Name: Johannes Malthiesen
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Race: Meta-Human
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Power Level: 5 (Mid-Tier Medium)
Timeline: Modern
Appearance: Johannes stands at a rather diminutive, fair-skinned 5'3", and, though childish in appearance, he does have some muscular tone; he appears fully capable of the acrobatic feats he occasionally performs.
Malthiesen's hair is a rich blond, and is in an almost-constant state of messiness; he keeps it out of his eyes, and washes it often enough, but apparently isn't bothered to do much else.
One Pic Summary
Personality: Johan is, at day's end, a thrill seeker. He feels he has nigh-infinite potential, and believes that all he needs to do is push himself that much farther, that much higher; the teen has since realized that one of the only real ways he can measure his progress is to place himself against others, especially other Metas.
This actually leads him to have a discriminatory attitude against baseline humans; very few of them could ever hope to match his physical aptitude, and his quick wits place him mentally above a fair number of them as well. He is capable of holding civil conversations with them, (and those few baselines that have earned his respect are held in high regard) though most normal humans speaking to him are left with the distinct impression that they are not respected. Put quite simply, he's a racist.
History: Born to what would normally have been a down-on-their-luck Danish household, it was (in his parents' words) a good omen that, after a few fruitless years of trying for a baby, Mrs. Malthiesen became pregnant with Johannes. One might be forgiven for assuming that they showed such love towards their child because, in desperation over this unwanted expense, Mr. Malthiesen decided to play the lotto based on his guess as to what the little boy's birthday was going to be, and ended up winning. So Johan began his life; his parents, eager to use their new-found excess, began by sticking theiraccident boy in the most prestigious of daycares, then the most prestigious of private schools.
The Malthiesens also attempted to further Johan by placing him in various sports; while he displayed a natural athleticism, he would often come home complaining that they were stupid and pointless. As committed as they were to spoiling him though, his parents acquiesced, and so shifted him around from activity to activity, until eventually they caught the boy up watching some rented martial arts movies, more or less captivated. His dad, having rented the videos, recognized that the art being practiced in that particularly movie was called Taekwondo. Noting that their boy had displayed an interest in this particular activity, they immediately signed him up at the local dojo; the delighted Dane focused his efforts, and so was actually able to achieve his black belt within two years(presented on his tenth birthday), though the reaching of that milestone left Johan with no real goal to strive for, and he soon fell back into the quagmire of boredom.
Again, his parents would notice his shifting interests through the videos he watched; this time, they noted that he had become enamored with a fighting dance done by the antagonist that Johan called cap-o-eye-rah; a bit of research by his technophile mother revealed that it was actually called "capoeira"; a bit more research ended up finding that there was actually a Danish school for the Brazilian "Dance of War", and in due time had him enrolled.
However, this particular little diversion enraptured the growing boy. His parents would occasionally receive reports of his vaulting desks, rapping out or occasionally singing out odd rhythms; headstands, back-flips, front-flips, cartwheels; for most of his life, Johan could have been accurately described as distantly quiet: now, he was actually hyperactive; the private school he attended even had him tested for ADD.
What surprised the boy the very most was his rapid growth within the art; he had been told that learning capoeira, especially the acrobatics it is known for, would be something that would be slow and difficult. Instead, he found himself able to perform the moves, often with very little in the way of practice; he was even able to achieve some of the personalization encouraged of its disciples, and even performed at some of the public rodas(circles of people in which capoeira matches are held). A few even commented that, given his age, his rate of growth was almost inhuman.
The most observably inhuman aspects of Johannes Malthiesen would instead be revealed on his 14th birthday, in an episode that began as a mugging and ended with a fully grown man flying through a window, with a broken rib for his troubles. Apparently Johannes Malthiesen, martial arts enthusiast, was a Meta-Human.
His mother, having witnessed the whole incident (serving in this case as the target of the mugging) pulled him out of school about as soon as the story hit the media, and nearly worked herself into a tizzy, as, rather than take the matter as seriously as Mrs. Malthiesen felt it should be taken, Johannes appeared to be having more fun than ever, doing all sorts of little stunts, more than a few of which resulted in some scrapes and bruises.
Mr. Malthiesen, feeling that his son's Meta-Humanity was not something that a parent is expected to go to pieces over, did a bit of research, made a few calls, and ended up setting up a flight to Denmark for a representative of the Academy, which claimed to offer help, guidance and friendship for Johan. One year of English lessons later and he was off to Laputa to begin classes.
Abilities and Talents:
Advanced Equilibrioception: Thanks to a hyper-developed inner ear, Johannes has a superb sense of natural balance; this allows him to perform the acrobatic maneuvers he prides himself on without missing a beat, and also prevents his most prominent power from disorienting him when he uses it.
The Shock Wave: Thanks in part to an oddly re-purposed appendix, Johan can consciously generate physical, destructive shock waves from any part of his body at any time. The pulses behave and travel much like sound waves and even produce a short, low-pitched beep, though they disperse near-instantly upon contact with air; otherwise, the damage they do resembles that of an earthquake, though much weaker and on a much smaller scale. He needs to make some sort of relevant motion to generate a shock (arm twitch does not equal leg shock) and the greater the movement, the greater the power of the shock, as well as the more powerful the recoil; assuming sufficiently involved movement, he is entirely capable of knocking himself over or fracturing bones if he isn't properly braced.
Parkour de Johan: The boy got pretty engaged in performing various stunts when he first discovered his powers, and(thanks to some very painful practice), with their assistance, can utilize well-timed pulses to increase his running speed(the movement resembles leaping), his jumping ability(on a good day he can even pull off a wall jump), and negate a fair portion of his falling momentum by releasing a counter-pulse through the points of impact; practice has made him good enough to reduce three story falls to their single story equivalents.
Taekwondo: Johan has achieved a first degree black belt in the Korean art; he has been trained in the same way most Olympic athletes are trained in the art; what his kicks lack in natural power are mostly made up for in the speed he can deliver them.
Capoeira: Malthiesen practices Capoeira Regional, and is most skilled at the acrobatic aspects of the art, though it would be over-generous to call him a master in any respect.
Accessories:
Cell Phone: Like any respectable teenager, Johannes has a cell phone. His particular phone is a Blackberry-styled device, complete with an eye-strainingly small screen and teeny little buttons; he can surf the Internet with it, take pictures and video, text, and even make actual phone calls.
MP3 Player + ear buds: Also like any respectable teenager, Malthiesen totes a portable music player; he stocks it up primarily with various genres of rock, and likes to start up some tunes when he executes stunts or is going to perform some capoeira.
Weaknesses: No two ways about it; Johan is a shameless showoff, almost categorically incapable of backing down from challenges, even long after the challenge has become distressingly dangerous. By extension, he's also prone to overestimating himself.
As stated above, using The Shock Wave produces recoil, and, while his body is adapted to mitigating some of it, it is still very much there, and the recoil is as area-specific as the pulse is; for instance, pulsed punches carry a notable risk, as the recoil is delivered right to the knuckles themselves: his hay-makers are half as likely to break his hand as they are to damage his target.
