Name: Delphi
Age: Over two millennia old.
Gender: Female
Race: Naga
Alignment: Neutral
Power Level: High-tier High (9)
Timeline: Medieval - Modern
Appearance: Young and stunning, Delphi is the portrait of a perfectly formed woman. Slender but shapely, with small, perfect breasts, a flat stomach and lean hips. However, her similarities to a human female end there.
Delphi is a naga. A snake woman with sultry, reptilian eyes and long hair which may appear to be black, but has a deep green luster in direct sunlight. The dark emerald hue closely matches the color of the glossy scales that cover her long and muscular tail. It begins at her waist and stretches over a mile and a half in length; Delphi's pride and joy. Perfect for slowly crushing prey as well as being a very comfortable pillow to snuggle and rest upon. Much to Delphi's delight, her tail continues to grow by an additional foot-length every season. According to it's ever increasing size, her tail also grows an additional heart every couple years, adding to an internal chain of many others.
Personality: Laziness is a virtue for Delphi. Despite her great power, she is content to spend much of her time dozing in a pleasant haze. Since she's so opposed to over exerting herself, she will wait patiently for prey to stumble across her, rather than actively hunting. When well fed and bored, the naga sorceress will often choose to sleep for days, waking periodically to see if anything can interest her.
On the occasion Delphi does get the inclination to bother with moving her massive serpentine body anywhere it's usually because she wants to find a better spot to sunbathe or to go take a long soak in her favorite hot spring. The simmering mineral pools near her nest do wonders to relieve the itching and discomfort she endures when shedding her skin twice each year. Indeed, she has a particular fondness for swimming; how light she feels in the water, and how refreshed afterward.
Comfortable in her seclusion, Delphi cares little for the troubles of others or the world outside her jungle, and generally dislikes being bothered unless the momentary disruption could prove to be worth her while. She has many ways of exploiting her visitors, whether they be slayers or petitioners, for there are many who wish her dead and many more who wish favors from her. Of the later, the most bothersome by far are the insipid naga males who foolishly think themselves worthy of mating with the legendary sorceress. Delphi has always jealously guarded her virginity, and has devoured all of her would-be suitors. Only some of her other guests become food, but all are made to provide rich entertainment, one way or another.
History: Though legend makes her out to be the daughter of a river goddess, Delphi began life as just a humble, yellow-speckled egg nestled in a warm mound of forest floor leaf litter, closely guarded by a vigilant mother. Once hatched, young Delphi grew quickly and had matured into a full grown adult by the time she was 10 years old. Distanced from her mother, it looked as though the young naga maiden would lead an unremarkable life, perhaps aspiring to nothing greater than breeding her own offspring one day. But the typical existence that she might have had, was irrevocably altered one humid night in summer.
That was when Delphi met, and later ate, a witch called Bisha. The hard-fought meal was no more or less satisfying than any other Delphi had ever had, but at the time she could not have guessed at the consequences of devouring the sour-tasting spell caster. She began to feel very ill the next morning, and spent the whole day coiled around a tree, groaning in great discomfort. And though her belly ache faded over night, she still didn't feel quite like herself. Her body felt different some how, as if warmed from within by an uncanny sense of well being.
Gradually, Delphi would discover she had gained the ability to command spells, and to gaze into the aether it's self. The past, the present, and the infinitude of possible futures. This pleased her greatly, but not so much as the realization that eating Bisha had also made her immortal. The implications proved to be delightful. Every naga's tail grows continuously throughout their lives, and in females, the tail is a sign of fertility and strength. Immortality meant Delphi's tail would be growing indefinitely. Much faster than normal it seemed, and with the added effect of gradually enhancing her powers with every foot-length gained in a season. Bisha had proven to be the best thing Delphi had ever eaten. The infusion of a witch's essence had awoken a power in her that never would have manifested otherwise.
There was a time when she would venture out of the jungle and into more civilized lands, but as she grew older and larger, Delphi eventually settled down somewhere deep in the tropical summits of the Uluru highlands. Yet her legend as something of a miracle worker persisted, inspiring generations adventures who where either desperate, ambitious, or merely curious enough to seek her out. And there are the rare few souls who can honestly claim, "I found the nest of Delphi."
Powers:
Alteration Mastery: Delphi is perhaps the greatest practitioner of alteration magics the world will ever know. Such endows her with a nearly unparalleled capacity for both creation and destruction. Be it earth, water, or flesh, her repertoire of spells for manipulating all things material is nearly as long as she is. She could almost remake the world if it wouldn't be so much work.
Pseudo-Immortal: Like the high elves, Delphi does not age. She is immune to all forms of sickness, but can still perish like any other creature if her body is violently undone.
Clairvoyance: Even after centuries spent gazing into the aether, it's visions of the past, present, and future still fascinate Delphi. The universe seems much less chaotic and random with such an insight into all that was, is, and ever shall be. But Delphi reminds all who beg her for her prophetic word that she is not all seeing; only all seeking. She can search the aether for answers, but does not always find them. Or merely pretends not to.
Regeneration: A natural blessing that comes with being a naga, but one that can also be greatly enhanced by Delphi's spell craft. Cuts and burns that could take days to heal might be mended in a matter of moments.
Equipment: None.
Weakness: Being so large and slow-moving, Delphi has a difficult time dodging attacks and is not quick enough to flee if she is ever in danger of losing a life or death struggle.
