant to heat. They can grow even colder upon Dimitri's whim, and can alternate the intensity of the fears and sorrows it inflicts upon those around him. The swords can emit a thick frost to enable Dimitri to move unseen as well as freeze things.
Weakness: Dimitri is not as strong as most of his adversaries and has a very poor self-image.
