I'm not sure, but I think many people instill qualites of themselves into their characters. It's mostly when your just starting out. It makes the characters easier to relate to and control. So, I took a look at my Hero Quad Squad, to see what aspects of myself stick out most in them. I then took the one that resembled me the most. I'll let you know what I got after you guise post yours.
So answer the questions:
-----------------
Which of your characters resembles you most?
and
Which qualities of yourself do you see in your most used ones?
-------------------
P.S: I have no idea if this is the right section, there are too many darned sections to tell. Move if needed, please. ^^

My characters tend to all reflect either a quality I've found in myself, qualities I've seen in people I know and/or famous figures from the global world theater (real or fictional).
I think if there's one quality most of my characters have, it's the subtlety and misdirection they use in their attempts to pursue their objectives. After all, if you don't know what they really want, you can't stop them.

Hmmm, vaguely this:
Roslin = opposite of how I would actually behave. Supposedly the "ideal hard-worker" that I'm not anymore. I'd say bits of my elementary school personality. Jack Graves* = my perspective on my own art-studying. Skull King = Basically a bundle up of all grudges/RAGE and acting on them TO THE EXTREME. Gen = I suppose she draws from my rare instances of being very fake as well as my perfectionism when it comes to certain things. Vintage* = Inner child lol? Idealism/optimism for sure (back when I was younger). Ivan* = Pretty much the closest to how I act, let's just say if *I* had magical shadow/light powers, without a doubt I would pull all the shit he does. There are some differences in behavior though, but I'll let you figure out what that/those is/are. Dantalion = Deviation of "artist," (higher demons = more skilled artists), as for the "evil" part of Dantalion, hm, I guess my passive-aggression is apparent in that.
I like using Ivan and Jack, Ivan because he's fun and Jack because he's amusingly stupid.
* = NOTABLE THOUGHT/INTERNAL ADD.

More like he considers himself to be a master of subtlety and misdirection, though I find his characters to be roughly as subtle as a freight train and about as skilled at misleading as a big, neon sign. No offense, Strat, it's just not there, sorry. The character of mine that resembles me the most personality-wise is Star. As one of my most-used characters, I see in her my arrogance, my confidence, my temper and my concern for others.

I don't have too many characters, but here goes: -Levi -- represents me at my best (levelheaded, friendly, sociable, urbane); also, he represents my Southern heritage -Tate -- represents me at my worst (headstrong, belligerent, lazy) -Azariah -- the opposite of my personality (timid, socially awkward, emotional) -Bird Girl -- the closest thing to my physical appearance (?)
I suppose the explanation for why the two main sides of my personality are male is that I've always been a tomboy. I'm not really emotional like a lot of women and I'm strictly anti-drama, which seems to be a male quality more often than not.
I don't make fan characters based off of my own personality as much as I try to base them on a canon character or a combination of canon characters.

Hmm, my two primary characters, Veros and Chris are both facets of me. My others, more or less so. Alex for example, I mean, UGH. Way to rigid in his thinking. Playing him feels like being in a box. Then again, it plays off a trait of mine. I do have a tendency to occasionally obsessively work, or deal with a subject... But takes it to an extreme.
Chris holds a deal of my feminist side, along with my generally relaxed side coupled with concern over my friends, and a bit of my habit of studying tangents of things at hand. He also has a trait I used to have.
Veros on the other hand, I can play almost completely from my own cocky side - which most everyone here has probably seen ATLEAST once. With it is also my anger issues, and a few of my quirks. Namely my pyromania, use of obsessive flash in performing a task instead of a simpler way. He also has my tendency to flicker over a number of subjects, and getting easily bored or distracted.

Interesting thread, most certainly a topic I'm interested in. Most of my characters aren't directly connected to me...directly. There are quite a few connections under the surface. I love analyzing them haha. Anyway, here's a mini-list of the characters of mine I find most relevant to me (you'll find that a great deal of them have a similar theme of entrapment) :
-Velia: Sort of an aggregate of the negative experiences I've had in my life/how I used to be a few years ago. Oppressed and confined to a room for most of her life, naive and far too trusting, corrupted and tricked into loving someone who ended up being terrible for her, afraid to break away from rules for fear of the consequences. Once separated from the person she supposedly loved, found it difficult to truly sever the connections to him. Also plays the viola and adores music--a direct reference to me.
-Viviette: The closest thing to "me" you'll find. I modeled her after me, save the psychological problems lol. Kind, shy around new people but easy to talk to once she opens up. Likes helping people. Easily exhausted, puts off problems, adores music (again), has the ability to manipulate ice and create illusions, probably a direct nod to my need to project certain images of myself on different people/keep a good reputation. Usually laid-back...except when stress gets to her. Her psychological problems--sedatephobia (fear of silence) and hallucinations--probably have something to do with my fear of being unheard. She's also a talented artist, so I guess my art self is in there too.
-Circe: An aggregate of all of my anger and other negative emotions or what I view as sins. Also includes some degree of my self-confidence problems. Constantly angry and constantly desiring to hurt people, she takes pleasure from the pain of others and usually goes overboard with this need. To some extent, though, she is the kind of person I want to be--powerful, in-control, unafraid. Has the ability to cause sensory illusions, that is, make people feel things that aren't actually there--again, a nod to control issues. Also embodies my temper problems.
-Kagetsuki: Another sort of what-I-want-to-be character. Very in-control of her life, listened to, unafraid to rebel. Has issues with higher powers, a reference to my own issues with my parents. Clever, intelligent, powerful.
-Miroir: A little how I used to be lol. Her constant smile relates to how I used to try to keep a smile on no matter how I felt. Also obeys a Master blindly--how I used to act with my parents. Still, she's usually very kind.
Umm...that's all I can think of right now. I guess that's pretty dark. D:

Some of my characters are based off of me, other people, other characters in all forms of media, and just random ideas.
Black Diamond- Entirely based off a Sim and paint on lettex suits/clothes.
Earth Monk- he is based off myself in what I call stone or iron monk form. He is also based off the monk in FF Tactics. Blood Bunny- is a friend of mine in crazy psycho blood thirsty assassin form.
Captain So Called Evil-........... Spectral, there I admitted it.
Crispy- is based off an old friend by the same alias and first name and first initial. Biggest difference is that I made him older (Because I haven't talked to in over 10 years), slimier (I've seen him back in high school but I didn't have a chance to talk to him), taller, and a hell of a lot eviler (he was a pathafist).
Depressor (Steve Lorenzo Green)- The Emo boy who can't off himself because he is immortal. I found the concept funny as hell and went with it. Also he is partly based it off someone from my one and only time I played DnD whose character became Emo.
El Wray, Modern Swordsmen- El Wray is based off myself in superhero form and my gaia avatar even the gwee from my avatar on gaia got made into a character. In a world of super heroes and assassin, he comes from no where and he has no real powers of his own. Doing so made him more relate-able to me and I think it fits well.
Erik the Mailman- the "E" in EJP stand for Erik (my real name). So is it hard to believe that Erik the mailman is the, "This is how I would be if I was a mailman"? Original made to fit into the all my hellions humor RP as the crazy mail man, he has since been adapted to fit a serious roll if need be.
Emma "Ivy" Valenza (Naruto Character)- is a character MT and I made who is partly based off of MT and her avatar (at the time) on gaia.
Goanna Kasshu (Naruto Character)- Is actualy based off another character of mine who isn't on the EAB. Basically I just modified this character to fit into the Naruto universe.
Googana (Brittany Bright)- just read the profile and you'll see what I based this off of. If you can't figure it out... then you're one of them. Which would really be strange because if you were one of them you wouldn't be on this site...... strange.
Kade the Catgirl- Kade was entirely based off one sexy catgirl picture I saw and photocopied in my mind. Then modified to fit into a super hero roll and dashed with some observations I've made about my cat.
Kit (Naruto character)- Kit was based off of Kasumi from Dead or Alive (The video game), a costume that another character wore in that game, and what your typical female shinobi actually did back in the day. All while being modified to fit in the Naruto universe and adding a few Hentai characteristics to solidifie the modifications.
Leon (Naruto Character)- Leon is party based off of Leon from Leon. Confused? Ok, Leon is based off of Leon from The Professional (Also know as "Leon"). To further confuse you, Leon is also a modified form of Earth Monk. Yep, I based Leon off of a character I already had. That being said, Leon is also based off of myself but not as much as my other characters.
Jonny No Not and Beth the Demon- Beth is based off the female demon in Pawn (I'd have that linked but it contain nudity and Ninmast would ban if I did. GOOGLE IT!) Jonny was actually based off a picture of several air soft guns if you can believe that. Don't ask how I did it but... show me a pic of some guns and I can develop a character around them.
King and Knives- King was originally going to be a lesser form of Tigerwolf or maybe a brother of his. In all actuality, King and Knives were based off of myself (King) and a friend of mine who is no longer a friend because he deals drugs. When first created, the two were written for a short story for my English class in high school. I then saw the movie Sin City and wanted a Sin City RP. I tried to modified the short story to fit into a Sin City like RP, thus creating King and Knives as actual RP characters. King was and I guess is the watered down version of Tigerwolf... but Human and with a past. Since I made these two characters back in High School, they have been changed a little but are still based off myself and my former friend. These two character only seem to work when they are together so I've since decided NOT kill Knives off like I have with other characters of mine based off of real life people.
Mahoro Karver, Mink- Mahoro is primarily based off of Mahoro from Mahoromatic. She is the failed attempted at combing Raven from Teen Titans with Mahoro from Mahoromatic. However she does have some of Abby from NCIS added to her along with the Fable 2 character I used for her actual form. Originally she was going to be very Gothic, but its hard to explain the goth clothes I found for her. I still feel like Mahoro isn't finished to tell you the truth... but I'm glad I ditch the possessed by an demonic rabbit idea. Why a rabbit? There is an old saying, what kind of math are rabbits good at?
Marv Draven (Star Wars Character)- Marv is a combination of Marv from Sin City with John Crichton from Farscape with a history that I got the idea for from watching Roughnecks (That Starship Troopers TV show). All the rest of the ideas for Marv came from KOTOR (One and two) and the dragon (Gwee) in my Gaia avatar. Zip-O was mostly added to make Marv not seem like a big loner.
Quinnaquck Curesezacoatal- I don't even know how I came up with this character. I think I've used him only once... and that RP died rather fast. Then again it was a Humor RP run by Kainus so...
The Bodega Rangers- They are a joke power rangers squad. If you couldn't figure that out from the name ALONE, slap yourself in the face. Oh and I got the idea for them from Ninmast who made Power Ranger RPs that I wanted to enter just to attempt to kill the power rangers with my own characters, but didn't because I'm nice.
Tigerwolf, the King of Assassins- Tigerwolf is me in a heavily modified form. For the longest time Tigerwolf's personality said "he acts like and thinks like me... sorta". He still does by the way. Anytime I'm writing something with him in it, I always do what I would do. I've slowly been changing that and giving Tigerwolf he's own way of thinking, but I always see Tigerwolf as myself. The only thing that isn't me when it comes to Tigerwolf is how he dresses. Tigerwolf wears Jeans, I don't wear jeans. Yet I can't imagine Tigerwolf NOT wearing Jeans. How odd is that? Now then, Tigerwolf was originally based off of 47 from Hitman and Mewtwo from Super Smash Brothers Melee. However his personality has always been my own.
Tiger Claw (Naruto Character)- Tiger Claw is based off a Toy from a really bad kids show back in the mid 1990s. If you knew the show, you'd be able to figure it out since the character from the show is named "Tiger Claw". Not to mention I based most of the appearance of this character off the appearance of the toy. (WARNING! The following contains some amounts of G rated Cheese) The "Skull Crusher" Taijutsu was based off of a move this character did/could do on the show. Like I have it listed in the profile, the move was "Forbidden" and yet he taught the move to a friend of his on show who used said move against him (sending him to the hospital) and they stopped being friends because of it. Eventually these two former friends fought each other where Tiger Claw managed to block this move when his former friend tried to use it on him... again (No more Cheese!). Besides the name, appearance, and the "Skull Crusher" everything else was of my own design.
Vic Silver- Is based off my dad, some things I've learned in all my law enforcement classes, and a character from some game cube game that had Zombies and all sorts of demons and stuff in it that four people could play at once and the character I "picked" had 2 45 caliber pistols and knives as her weapons. Vic Sliver was a redesign of that character with many modifications to make the character unique.
Violeetta Kira Anastasiya (Star Wars)- This entire character was based off a Hentai pic I saw. The only reason I decided for her to be Echani was because the girl in the Hentai pic had white hair.
White Shinobi- is based off of Kasumi from DoA. She was made long before Kit by the way. Although I've been thinking of fusing both characters. I put all that work into making Naruto Characters and now that I'm over that anime and can no longer see me using those character, I think I'll just change them to fit into my super hero and assassins universe.

Wow Ejp, long list O.o. Okay guys, it's great to hear that I'm not the only one to see qualities of myself in my characters.
Now, how do you feel about playing some of these characters?
Like Kagetsuki, how do you feel when you play Miroir? Does it remind you of the way you used to be? Does this make it harder or easier to play as this character than say, Viviette?
ThisOne: Can you make the transition from playing and thinking like Levi to playing and thinking like Tate easily? Or do you find that if you were to do it that some of Levi's qualities would soften or rub off on you playing Tate?
Ninmy: Compare Star to your most seldom used character or one you've pretty much almost fogotten about. What qualities do they have in common and how would you feel having to play that almost forgotten character over Star? Would you be a little bitter with not getting to play Star?
Zandayne, Veros, Ejp : Do you feel an emotional attachment to the characters closest to yourself? How do your emotions for your favorite character differ from the emotion you feel when playing your least played one?

Hahah, it's somewhat a biased question, I have attachment to all my characters because, well, I made them. I end up liking them for different reasons. ONCE AGAIN, WITH A LIST:
Roslin = Unconditional kindness and ability to guide and nurture Jack Graves = Awe for the world, perseverance Skull King = Ambition and prudence Gen = Pride and drive for self-improvement Vintage = Purity and sense of justice Ivan = Freedom and blunt honesty Dantalion = Being able to respect and value superiority, as well as being able to work well with others
Ivan technically has the most RP time on him, and though it is egotistical in many senses, I adore RPing as him, so I look forward to posting as him very often. This is true for almost all of my characters though, so ah well. But if I could only RP ONE character, I would pick him. As for Dantalion, who technically has the least RP time, I don't dislike him but he hasn't gotten an RP to play in yet.

Hm, I've never had trouble keeping in character for each of them, but that's because they're both based so closely on myself. I suppose you could say that Tate is my flaws and Levi is my assets when it comes to personality, so I just have to imagine how I would respond if I was in their situations if I happened to be in a good or bad mood. The two do seem to have similarities, however, like they're both pretty aloof when it comes to the matter of what people think of them, but they express it in different ways so I don't get anything mixed up.
I really have trouble keeping in character for Azariah sometimes because I'm just more outspoken than she is. I yell back when someone yells at me rather than shutting down and crying, for example.

What do you think this says about you as the creator of the characters? Maybe that subtlety and misdirection are what you consider dangerous? I believe that subtlety is key in accomplishing critical goals, especially in the planning phase. We see it all the time, from business operations to student research to parents guiding their children away from bad behavior as they grow up. Granted, the direct approach has its uses, especially in situations where time is short and stakes are high. Subtlety in a major conflict, like the one existing in the world my characters inhabit, requires a cool head and a certain degree of thinking ahead, two qualities I admire above all else. Subtlety and misdirection in the right hands can achieve great things, as long as they take the direct approach at critical moments to catapult their plans forward. People who master the arts of subtlety as well as the efficiency of a direct, decisive move in proper times, has my respect, even if they are against me. That doesn't mean I'll let him have his way. That only means I'll enjoy dealing with him more.
