My internet has been upgrade from dial up to........ something better that has a speed of 3MBPS. While I have been enjoying the internet from home with much joy. I seem to have a problem.
I got a new custom made computer (I've had it for several months now) which I'm not using. Not using because I can't get it to connect to the internet to download the updates and installation software needed for the sound card, video card, and other things. Now it has 2 ether net ports, both of which don't seem to work because when I plug in the cord, I don't get a connection despite the internet working for my old computer. Now when I plug it into one of the ports, there are these 2 lights that light up (One green one yellow), while the other has no lights. I've played around with it and I can't get it to connect, the guy who was hooking up the internet in my house couldn't figure it out either but thats because this internet you just plug into a computer and it starts working.
So does anyone have any ideas as to how to get the connection to work for my new computer? I've tried the connection wizard, scanning for a connection, and trying this thing that has you play around with your IP address. All of those have not worked in the many ways in which I've messed with them.

Yes, and now that you have a faster internet, you won't be sure what to do with all the extra time that is no longer being wasted waiting for that one file to download. That's what happened to me and my friends IRL when we upgraded.
But still, congratz!

The problem, EJP, is that, without drivers, your computer doesn't know what to do with that ethernet port. Your drivers should have come on a disc with the motherboard. If they didn't, you'll have to use your other computer to download the drivers, put them on a portable medium like a flash card or CD-R, then manually move them to the other computer and install them from there.

Ok, where do I go to down said divers for my mother board Ninmast? Is there some sort of code I need to know about? Am I going to have to open up my computer to find said codes if so?

I happened to think, you should run a search with the brand name and the serial number, see if you can find the name of your motherboard that way.

Have you tried RESETTING your IP? Especially if your OS is Microsoft?
*My laptop used to not be able to connect using the cable because I had MANUALLY set the networking to my IP in China. So yeah, try resetting your IP settings and see if that helps.
S/N: WHY SO CUSTOM? And congrats and getting something faster.

Yeah I'm having trouble IDing my motherboard or even Ethernet card for that matter. I'm going to have to get into contact with the guy who built it to find such information.
Zandyne, I tried that already and it Didn't work. Why so custom? Because my dad handled it instead of me and he doesn't know all that much about computers compared to me. He based this design off the same one his friends have.

Nah, all I'll charge is I'll ask him to pay for the parts and, like, fifty bucks to put it all together for him. If he wants to program it then, great. If not, I'll probably ask another fifty for that, and then when he gets it, he'll have all the drivers going, everything working, antivirus up and all that fun stuff. All he has to do is plug it in and turn it on.
