Name: Kote the Grey
Age: Undeterminable. Thought to be between 1700 and 1900.
Gender: None
Race: Kote
Height: 4'2" (5'1" including the ears)
Weight: roughly 60 lbs
Alignment: Lawful Good
Power Level:
Timeline: Any Pre-Modern Fantasy (best fit; can fit in others)
Appearance:
Kote the Grey, so named after the remarkable fact that its entire coat is a solid ashen color with hardly any variation in hue, from the end of its snout to the tip of its tail (sans the icy-blueish stripe characteristic of all kote), as well as the short goatee forming under its snout. Like most kote, the iris of its eyes are black, giving them the illusion of being heavily dilated. While very short by human standards, its 4'2" height and roughly 1' long ears are fairly standard for its race.
While Kote are typically quadripedal and clothesless, Kote the Grey defies both in order to lessen the impact of its otherworldly features (there aren't usually large bipedal fox-people in most dimensions, you see). Clothing is not as long-lived as a kote, however. While its clothing style has changed over the centuries the stone-like choker collar on its neck under its jaw has never moved from its spot since it was put on; almost as constant a feature is the straw basket it wears over its head (comparable to a tengai) in order to mask its foxlike features and hide its ears. The kote's current "fashion" includes a white chitoniskos over a long plain white chiton, both bound about the middle with an indigo-colored sash. Over this is worn a long indigo tunic (i.e. an alb w/o the liturgical context) and a white sash; this is either worn open with the sash slung over the shoulder, or tied closed with the sash, depending upon the weather. Hidden within its right sleeve, coiled about its right arm is a long "string" of small pearl-like beads, while it typically holds its staff with its left.
The kote stands upon two solid blocks of wood roughly 4" high, tied to each foot-paw with cord to hold them on. While not the most comfortable and certainly not something a pawed & clawed creature would care to wear, they do help to keep the kote's various vestments from draging along the ground slightly, though their main purpose is to keep people watching from noticing its decidedly animal-like clawed "feet". Oh, and no one every really likes to get mud between their "toes", anyway.
Personality:
Its general air of melancholy is the most noticable. A most peculiar characteristic is its recent habit of expressing itself in terms of "I" and"me" to other beings, though its non-standard train of thought and "conversation" sees it rarely make use of this. It was always inherently peaceful as is the rest of its kind but roughly a millenia in extradimensional exile has given it both the patience and wisdom that it lacked when it was younger, and uses its powers with a great deal more discression because of it.
Worthy of note is the fact that it likes music, and is particularly fond of music produced by instruments that make their sound via the movement of air.
History:
Will be posted once I find the time to type it.
Powers:
See the next post. Kote the Grey is a powerful psion like the rest of its race, though its uses with it are generally limited to telepathy, telekinesis, and the listed effects. It's real expertise comes in the use of arcane ritual protections.
Equipment:
Kote the Grey's staff is a six-foot-long pole of a sturdy, unknown wooden material. The staff widens a bit for the last foot at the "head" end of the staff, where six hollow notches are carved out of the wood, into which the "bloodstones" used in the kote's rituals are placed.
The Bloodstones themselves are spherical, roughly the size of a golf ball, and an opaque dark blood red. The kote's various rituals all require these stones, which are themselves created via a ritual whereby a large amount of blood is fused and condensed with a proportionally large amount of arcane power to create a highly potent catalyst. The stones themselves don't seem destructable by mundane means. Such a large amount of blood is necessary to create one stone, that the "safe" limit for making them is once every two weeks; any sooner, and the loss of blood would be such that the kote would be incapacitated, or even killed. (The minimum "safe" amount of time to recreate all six stones is thus a little under 3 months)
Kote the Grey also has about 30 small, half-inch, pearl-like spheres. These spheres nothing more than precast spells that have been interrupted before their effects could take place and, reigned in and manifested into physical forms. This allows for their effects to be used at will without casting, which could save vital seconds in an emergency. In theory, there is no limit to the number of thse that can be created, though 25-35 seems to be the real limit; any more, and the collective concentrated auras begin to interfere with any spell or ritual-casting ability. They are typically wrapped around the neck like a rosary, or coiled about the forearm, kept together by the force of their own power. During times when the kote's channeling of the mists is at its height, such as during intense combat or while performing rituals, the pearl-like beads tend to float around the kote of their own volition.
Weakness:
Psionics notwithstanding, while they maye have an edge on agility, all Kote are smaller and physically weaker than even a typical human, and their bodies cannot withstand much physical punishment. Kote are also victims of their own greatest strength; while capable of absorbing/consuming magical energies and capable of shrugging off psionic forces, they are also quite powerless against beings with like abilites.
Furthermore, Kote the Grey is soulbound to the "stone" choker about its neck until the completion of its penance and the removal of the choker by the one who created it. While the stone choker is immune to any physical force, breaking the choker will instantly destroy the kote. (Do not pass go. Do not collect $200)
