So my OS sh*tted on itself and decided to corrupt one of its startup files...and it couldn't have done so at a better time. [/sarcasm]
So here's the deal. I got my computer sometime around...three and a half years ago or so as a sort of early-graduation/Christmas/"hope you get well soon from having your stomach filleted" gift, and it ran swimmingly for that entire time; I've rarely (very rarely) had any error that wasn't caused by my own random stupidity or inattentiveness, which is an impressive amount of time for a PC to run error-free, to be sure. Suddenly about 7-10 days ago or so (maybe a couple days more), my \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\vgamon.fon disappeared...or was corrupted...or something. No big deal really, I can just pop in my backup/setup disk and replace the missing/corrupted file, right?
Well, no one told be 3.5 years ago that I needed to make one, and Dell, being the (#$%&) nuts that they are didn't include the disk with the computer they shipped me. What's more, I haven't backed-up my documents and such in about a year, something I was planning on doing again, well, pretty much right when the OS broke, so there's no way in all hell I'm going to do as Indian tech-support asks and "reformat" everything.
Local tech gurus are no help either; they won't do it without the disk and a data backup (just in case)...though if I had either I would simply run through the motions myself and I WOULDN'T BE IN THIS PREDICAMENT. -_-
Oh right, some info...I was running Windows XP MCE 2005 on a Dell Inspirion 6000. I'd access my partition on the HD where all the setup files are, but, I don't have that option at startup; funny thing is, even though the partition is there, my computer was, apparently, manufactured before that option was available and implemented. Smart thinking, Dell!
So what I'm asking is, anyone know where I could get Windows XP MCE 2005 setup data, and make my own ****ing disk? I'd prefer not to pay for what should have been shipped to me in the first place, like I know Dell or Microsoft will try to make me do...I also don't want to wait 2 weeks for their cheap shipping. Legal, illegal, I really don't care anymore; I simply need something that'll at least make it possible for me to pull all my data to my external, and go on with my life...
