REGULAR GUIDELINES[/u]
General Rules
All these General Rules account for every single place.
1. You spam, and you're banned. You hear me? No more screwing around.
2. Cursing is allowed, but don't abuse it. If you must go on a cursing rant, go somewhere else to blow off some steam first. If you don't like it, then don't cuss. If someone seems to be cussing extremely, don't complain in the thread. Bring it to the staff and let us handle it.
3. You flood, we ban. This includes massively huge posts.
4. If the image is massive, make a LINK to it. Don't use the Img code.
5. Too many images in a post (non-linked) is flooding. (Smiley Wars too, damn it.)
6. We allow mildly sexual material as long as it's not overly offensive. Hentai and porn are out of the question. Scanty pictures are also out. If you feel you must use them for descriptive purposes, it is recommended you find other pictures. If it does get overly offensive we will take it down, no questions asked. It's up to the admins on what is right.
7. Any illegal or racial or hateful stuff isn't allowed either. Don't like Yaoi? We don't give a crap. Don't post about it, then. Same with people outside of the EAB. I don't care if they're the reincarnation of Hitler. By all means, DISCUSS what they did and didn't do in a civilized manner, but if it's just to swear about them or if the thread ends up like that, we'll remove it.
8. Drugs are bad, mkay?
9. Wanna fight with or insult other posters on the board? Think twice, unless you want an instant ban. Bring your issues to the staff if there's a problem with another member and let us handle it.
10. A POST COUNT MEANS NOTHING. OKAY? NOTHING!
11. RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS.
12. Cease and desist all these "multiple character" replies in non-RP boards.
13. Religious discussions are hereby banned from all topics. It should go without saying, but DON'T MAKE JOKES ABOUT RELIGION!
14. This forum is called the Elite Authors' Boards for a reason, but not because we're some elitist snobs who turn people away we don't like. You are, however, expected to hold to a higher standard of performance and behavior than on many other role-playing and writing forums. We won't kick you out because you're inexperienced, but we do expect you to do your best to improve. That means listening to the advice from others and understanding that what they do is FOR YOUR BENEFIT! And particularly if a senior member does the recommending, it might not be a bad idea to at least listen to what they have to say. Be hateful with those trying to help you, and you get to tangle with the staff.
15. There will be no "thread hijacking." If you don't know what this is, it's where a topic is started about something specific, and turns into a completely different subject, or even an argument. Please keep all posts on-topic.
16. If you intend for whatever reason to leave The EAB with little to no intention of returning, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DELETE YOUR POSTS. Regular members lack the power to do this properly, and when they try it only causes trouble for the rest of us so just send a PM to an Admin or Global Moderator and we'll take care of things.
17. If a member is permanently banned, DO NOT repeatedly ask when or if that member will be allowed back. There have been times when we are willing to reconsider a site ban, but only at the request of the one banned and if they express an interest in changing their ways. If you hound us about it, you're likely to get banned, as well. The same goes for constantly ASKING that someone be banned without due reason.
18. While we obviously cannot dictate what you can and cannot say outside of our forums, for example over instant messenger, if you harass or insult our members extensively over those channels, you can and will be subject to penalties on the forum. Coming here is a privilege, not a right. Obviously, charges will require logs and an investigation, but if it is found that you are harassing another member away from the EAB over EAB matters, you can and very likely will be banned.
19. Thread Necromancy - If threads are back to the second page, or the third if it's a busy section, it's safe to say the thread is no longer active. Reviving it is what is called Thread Necromancy. This IS allowed if an RP has been waiting on you and you finally manage to post (though we encourage you to stay more active so you don't hold others up) or if it's an information thread and you have new data to present. This IS NOT allowed when it's a dead RP and you're asking for admission, if you're just trying to chat it up, or if it's on a subject that has long since passed (like the Elections of 2004). Illegal acts of thread necromancy will first result in a warning, and repeated, frequent offenders will be banned.
20. The spirit of the rules will be enforced, and if you really want to upset a staff member, try to play lawyer. I always liked the way M'dhoria put it. "There is no Lawyer class." Don't try to argue the rules. We KNOW the rules. We're the ones that wrote them! And whether or not you believe the rules are fair, by participating on our forum, you are agreeing to follow them. Don't join, participate, then complain because you don't like one of the rules, or argue it with us because you think it should work differently. Our rules are here for a reason, and if you believe they should be changed, there are channels you can use to recommend it - this thread, the suggestions thread, contacting a staff member - but breaking it because you think you're above them or that they shouldn't apply to you isn't one of them.
Signatures and Profiles
1. Signatures cannot contain too much graphics or long text. The character limit for signatures is 400, and it cannot be changed. Keep it short.
2. Your signature may contain pictures, but they cannot be too big, and they cannot be inappropriate. If we find it as being inappropriate, you will be politely asked to change it. If you refuse to or cannot be reached, or if it is urgent, we will change it directly. Throwing a fit will warrant a ban.
3. Your personal icon cannot be inappropriate. If we find it as being inappropriate, you will be politely asked to change it. Under the same circumstances as above, we will come in and change it directly. Throwing a fit will warrant a ban. The maximum size is 100x100, and this cannot be changed, we apologize.
4. Signatures cannot have huge animations. Respect the people with slow connections.
5. Keep the content in your profile (including personal text) clean of the bad stuff we already talked about.
6. If we want to, we will go into your profile and change things. Don't like it? Don't break the rules.
7. Changing your screen name is allowed, but not desired. If you wish to change your screen name, change it into something you're sure you like, and keep it that way. People who change their names more than once will be PM'd by a member of the staff about it, telling them to pick a screen name and stick to it. In case you fail to cooperate, you will have your name changed back to what it was and/or banned for a limited period of time.
8. Only one account per user! If we catch you creating multiple accounts, we delete all except the oldest one, which we ban for a limited amount of time. Sometimes, you may not receive an activation e-mail with your password. In this case, contact a staff member and we can take care of that for you.
9. All signatures, icons, etcetera MUST remain PG-13 or lower, no exceptions! Just because Proboards restricts access against anyone under 14 doesn't mean that just because they won't be here, suddenly the rest of us want to look at it.
CATEGORY SPECIFIC RULES
Boards in "Admins Domain"
1. The Citadel - Don't bother asking to get into the back room. No matter how much you bug us, you're not getting in. Sorry.
Boards in "General"
1. General Discussion - Make sure you don't post anything that belongs in another board. We'll move the topic if you do, but... just don't.
2. Music Station - Remember to respect other's opinions, don't like a certain band? Then don't flame someone about them listening to it. Also, this is a board for rap battles, but don't go overboard with the insulting and everything.
3. Suggestions - Don't start fights in here. Only friendly suggestions should come to pass, and only constructive arguments shall be made against them if one wishes.
4. The Debate board is not coming back.
5. Introduce Yourself - When welcoming new members, do NOT advertise other websites or forums. You're supposed to welcome the new people to this board, not redirect them somewhere else. That means no links and not even a hint pointing to somewhere else in the board like "Welcome, look down in the links section.". This behaiveor is no longer tolerated here. If you MUST advertise, put the ad in you signature and be sure to abide by the sig rules while you're at it.
6. Guests - This board is for guests to come in, ask questions about the board, and to find out if it's for them or not. It is NOT for banned members to come in and gripe and complain because, for some reason, they don't have a freaking clue what they did to get banned. Just because you seem to forget what happened immediately before you got banned and can't seem to look it up yourselves is no reason to come and complain in a board you don't even belong in. If you were put under a ban, YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED ON THE SITE!!! That doesn't mean you can come in with some adorable nickname and spam the Guests section. If you're under a ban, you're not allowed to post ANYWHERE!!! If you are under a temporary ban and found posting in the Guests thread, your ban will be extended by a minimum of one day for each post made.
Boards in "Stories Etc"
1. All authors are to be respected as equals. Period. End of story. If you do not like the work of someone, feel free to give them constructive criticism and try to help them further their talent. If you recieve constructive criticism, please do not take it as offensive unless it truly is. True offensiveness will result in IMMEDIATE BANS, NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
2. The highest rating we allow for stories is R, just like FanFiction.net. If you believe your story might be NC-17, or a bit too risque for even an R rating, consider not posting it, as it will be deleted.
Boards in "Games"
1. If you're a really big game(or game series/company/character...whatever)-fan, control yourself, we know how some of you are. People like what they want to like, okay?
2. Don't start arguments about which console is better and such. Quite frankly...its a matter of opinion and according to Rule #11, we're to respect one anothers' opinions.
Boards in "Anime/Manga"
1. If you're a really big anime-fan, control yourself, we know how some of you are. People like what they want to like, okay?
Boards in "Fan Made Stuff"
1. Plagiarism is strictly forbidden. All stuff posted by users is copyrighted to them. If you don't want to risk getting plagiarized, then do not post your things.
2. Fan Art - Keep it clean, please.
Boards in "Other Stuff"
1. Links - None of your personal selfish links. (Such as ones with PayPal links or selling things) We don't care.
2. Links - If you advertise Outwar, King of Chaos, or any site of the sort, you better hope we don't see it. These are nothing but spam sites, where the entire idea is to make people visit the site. Any links of this type will be deleted without warning.
3. Entertainment - Everyone has stuff they like and don't like. Respect one another's tastes and don't be a dick about it.
4. Advice - Be nice, please.
5. This is L33T - Don't get too insane in here. This forum is for pointless fun stuff that is humorous. Obvious spam machines will be dealt with swiftly.
Boards in "Role Play"
1. All characters MUST have a COMPLETE character profile before they can be used in an RP.
2. If your character is of an original race, you MUST complete a profile for that race in the Race section before using that race.
3. Keep things reasonable! Just because this is open-ended roleplay doesn't mean that you can come up with anything. Remember how much is too much when designing either a character or a race. Just because you CAN submit a race of ancient super-angels with infinite lifespans, the ability to cross the width of the multiverse and back in fractions of a second, and the strength to knock whole planets out of orbit doesn't mean you should. Such races and characters will be refused entrance into any RP by the administrators, even if you find an RP maker that will accept it.
4. Please use the EXACT form provided in all profiles. These are usually in a stickied thread or at the beginning of the thread. Failure to use these will result in rejection of the character. It's even set up for easy copy and paste. We do our best to make the creative writing process simple and quick for you. Please respect that and do it.
5. Watch the balance of profiles. If you have three pages of descriptions about outfits, but two lines about her personality and five in her history, there's a good chance you're not putting enough attention into the rest of the profile. While we appreciate such a grand amount of detail, character profiles are for, ironically enough, profiling the CHARACTER, not their massive selection of trashy clothes. This imbalances your profile and makes it difficult for others to sift through it to find what they need to know.
6. It's alright to put "Pending" as an entry for a section of a profile if you're in a hurry and want to get up what you have before you forget it, but you MUST finish it before you use that profile in an RP.
7. The only exceptions to rules 4 and 6 are in the case of plot-based characters and NPCs. These do not require a profile, and if one is put up for information for the members, it does not have to have information that could give crucial plot or puzzle information away. However, such things must be filled out before they can be used in other RPs.
8. The RP Discussion section is only there for convenience. You are not required to discuss an RP in advance there before creating it, and neither is anyone else.
9. The Humor RP section, unless specified by the RP Maker, does not necessarily follow the rules of the rest of the RP section, due to its non-serious nature.
10. RP Makers have the right to refuse any character on any condition, so long as it isn't due to discrimination against the other member, themselves.
11. RP Makers have the right to perform non-lethal autos for the purpose of preserving or progressing the plot without your consent. Sometimes they're nice and talk it out with you, sometimes they've got other things to worry about. In either case, don't razz them for it.
12. RP Makers MUST give critical warning before executing something that would terminate a character's life. This is another of those "within reason" rules. Just because you're not paying attention, that doesn't mean they should have to spend ten posts saying that the lava in the volcano is rising quickly and will overrun the fighters at any moment if they don't get out of there pronto. If you fail to heed critical warning, it is your own fault.
13. Respect reality! This can be hard to determine in some cases, but for the most part, it's fairly straight forward. Six-shooters only carry six shots, five-year-olds don't have the physical size or strength to swing Giant Swords, and two-year-olds don't have the mental development to build super-computers out of spare pacifiers.
14. Use proper grammar at all times. This site is supposed to be a cut above others that do the same thing. Chatspeak is completely against the rules, as is gross abuse of the English language. RP posts are encouraged to be in paragraph format. We're not grammar nazis, but we do expect you to put forth some modicrum of effort into making your posts.
15. It's okay to ask a few OOC things in posts, but if it gets extensive, take it elsewhere, over PMs or instant messenger. Please don't clutter the threads.
16. If you wish to make an RP, you have the right to do so, so long as anyone has equal opportunity to get involved, within reason. If it's only going to be for you and someone else, and you really have no intention of including anyone else, please do the RP over instant messenger then post it in the Chat RP section. If you're just going to open it to others to get around this, this is discouraged, as it makes it a very poor RP experience for others.
17. STAY IN CHARACTER! If your character is an innocent girl searching for her lost love, she should NOT turn around and be the right-hand wench of an evil super-villain one RP later just because you like the other character's player. This abuse of character concepts has gone on long enough, and this rule WILL BE ENFORCED! Don't like it? Make an appropriate character for the situation.
18. No autoing, godmodding, metagaming, etcetera. This involves doing things outside your character's abilities, controlling the responses of others, using knowledge that you know about the plot and what's happening in the story and suddenly having your character know it, and many more things. If someone ever accuses you of autoing, godmodding, etcetera, and you don't believe you are, ask a staff member for their opinion and they can mediate the situation. IF A STAFF MEMBER MAKES A DECISION, THAT'S IT! Don't argue with them over it. They have their positions for a reason.
ALWAYS REMEMBER
"The Golden Rule"
This community is meant to be a nice one for people of similar interests to hang out and converse freely. Though not everyone will have the same interests as one another, there is absolutely no reason to create any bad blood between friends. This is the internet. We respect the rights people receive as part of the United States Constitution, but we will NOT desist in creating order and enforcing these rules at all times. We expect them to be followed, and we expect the posters to make this forum a good place to post. If you do not agree with any of the rules aforementioned, then toughen yourself up and follow them, or don't bother posting in the forum at all.
Administrators
We the administrators are in charge, and we have our positions for a reason. It is our responsibility to keep things in order. Anyone who feels the need to constantly break the forum rules or defy the power of the administrators will be dealt with how we see fit. There will be no exceptions whatsoever. Shape the hell up and be a good person, or don't come here at all.
