It only took Miss Blue a second to figure out what the Bailiff had done to her, but she didn't seem to care too much. When the judge made this new accusation, she sent David a huge grin.
'Haha! I told you!' She telepathed as loud as she could, but she didn't have telepathy. 'I told you you had way too many characters!'

A tall young man trudged his way to the court room. Wearing a professional looking pair of slacks and a sports jacket, with brown hair slicked back he looked more than ready for his day in court. He was a little late for his appearance, and that bothered him a bit, but they wouldn't lock him up and throw away the key just for that... right? That is what he believed.
He soon approached the great oaken doors to the court room. Before he could step in however a bailiff held out their arm, preventing him from entering. Without a word, the young man knew that he was late, and from the sounds of back and forth voices emanating from behind the oaken doors, they took those in line ahead of him. Sighing to himself, he sat down on a nearby bench. He had a bad feeling in his gut, but whistled a tune aloud, giving a false aura of calmness. He would have to wait his turn...

"I have multiple stories posted, each with multiple original characters," the ranger continued. "As for my registered characters, I could rattle off as many as I can off the top of my head if you would like, Your Honor."

The Bailiff by True Blue visibly stiffened and the expression on the Judge seemed to wither away into horror at the statement as well.
“David…” the Judge took a gulp, and as he did his complexion only got paler, “Are you admitting to your author having illegal characters already participating in stories?”
The Judge didn’t really wait for a reply, and instead fumbled around his podium for his gavel; when he immediately found it he slammed it several times, loud clacks apparently sounding off to quell not the outer order but the inner one. After rapping the small mallet an acceptable amount of times, he pointed it at the ranger, “With the revelation that your controlling author has possibly been amassing illegal characters yet integrating them in other stories for unknown reasons, the only solution at this time is to have you detained while the Knights and Association administer appropriate action. I will be issuing a subpoena to conduct a full investigation of your controlling author’s history, records, etc. as well as levy the appropriate compensation for avoidance of the sensible dialogue taxes.”
The Judge’s eyes flicked to True Blue, he puffed up with new air before speaking, “Miss Blue, as unfortunate as it is, you are no innocent bystander in this so you shall be given a sentence as well for your crimes-. “
He cut off his own words and suddenly froze, an eerie silence falling upon the room. A quiet tapping of shoes came from behind True Blue and the ranger, yet another nameless but differently colored Bailiff came up before the Judge. The Judge in turn nodded his head and gestured with a weak hand, “He is here is he? Very well bring him in.”

The young man was just about to engage in a session of thumb twiddling, when the doors to the court chambers began to open. From their movement echoed through the building a heavy wooden creak, foreboding in its sound, it could send a wave of awe and dread to the very soul. Standing up and fixing his black and gray striped tie, he faced the doorways. To his surprise, it had suddenly grown silent, the chorus of echoes he had heard a moment ago no longer held presence in the room. He entered the room cautiously but with his head held high. It seemed like the echoes from his footsteps were louder here than in the previous hallway. He soon approached the front of the courtroom before stopping. He waited silently to be acknowledged, and told what to do, whether it be sit, stand, speak, jump, dance like a penguin, he decided that being as respectful as he could, would be the way to go.

The ranger scratched his head again as he elevated one eyebrow. It seemed to be a common reaction to being confused, as if he could somehow stimulate his brain into processing it by scratching its back for it. "If you could, Your Honor, could you explain to me what constitutes an illegal character? To my knowledge, I have no such characters."

The Judge cast a fleeting glance at David, “Illegal characters are ones that are not properly registered into the database, and your controlling author should already know this. He’s already registered you among a few others, but the disturbing fact remains that he did not see it fit for the other ninety-some characters to go through the legal process.”
He cleared his dusty throat again, and confirmed the newcomer was indeed before him.
“Controlling author, Kainus Maximus,” the Judge spoke with utter clarity despite the events that had occurred prior to him entering the room. The same odd-colored Bailiff presented folder with a giant red X marked on both sides of it to the Judge. The Judge proceeded according to protocol as True Blue and David observed in silence. He’d figured it was apparent enough that Kainus’s case was one that took precedence over theirs.
“Kainus Maximus,” the Judge repeated with weighted purpose, “you should know very well why you are here today.” He held up the folder with the disgraceful scarlet letter on it for him to see and re-absorb the direness of its meaning.
“The minor counts of lack of spell check and proof reading are easily remedied with Community Story Tutoring… The slightly notable crimes of Story Negligence to the point of Fable-death could be served with mandatory attendance at the Better Commitments Institution. But… the most fatal of your crimes would be not the neutrality of Mary Sue/Gary Stu personas, but support of them!” The Judge glared darkly from his safe nest of authority at the words Mary Sue and Gary Stu, disgust highlighting his features like the words were profane.
“Even the youngest controlling authors and characters are informed of the history of the Land regarding their kind. Are you familiar with it, Kainus?”
It was common knowledge that after the Golden Text Age was the Great Drafting, a time when calamity was common place and the death of most written works had been led by characters that had fit the titles of Mary Sue and Gary Stu respectively. Some still existed in the scant, privately owned regions of the Land, but they were mainly kept alive as examples of what not to do or in the most exclusive of Institutions as an endangered, but reviled species of archetype. Supporting them was akin to supporting the anarchy and conflict that the Great Drafting caused.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa," the ranger spoke up. "What's the word? Oh, right. Objection!"

"Ahhhhhh" Kainus said in a raspy hum, summoning up the words from deep within his gut. He was not necessarily afraid, but indeed was nervous. He needed to tread lightly here, any incorrect phrasing of his case could reflect badly upon his already tarnished name. He spoke clearly and loudly, to show regret or remorse in his voice would be a sign of guilt.
"Yes, your honor, I am indeed aware of what stance I follow in the terms of quote on quote support, for Mary and Gary Stu’s and Sues and whatever other form they may take. I should note however, that I show my support in the form of written interaction, AKA role-playing, but not necessarily in that of fictional works. But I should note, your honor, I have very good reasons for such support in the eyes of a role-player. If you'll allow me to explain my said positioning your honor, your eyes may very well be opened up to that of a world of, tolerance…” He paused for moment “Or possibly the thoughts of a madman depending on your interpretation.” He concluded.

The Judge didn’t even blink at David's interjection, but the other-colored Bailiff had already helped himself to mimicking the muting action that had been done to True Blue.
The Judge continued as if no such action other than Kainus's words were presented, he motioned with his hands, "Proceed with your point, controlling author."
(Sorry, had to edit it due to bad timing of posting on my part.)

The ranger easily took the hint and, unlike True, simply crossed his hands behind his back and calmly waited in silence, with or without the mute.

Kainus nodded, he may only have one chance at this so he would have to cover as many points as he could conceive, sadly he would not be able to get to them all. He was prepared to debate his points if need be, but he may not be lucky enough to get the chance to do so.
"Well, your honor, I would first like to state; I support the creation and use of such characters, just like I do of a wide range of other characters. However I myself do my utmost best to avoid taking on the qualities of such characters in my own works; as I as well deem them to be offensive, repugnant, and unnecessary. However, besides that, I perceive they do no further damage to me, nor to any other author. As a role-player, I see that such characters, avatars, created as extensions of people’s creativity and interaction with the creativity of others. If a character has extreme power, irresistible charisma, and an unheard of traumatizing background, that is their character, and that is their business. I don’t have to like it, nobody has to like it in fact, but to discriminate and put a ban on such characters, which limits in essence an author's ability to enjoy their character, and to enjoy interacting with others. So I invite other authors, to try and balance their characters, make them more reasonable, and have less of the repugnant qualities. However, if they are incapable of making such modifications, I will not raise my nose to them; I will accept their characters, as distasteful as they may be. Sometimes even, an author’s strength may not be in the background of their character, but through their interaction. Perhaps these slates can be cleansed through the process of role play, they evolve, so that maybe if that character doesn’t change, perhaps the next generation would.” He sighed heavily, taking a moments rest in his speech before concluding.
In short your honor: I support others for creating characters and role-playing what they enjoy, be that normal characters as bland as one can imagine, to those as colorful as the wings of a butterfly, and even those that would be marked as a Sue or Stu.

The Judge nodded kindly at the words, he was old enough to have understood where the idealism came from, but experience almost always disagreed with the concept, “That is all very well and good, but unfortunately history has proven otherwise. It would be wonderful to live in an Ideal Land just as it was in the Golden Text Age, but that is not the case. In fact in the smaller provinces of the Land, Mary Sues and Stus can roam freely with their…controlling authors. I’m sure we could all agree that everyone wishes to live happily with such creations, but the Creed of the Land was created for a reason.”
He rested his thick chin on the back of his hand. “There are, most despairingly, individuals who are only able to enjoy themselves at the cost of others, in the case of the harshness on Sues and Stus, I can assure you, the strictness isn’t out of malice,” the Judge asserted despite how his tone suggested otherwise.
“During the Great Drafting, almost all of the Mary Sues and Gary Stus ended up ravaging the Land because of the sheer imbalance and epic conflicts their characters created, add to the fact their controlling authors did not know how to control them and placed them inappropriately all over the Land, the Land could have very well been destroyed for good! This is why your support of Mary Sues and Gary Stus is so…unsettling Kanius.”

Kainus nodded solemnly, taking in the judge's words and analyzing them. He wasn’t necessarily convinced of the situation, but this was a plane of existence that he may have had little understanding to. He had a limited idea of what fruit his actions would bear in this world, regardless though, he was determined not to go out looking like the bad guy.
"If I may continue to speak your honor, I do believe that history is not necessarily concrete. As time changes, so do possible outcomes. I have dealt with authors of characters that for quite a time had a stench around them, perhaps some of the most intolerable characters I have ever had to deal with. Merely a year later, I had relations with that person re-established, and to my surprise their characters were in essence wonderful. Not only had the mark of the "stu" been lifted from their newer characters, but their capabilities as an author and role-player had vastly improved to tremendous proportions. I do not exaggerate, nor do I make this up to simply defend my case. This actually happened, as I'm sure it happens to more than one person. I believe that perhaps the existence of such characters to be stepping stones to enlightenment. Some can simply bypass this stone altogether, but many more must take it." Kainus stopped for a moment, shaking his head.
"I'm afraid that this ‘infestation’ is something permanent that will haunt your land to the end of time. No matter what actions are taken. I do not believe such populations will increase, but they can never be truly removed. They however can evolve, change, and become shining beacons in your reality. It may be somewhat peaceful now, but I'm sure another surge will occur, no matter if I am charged of this crime or not. Being charged with an open idealism will not solve your problem. I believe I have done nothing to increase the droves of Sue's and Stu's into your land. As I stated prior, I take care with my characters to be sure that they do not have such marks on them, and even try to educate others on this, and I have in fact met with some success." Kainus sighed for a moment again, before softening his voice.
"Your honor, what has my idealism done to harm your land?"

The Judge’s frown deepened, though when it had during Kainus’s speech wasn’t certain.
“Do not mistake, we do not mercilessly persecute those that do create them, only the controlling authors that over-create them and are otherwise unable to control them or even in the worse case, bid their characters to act unfairly in or out of the bounds of their stories. The Court believes all of the Land’s citizens can learn for the better, but the matter is not the rate they do so, but their unwillingness to do so which may lead to the less…favorable outcome of these cases.
“You mention one such case that had the fortune of turning out well. Would you be able to name the example you spoke of and perhaps call them to the Court to testify on your behalf? The Court of Balances can easily summon them; we merely require their name and controlling author.”
(Think hard about the Judge’s words.)
