A strange computer problem

I'm having a strange computer problem. The problem is I cannot enter text into text boxes like AIM, search, and a some other programs or text boxes like log in. I can enter text into Word, Excel, MSN, here in the internet browser, and for the most part everything else.

I noticed this problem when it first poped up when I updated my computer programs. But I have no idea how to fix this. Can someone help me please?

Did you try doing a system restore? It might undo the problem.

A system restore? Like setting back my system to before I got the updates? I don't think that would work. Not to mention my virus protection software has been bitching at me for those updates for a long time.
