I don't know what's gotten into me, but I seem to have this recent fascination with maps of Europe, wars, and plotting strategy. (Well, more fascinated than usual, anyway.) Following this natural line of thinking, I've recently come up with, as well as borrowed, several ideas and plans to create an online forum-based strategy game, akin to "Risk" if you will. What I'd like to do is set up a round here and see if it works...I'd probably have to create a new as-yet temporary board for this, seeing as how it's really something all on its own and doesn't quite fit into any board we currently have. Will it work? I have no idea, but I've been thiking over several "rules" and guidelines to make it work for play in a forum-based environment, so it should. Think of it as a sort of open beta, if you will. Is it dull? Most likely...it is essentially "Risk" on a forum, after all (as if the game wasn't slow enough already). However, I'm hoping that since it's something new and shiny for the forum that a lot of people who normally don't much care for such things will at least give it a try. So let me know what you think: would you be willing to give this a shot? Should we go ahead and temporarily post up a new board on the forums to try this out? Questions and comments welcome.

Dude. Risk is the best game I have ever played on a board game. I would -LOVE- to see this done. Well done. Cudo's to you.

Heh, thanks...I like Risk a lot, too. Never was a fan of the time it took, so we usually ended our games early and decided a winner. What an impatient lot we were... ;D
If I get a good amount more comments like yours, this thing's definitely a "go". Then it's only a matter of getting approval from one of the other admins.

I've been wanting to try Risk since my "Battle Masters" days, but haven't do to bright and shiny video games with the help of no one to play against. That aside, I'd love to see some TBS game here on the forum. To conquer the EAB, or not to conquer the EAB? *Strokes ancient Asian beard.* I would probably wind up in some wacky alliance and do something close to a strategic Kamikaze... I wonder what units we get, and this is giving me ideas for a new L337 thread.

"Risk" is a really fun game...I'm just not sure how it would work on a forum. I guess you could always trash it if it didn't work out.

Eh, I say sure, no harm in giving it a whirl. I loved Risk, haven't played it in ages, though. I don't really hold out hopes that it'll last well, though. We'll have to see.

Blue skadoo, and you can too!
With that in mind... I think this would be an AWESOME idea!

Well, I think I need to advise that this is not Risk, but I will be borrowing heavily from it, and a couple other sources. I don't have ideas for getting so in depth so as to have special units and whatnot, just a basic little system of strategic army v. army, and I'm still figuring out exactly how this is going to work out, but...well, that's why I'm calling this more of a "beta". In any case, this won't be taking place until after finals are over. Until then, I'm open to any ideas as to how to due this...though keep in mind the medium... ;D

I actually made my own board game once, with military units like Howitzers, tanks, infantry and the like, each with different movement speeds, attack power, defense points (hit points) and specialties. (Troops were effective against Howitzers, Howitzers were effective against Jets, Jets were effective against Tanks, and Tanks were effective against Troops.) The board placed the two armies on opposite sides of the board with different obstacles like bridges, rivers and rough terrain. There would also be several bases, such as a headquarters, an air base and a bunker, where different pieces could be "repaired." The ultimate objective was to either destroy the enemy or capture their headquarters.
I made it when I was, like, 8, but I still think it was a pretty awesome board game. I know, kinda off topic, but this reminded me of it. I wish I was good enough at programming so I could make a playable version online, maybe with randomized terrain and locations.

This sounds like a totally rad idea... how would it work?
As for suggestions, it could be like matrix style (I think that could work) and as N4 said, trying to conquer the EAB... Hm... How about trying to conquer the EAB via hacking (and Ninmast if your wondering I did get the conquer/hacking idea from the PZ incident on the URPB back in... '04/'05 i think it was....) so yeah those are my suggestions, I think a forum strategy game would be awesome, the ideas above are merely suggestions inspired by personal experiences. Anyway, get this thing up sometime soon, it sounds awesome!

Trying to conquer the EAB? Sounds interesting...but I'm not quite sure what you mean, or how I would adapt that to text-and-gif forum format. Now, if you're a flash or java god, feel free to tell me, and we could probably create a program to base here on the boards (which would make this whole hacking/matrix idea really work), but as it stands, I don't know how I would be able to do that...
