Well its not a real anime, but its close enough. (meaning i didnt know where else to put it, it seems like it would go here since the authors making a manga to go with it.) The fight scenes start off as "meh" in the beginning because its a flash series, but they get better as the series progresses, and the opening gives it that straight from japan feel. The only thing I find wrong with it is that you have to read the dialogue. SMBZ is a crazy mario/sonic crossover that parodies DBZ, in other words it takes the hardcore fighting of DBZ, strips away the retarded storyline (sorry DBZ fans, but i only like it for the fights.) and replaces it with the mario universe, plus a couple sonic characters, and even some of the authors own original.
The below is spoilers, if you do not want the plot spoiled, scroll down to the very bottom of this post
[SPOILERS]
The series is loosely, very lossely, based on the android saga all the way to the cell games, though you can't really tell, the first episode introduces the main bad guy, who is based on perfect cell, the androids have already merged with him in an alternate dimension(as opposed to the past) and is after the chaos emeralds, which replace the dragon balls (oh grow up) (since the bad guys always want to use the dragon balls for some sort of ultimate power, and the emeralds grant unlimted power). Dr. Eggman replaces Dr. Gero, and bowser replaces frieza and the koopalings replace the ginyu force (guess). The star spirits from paper mario are seemingly replacing kami and Mr. Popo, seeing as how their the guardians of earth and the star spirits are the guardians of the mushroom kingdom, and star haven would replace kami's lookout. Sonic apparently replaces trunks while shadow, vegeta. not sure about mario and luigi, but E.gadd replaces bulma (i think) because hes always creating inventions to help them such as an emerald radar. Episode 1 is about the episode where frieza returns, though theirs no fight, Ep 2is the fight, and apparently the scene where trunks first comes in, but bowser never fights sonic. After that the series goes in its own direction.
In episode 3 , the storyline kicks off, and we meet a few other main characters, such as Mecha Sonic, and Yoshi. This episode contains the first major fight in the series. Episode 4 contains the appearance of an old rival, The Koopa Bros. from paper maro. This battle gets intense, and it appears to be dead even.... until the koopa bros perform there signature attack with a new twist.
Episode 5 is introduces more bad guys in the series, such as the axem rangers X, an enhanced version of the axem rangers from Super Mario RPG. They have enslaved yoshis island, and now it is up to mario and the gang to free them. Episode 6 is an all out action episode, and is the best fight in the series so far. The series takes its biggest turning point in this episode.
Episode 7 is long enough, i would like to call it SMBZ The movie.. Even Though this a spoiler section, i wont spoil much of it. It was a great episode. Its a the best episode plot wise. but action wise, it fails in comparison to episode 6. Regardless, this is still the best episode period.
