Well, this was for an english assignment. Enjoy at will. Comment and discuss or whatever if you want. I'd greatly appreciate it. It's a one-shot story featuring my RP characters in an AU world. Well, the only AU thing is the fate of the heroes
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
James looked at the doorway in front of him. He looked back as he saw Karen appear. She seemed slightly winded from climbing all those stairs. James nodded to her and broke the door down in front of him. He ran into the laboratory room that was through the doorway. James shouted out, “It’s time we ended your experiments! Give up and come out.”
A voice laughed and said, “Why must I end these experiments? I’ve worked just as hard as you have on yours!”
Karen walked into the room and said, “These experiments are inhumane!”
Celeste walked out of the shadows, in front of James and Karen. Smiling, she said, “What makes these experiments of mine so inhumane?”
Karen pointed to a nearby wall, which held down what seemed to be what was left of a person. She said, “You toy around with people’s lives to further your own goals.”
Celeste crossed her arms and said, “As do humans use pigs and rats for their experiments. I just use higher quality animals for better results.”
James exclaimed, “You’re taking the lives of innocent people to further your own ends!”
Celeste said, “What is so wrong with that? It is not as if those people had anything going for them anyway. They sit on the side of the street, begging for money. Everyone should be thankful I am wiping the streets of the surplus population that this world has.”
Karen replied, “You don’t have any right to take the lives of anyone, or judge whether they should live or not!”
Celeste replied angrily, “Then who does? If I am not fit enough to clean up this world of the filth, then no one else does. Both of you know as well as I do that there is only a select few in this world just like us.”
Karen replied angrily, “That doesn’t mean we have extra authority to make choices that others cannot! Whether we are special or not, doesn’t mean we have the right to make choices for the people who aren’t like us!”
Celeste smiled and simply asked, “And why not?”
Karen replied, “Because it is wrong.”
Celeste laughed and said, “Why do you think what I am doing is wrong? To me, it seems I am doing nothing wrong.”
James said, “Because you’re breaking laws that define what is life and how to further benefit it. Those who disregard life and the rules that govern it must be stopped.”
Celeste replied, “You’re thinking too much into this. Law is nothing more than morality in the creator’s point of view. The laws that you are following are simply guidelines set by one person’s point of view. There is no absolute morality, so these laws you are following are nothing more than comforters to the ignorant society who know nothing about what goes on around them.”
Karen harshly replied, “Morality doesn’t take a point into this! Regardless of whose point of view it is, there must be cooperation among people to prevent any form of chaos from ensuing. There must be some form of authority that keeps people from victimizing others without a second thought!”
Celeste replied, “A society under a firm and unquestionable leader shall be progressed! Cooperation might be eliminated or it might not, but with one person in rule, it will be simply one person’s point of view that everyone adapts. Once everyone adapts this point of view, I could possibly say that morality may possibly start to exist. Only when everyone can see from the same point of view can one see what is correct and what needs to be fixed.”
Silence rang throughout the room as Celeste finished her statement. She paused for a minute, watching James and Karen struggle to find a response to her statement. Feeling the momentum rolling in her favor, she continued, “If laws did exist, as you claim they do, they cannot be based on an absolute morality. Nothing in this universe is absolute. Without this concrete base to hold to, the views of right and wrong are purely subjective, and are relative to each person’s point of view.”
James frowned and replied, “Your view is based on the fact that rules, laws, and life itself is based upon an absolute morality.”
Celeste replied, “Naturally. Without something absolute, something cannot stand. A castle built in a swamp will only sink. It needs a solid foundation with which to be built upon.”
James replied in a confident voice, “That is where you’re wrong. Life is not about absolute morality. Good and evil are relative, just as you said. They are concepts that people must define by themselves. That is what makes them relative. However, at the most basic level, a person’s life is here to improve the quality of their life and the lives of those around them. To live under a dictatorship such as yours cannot happen.”
Celeste inquired with interest, “How would that be possible?”
James said, “To be oppressed into being forced into one point of view that is not theirs cannot be beneficial. Society cannot improve each other if everyone thinks the same as each other. Society would not benefit faster as you claim. It would only stunt the growth of society in certain areas.”
Celeste replied, “It is an interesting point, but you fail to realize something. Perfect on paper… but then again, so was the concepts of communism and capitalism. Now look at how everything has ended up in the world. Humans are inherently evil. You seem to think that in a society with dissenting view, people will look out for each other. In a society such as that, the majority of the population will be selfish and think only of themselves.”
James said, “You said it yourself. People like us are special. We should be using the talents we have to show others that what they are doing is wrong. To help the world.”
Celeste laughed and replied, “And who will believe us? This world is already messed as is. The younger generation is being pampered by all the rules that remove anything harmful. The no-bullying policies that these schools have is just the beginning. Remember how our high school was? You were so bored of that whole school. Classes were so easy that you skipped school, so you could study more advanced courses online at home!
“Seniors in high school could not type with proper grammar. Juniors didn’t know how to diagram sentences. Sophomores couldn’t type an essay without using first person. Freshmen couldn’t figure out basic algebra. People ending sentences in prepositions. Grammar is being torn apart by the linguistics of people in certain towns. This is the peak of decadence for our society. There is no golden age for us. We are spiraling down in a destructive decline.”
James said, “That still does not give you the right to choose who lives and who dies.”
Celeste said, “Why does it not? Did Darwin not talk about survival of the fittest? We have powers that others do not. We are more capable of coping and fixing the damage that this generation has caused.”
Karen said, “Intelligence and knowledge isn’t all that makes a great person. There’s more to a person than just knowing how to program a computer and type a book in twenty minutes. Some of those people you look down upon share bonds of friendship with each other. Sure, they may not be the most intelligent people, and they may not be perfect in your view, but they have a connection to each other. They may not have a way, but they have a will to improve society for them and their friends! Together, we could fix the world. Together, we can do things faster than if just us three did it alone.”
Celeste replied in a bored tone, “And it is these alliances that caused wars. Alliances of friendship caused wars such as the first world war. Groups of friends will have opinions that dissent. It is also human nature to be the best. It will eventually become an ego trip.”
James said, “And that is where we are to step in. We will prevent wars.”
Celeste said, “Tell that to my creations and my clones.”
James said, “What do you mean?”
Celeste merely replied, “This discussion has now started to bore me. I think it’s time I showed you what I really do here.”
As she spoke, two perfect clones of Celeste walked out from the shadows behind her. She said, “This, my friends, is the fruit of great research and labor.”
She pointed to a wall, which contained many different containers and vials of liquids. She said, “Chemicals of many different kinds, most of which I created myself. Various types of poisons I created myself, bodily enhancements, and even preparations to perform actions such as cloning. These are experiments that I have not only done to others, but as I have done to myself.”
James said, “What have you been doing here?”
Two strangely shaped creatures stood at the doorway James and Karen had entered through. Celeste said, “Only doing what the dear scientists who created my sister left off. I, as well as all of my clones, have created these creatures from scratch, using our knowledge of DNA and proteins. We created them, strand for strand, and nucleotide for nucleotide. We even added two new base pairs to the mix, giving them an edge over my previous creations.”
James said, “Why…?”
Celeste said, “I shall start a new world of prosperity, and destroy everything that is not special like us. I will repopulate the planet with many people who have special powers, and they can decide for whether they are for good and what are for evil. Furthermore, do not forget one small thing. Being special is also relative. Once everyone is special and no one is normal, then everyone will be normal. No more discrimination for everyone being different, because since everyone came from the same parent, it shall be done.
“I shall purge this planet of every living human creature in existence, and create my very own male from the DNA. Together, we can fill out this planet with a superior mind and superior DNA. That way, everyone is special. So, when everyone is special… no one will be special.”
James closed his eyes, and fell to the ground. Those were the last words he heard, as he inhaled the poisoned gas that had slowly leaked into the room.
