(Ninmy. The old man could teleport out if he knew the spell but he doesn’t. He does know how to levitate and other ways of dealing with Jeff from inside the box. There’s a reason he was picked as a guard … )
*Kevin and Sarem’s Table*
Sarem smiled as if interested in John. It was a genuine smile, or so it appeared.
“You shouldn’t need to defend yourself here but sure.” Kevin answered the first part. “And yes, he was given the honor by Carrie when we signed up; I think she has a soft spot for children.” He let out a small laugh and looked to Abel, happiness evident in his eyes.

(Not the old man, Jeff. But since you said that, I'm going to assume he can.)
*Command Center*
There was a brief growl of annoyance, but in a sudden flash of black lightning, he was no longer in the invisible box, and the press of the still-hot barrel came against the back of the old man's head. "Were it not for the fact you are supposed to be on my side, you would now be dead," the Shadow Ranger told the old man. "I'm done playing with you. I was sent to speak with Carrie. I'm going to speak with Carrie. You're going to let me through this time. Okay?"

John nodded slightly, "Just thought I should ask - since I do have a few little things I am somewhat good at. So I thought I should ask first. Before I forget, what do you think of what might be out there? Outside of this planet I mean." Just to see if they believe in a multiverse. And other worlds... Or if they think they are the only ones.
John's eyes focused on Abel, before he started speaking again, "But as one of her selected knights, what privileges and duties will rest on his shoulders?"

*Commander’s Building*
The old man sighed and spoke as he stood up and turned to Jeff.
“I should have just killed ya for not listening. Oh well…I guess I can show ya to Carrie. Though I doubt she is going to let you live either.”
And then he just vanished. A moment later a voice came from behind Jeff.
“Come on boy! We ain’t got all day. Think you haven’t seen an illusion before.” The last part was more of a mumble to himself than Jeff. The old man was standing on the middle of three steps that lead into an older building. Some of the other commanders smirking at Jeff’s antics, some were clapping at the performance, and the others just didn’t care.

*Kevin and Sarem’s Table*
“The sun, moon, and stars…” Kevin answered with a confused look.
Before John could get a good look at Abel, something moved and twinkled in his peripheral vision and it was accompanied by a strong, yet subtle instinctive feeling that he should look at it. It was only natural, right? It turned out to be a soldier walking by.
Sarem casually pulled her baby closer in her arms, snuggling it closer, hiding its face. This happened a second after the feeling, movement, and sparkle of light in his peripheral. She spoke to John as she did this, bringing his attention back to her.
“He will serve as one of the highest knights of the new order of the goddess. He is there to protect the city or town the goddess chooses as her home and will be treated as a king while he does. It is one of the highest honors.”

*Command Center*
The Shadow Ranger ignored the other Commanders, both those applauding and those laughing. They were unimportant. If he were to have to deal with them, it would be done later. If necessary, he would show them. For now, he turned on his heel and followed after the old man, not hesitating even at the man's warning.

The old man led Jeff into an empty room with a high ceiling. It was about ten paces across to a hallway with a rich red carpet. The tilled floor was cracked and uneven and what fixtures had been in the area were destroyed. There was broken porcelain lying around here and there.
A commander stood in the entrance of the hallway but at the sight of the old man he just smiled and stepped aside. The hallway was about twenty paces long and enough for two people to walk abreast. The walls were unremarkable and were dollishly off-white.
The hallway emptied them into a grand, circular ballroom with twin staircases that lead up to a platform where the general and Carrie were currently holding a conversation. The floors were polished so much so that you could see your reflection. Beautiful paintings lay on the same off-white walls that depicted various different places, each grand and beautiful.
The general noticed their presence and with a look acknowledged them. She then went back to conversing with Carrie. The old man stopped, turned to Jeff, and said, “Now we wait.”

What might have been surprising to the old man was that Jeff had no problem doing exactly that. The Shadow Ranger stood with feet spread at shoulder width and his gauntleted hands clasped behind his back. The difference between waiting here and waiting back where the man was, however, was that here, it was supposed to happen. It was just a matter of time before he found battle one way or another. Back there, it was just an old man running his jaw, or such was the impression he had.

John looks back at her, a soft smile on his face right before he started talking, Magic. "I see. I guess the two of you are very happy for Abel." He quickly diverted his eyes towards Kevin though.
"Nothing else? Nothing beyond the here and now? Nothing out there, living under other stars?" John turned towards Kevin, though his eyes shifted back to Abel under the protection of his hair. "See, I'm a bit of an artist - and I enjoy thinking of what might be out there, and learning other people's thoughts about it."

*Kevin and Sarem’s table* Sarem smiled and nodded, as the answer for the first question.
The question aimed at Kevin produced a weak smile from him. “Fantasies are great an all but remember, in the end, Qualon only created us. Don’t get lost in the fantasy; I’ve seen a few go mad living in their fantasy world.”

*Commanders Building*
The old man paid no attention to Jeff, he really didn’t seem to care.
And they waited. Carrie and Ashal talked for about five minute more before Ashal appeared and descended the stairs towards them. Carrie stayed in the back organizing maps and finalizing details.
“Ah, Mala, I see you’re wearing your old man guise, a favorite as ever.” Ashal greeted the commander. Her voice was solid and commanding, her posture perfect and solid. She carried the presence of a general well.
Mala shrugged and the guise fell off of him like sand. He heaved a sigh of premature exhaustion; the prolonged illusion seemed to take a hefty price, dispelling it did so as well. The young man, about twenty by Earth standards, had light brown hair and stood close to the same height as the old man. He was lean and muscular much like Ashal but his muscles were more defined. His eyes were the same as when he was an old man.
“That it is. Have you two made headway on the opening attack?” Mala spoke in his usual voice. It was that of a person with a noble bearing, one also sounding accustomed to military talk.
“Yes, we plan to hit them in two days time; I’ll go over the details later. Who is this, you know foot soldiers are not allowed in, they always seem to get on my nerve.”
“Oh yeah, he wanted to see Carrie. He also doesn’t like to take no for an answer. He seems really determined too, he tried to attack the others as well as myself. You should have seen it, a real nice performance. He should be an entertainer.” Mala ended with a chuckle.
“I see.” Ashal said with a look that said she didn’t like Jeff already. She turned her head to Jeff, addressing him in a stern voice. “What is your name, section, and purpose soldier?”

*Command Center*
"Jeffery, Shadow Dragon Ranger. Section Three-Yellow. My purpose is to destroy." The answers he gave were almost military in their own right, delivered without care for whether or not the woman liked them. They were what they were, and he would not cover them. He also said no more, since she had not asked for it.

John laughed lightly, "Never once got lost in my own fantasies. In an illusion - a few times. But my great aunt was crafty in her old age, and I had just turned 13 at the time, and that was a while ago." John of course, wasn't aware of the timing difference for years - so the fact that he looked about 26 or 27 in human years, might confuse them more than a little.
John of course, had assumed that when Abel joined at the age of 9, it was to be the start of his training under the goddess's people - not his joining as a new adult.

*Command Center* (xD, I understand the pun!)
Mala snickered at his answer but straightened quickly with a look from Ashal.
“What business do you have with Carrie and why did you ignore your superior officer when told you cannot come inside?” Ashal gestured to Mala, her voice was still stern and commanding. She looked Jeff up and down and found his armor…amusing, though her face did not show it.
Meanwhile Carrie came to lean on the railing to watch, obviously done with what she was doing.
*Sarem and Kevin’s table*
Since he did look about fifth teen by Qualon standards they didn’t question it. Kevin already suspected he wasn’t altogether there, mentally wise.
“Interesting tale.”Sarem said slowly with a smile.
“Is there anything else you want to ask?” Kevin followed.

*Training Field*
"I can only hope it is more than a rumor." He ripped apart another dummy with even more ease than before. "I'd like to get a little easy rank when they're handing it out like that. I just hope everyone's smart enough to quit when they are behind. I'm not exactly a merciful fighter." He clamped his mouth shut almost like he was afraid to say any more. "But I'll have to wait until the time comes won't I?"
[Sorry for the delay... My computer has been tempermental with this thread.]

*Kevin and Sarem's Desk*
"Nothing I can think of at the moment. Unless you have some interesting rumors about some of the spells you've seen used?" John says with a slight smile on his face. Probably think I'm loony. Not that I can really blame them - since I am not from this world.
