Deciding that the old man was senile, the Shadow Ranger attempted to ignore him and walk on in. Right into an invisible barrier erected by the "senile" old man's magic. To this the old man responded by laughing and saying, " I told you so."

*Information Area* Using your soul as the power source? Interesting - surely hope they don't have a method of looking at a person's soul. Mine is undamaged by magic, maybe a bit strengthened by the magic that keeps me from aging. John thought as the man spoke.
"May I borrow the Theories of Advanced Magic book for a moment to skim over a few sections?" John asked after listening to Garam's basic magic lesson - which was just to accustom himself to native magic - which apparently was far below his level of magic.
Elemental magic; honestly, they must have other magic. I haven't been restricted to just that for quite a while. Otherwise, I'm going to have to hide a lot of my magic usage, much like I do on Earth.

*Commander's Building*
The ranger let out a growl of frustration, and in one motion, wheeled around, unhooked one of the blades and sent it hurling at the old man. If his aim were true, it would go on around, pulling the chain with it, which would then wrap around the codger's neck, and with a yank, he'd drag the old man out of his chair and up before him.

Cylox tapped the yellow bar on his right hip. "Whatever this means. I'm just here to fight, end of story." He turned around to find another target when it occured to him the man was being nosy. "What's it to you anyway?"

*Information Area* Garam snorted at the suggestion. “ You just asked about basic magic and now you want to step up to advanced? Hardly. If anything you’d want to take a look at ‘Ronals’ Complete Guide to Magic’ and before you ask, no I don’t have a copy. But I do think Sarem has one with her.” He said pointing to the woman who Kevin C. Jakerton was still with. She was playing with the child as Kevin was busy writing something.
“She’s an illusionist. She’s was speaking with me some time ago about teaching her boy real magic when he comes of age. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind letting your read through it. Just watch yourself around her. You don’t want to get too friendly with her kind.” His voiced ended off in a whisper.
------------------------------------------
*Commanders Building*
The weapon struck another invisible wall; the sound of metal on metal rang out. The other commanders watching laughed at Jeff’s attack, knowing so much more then he at the moment. Unaffected by the attack the old man rambled on, in a slow and steady voice once more.
“Ya know, listenin helps a fella when he doesn’t know all he thinks he does. Why just listen and look and he’ll know all he needs. Like that Mala fella I was telling you about. Ya know, the one that made that big-ol dragon and those knights fight. Well he made a house disappear once. Could see and hear the people on the otherside just as clear as day. You could even walk into where they house had been. Ya got a heavy sort of feeling from what used to be there. Well that sold me, I had to learn from him but he wouldn’t teach no one.”
I later kept on bugging Mala one day, eventually all the other guys joined in too, ‘til he broke. Being the nice guy he was, he showed all us young ones how to make something disappear, like he did with that house that one time. Beautiful house it was too, he made it come back too. He had them people in such a fit”.
Anyhow, none of us could do the darn spell at the time. We just didn’t understand the spell. We thought he was just being mean. But, I’ll tell ya what he really did. That man used a triple illusion! Man, I tell you he was one smart fella. One spell to make an object invisible, one to make sound go on through it, and one to...well that made it into an something like air. That way you couldn’t touch it but it was still there. No one’s been able to do that last part so most people now-a-days just use those first two together. It’s a nice lil trick and works wonders on hot-headed folks looking to go where they aren’t needed.
Why back in my day we didn’t barge on in when elders where talking, giving out valuable knowledge. We sat, and we listened. Humph, you sure are a pushy young fella. Uh-huh. And your big shiny armor ain’t helping no one, not even yourself. Remer’s priests will eat through your can of tin like a hot knife through butter. Why I tell you -” and he was rambling on once more about armors and knights.

(Cylox should have a red piece of metal.)
The big man reached in his pocket and then held out his hand to show a piece of metal the same color as Cylox's. “Just thinking it would be good to have a strong fellow like yourself in my section. I’m looking for Section 1 to be the biggest and best there is. Name’s Alex, you?”He put his piece of metal back in his pocket after Cylox had time to look at it.

John barely managed to contain a laugh, since he was used to working with advanced magic.
Illusionist? That is much better. But real magic? John shifted his weight slightly, before posing his next question, "What do you mean by that?"

"Qualon save me!" Garam groaned. "Illusion is nothing but smoke and mirrors. It doesn't actually deal with altering anything, that power is only reserved for gods. She is able to create illusions, things aren't always what they seem with her. Just don't get to firendly, there is always atleast one snake in the grasslands."

John couldn't hold back laughter now, "If she is just an illusionist, and that is the whole reason for you to tell others to not be friendly to her - then I've nothing to fear of her. Magical deception of the senses is not something to be feared - respected, yes, but not feared. As illusions pale in comparison to the real, on how they effect the living; much greater control is needed for them to truly be effective both on and off a battle field."
With that he spun around and stalked off from Garam, heading over to both Kevin and Sarem. Least I now know what they would consider my magic to be should they find out.
Before he got there, he softened his steps bringing his irritation back under control. "Sorry to interrupt anything," John says as he steps beside Sarem at Kevin's desk, his hair yet again in his eyes. "But I have a few questions for both of you, to be honest."

(My bad... Dunno why I said yellow...)
Cylox looked up to the man with general disdain, but this slowly softened into a smile as he came up with several things to provoke the man into a fight. "A class-A brown noser. you don't find those very often where I'm from." He laughed at the man. "Damn straight I'm strong. I'd be surprised if I couldn't take out this whole division. And my name's Cylox. Just Cylox."

“The deadliest things are those you don’t see. “ Garam spoke after John but he knew he wouldn’t hear him. He just smirked and went back to looking over his books.

*Kevin & Sarem’s Table*
“Oh?” Kevin said, glancing up from his writing. “Well we’ll be glad to help you anyway we can. Right honey?” He smiled to the woman. She turned to look at John.
She had the bone structure of a goddess and her luscious black hair gleamed slightly in the high sun’s light. The light likewise highlighted her emerald eyes that held so much depth and knowledge that one would likely drown in it. Her skin was a nice middle ground between tanned and her natural skin color. “Of course. I hope we can be of assistance. “ She smiled a perfect smile and her voice flowed out beautifully.

The man let loose another hearty laugh. “A little cocky but having attitude is good. I think between me, you, and Bob over there, this thing is going be easy." He tossed his thumb back towards a mage that just exploded a dummy with a flick of his hand.
"I was beginning to lose hope in our section with all the others I’ve seen. I tell you, they’re a bunch of little punks. Anyway, were you from?”

*Kevin's and Sarem's Desk*
John took in both of their features as they greeted him, carefully evaluating them as he soaked in their appearance and actions. She is beautiful - very wonderfully graced. By the sound of her voice and talking... She might have a silver tongue. But both of them seem to sound as if they are well gifted with social graces.
When John spook, his voice was far leveler than it had been before - more calm, more controlled, "I need to know the local rules governing the use of magic within the city here. And also, I heard something that piqued my interest, I heard that you were intending to teach your baby real magic when he was old enough. I believe they mean illusion magic, am I correct?"

"Alaska. United States. Earth." He found another dummy to wail on, assuming that the man would follow him. "You probably have no idea where that is. I'm from very far away from here."

*Commander's Building*
With a growl of frustration, the Shadow Ranger reached down to unholster a weapon that would be entirely alien to them - his dragon blaster, which, unlike the pistol variants of the others back home, was designed after a sub-machine gun. At first, it looked like he would aim it at the old man, but he spun quickly and fired it randomly at the other commanding officers in the room. He would show this arrogant old man why you didn't play games with the Shadow Dragon Ranger.

*Kevin and Sarem’s Table*
Sarem looked to Kevin as John asked about the baby and real magic. Kevin caught the glance and it was like an unseen message had been passed, one that made Kevin scowl for an instant. The transaction was over in less than a second.
“I think you’re mistaken, sir.” Sarem said, her eyes looking to John’s once more. “Illusion magic is not real magic as it doesn’t do anything but mislead. What “they” mean is magic like creating fireballs and the like.” She shifted the baby to one hand and held the other to the side. A twitch of her fingers called a ball of flames to appear inches above her hand. It came to life as just one flame and then formed into a ball with flames floating upwards a few inches.
“Illusion cannot create nor control, only misdirect and confuse.” And with that the fire extinguished itself and she held the baby with both hands once more. She made a kissy face to the child that made it smile. “As for me teaching my child it, I have no idea what you mean. Abel has already been chosen to become a knight of the Goddess. “
“That’s right.” Kevin came in with a smile. “As soon as he’s 9 years of age, he’ll be ready to join up. As for those rules, they don’t apply here. This place is controlled by Carrie and as long as you do not direct harmful magic towards others, it’s fine to use. “
*Training Area*
“Uh-huh.”, said the big man. His face betraying the thought that Cylox might be crazy. “Anyway, have you heard about the event later on? They say it might be a challenge. The winners get to rank up and be a part of a new section. They are only rumors at the moment but who knows what could happen, right?”
*Commander’s Building*
The shots also were blocked by the barrier. It seemed that the whole opening was blocked by it.
“What in Qualon’s name do ya think ya doing, boy? “ The old man was getting visibly irritated with Jeff’s actions. “If you want to die, we can surely arrange that for you.”

*Kevin and Sarem's Desk*
John watched them as they communicated nonverbally. So he figured that something was left out of what they said, or they were keeping a secret. "Elemental magic. Illusions are sometimes more useful though. Not that I'm one for using illusion magic for anything. But as for defensive magic, they are free game?"
"Knight of the Goddess?" John sifted uneasily in place, I assume that is a very good honor.
