In a world not far removed from our own, tensions are escalating as different peoples' differences become more pronounced.
Once a world of peace, the advancements of technology promised a new age of prosperity and abundance, and great leaps in artificial intelligence made nanotechnology not only widely available, but infinitely convenient. However, the scientific possibilities and advancements were hoarded by massive coalitions which aimed to capitalize on it, and keep the rest of humanity dragging behind in what technologies they chose to distribute, at whatever prices they desired.
Halfway across the globe, a large committee of scientists successfully opened an dimensional gate to another world, whose inhabitants followed a different social progress, mainly due to the fact that they depended on magic. The otherworldly beings agreed to bring their knowledge of magic into the world, and thus establishing the Magic Empire.
At the same time, a sacred ground, maintained by the last remnants of an ancient religion, became a sanctuary to those who feared that which was to come. From all over the world, people seeking divine help arrived in hopes of divine intervention. Prayers commenced, and the ground was fortified against what their sacred texts described as the upcoming final battle.
Soon tensions turned into hostilities, and the factions of technology and magic met in the fields of battle. The devastation and losses was at a scale never recorded in history, and the survivors of the battle found themselves changed, in both good ways and bad, and were cast out of their homes due to their "corruption." They established their own domain in a remote island, with regular reconnaissance missions to gather more of those they deemed "superior" to the average humans.
Mourning the loss of his lifetime friends and comrades, a lone soldier turned his back on the conflict, taking over the experimental Space Goliath orbiting the planet. During the following months, all orbital weapons and spy satellites were shot down or disappeared. The world paused to question the Goliath crew's loyalty, which lead only to a new barrage of accusations and hostilities. Great War II was starting.
The faithful watch from their temples.
The transformed watch from their island.
Goliath watches from the sky.
The silence will end soon.
Rules:
1-Setup: Participants will start off within the Goliath Space Station, and will be "deployed" to different locations in the world, and each will have to confront enemy forces of sorts. As the story proceeds, new elements will be introduced depending on the overall actions of the participants.
2-Death: Anyone who joins can and will be killed if a ruthless enemy gets their hands on the character. Using cheap twists to escape death is not allowed. In some cases characters could be brought back to life, but in some rare cases they would returned as different entities.
3-Power: Anyone is allowed, so long as their power isn't at a level in which they can destroy an entire city and/or blow an entire battlefield apart. This is a story that requires intelligence, and not a place for players to compete in whose characters have the biggest ... (should I say it?)
Aside from that, enjoy.
I reserve the right to alter the rules, either partially or entirely, applying to this story.
