Name: Steinarr
Age: 656 appears to be mid-30s
Gender: Male
Race: Varangian, 1st Generation Praetorian
Alignment: Lawful Good
Power Level: High-Tier High (9)
Timeline: Modern/Futuristic
Appearance: Steinarr is a behemoth of a man, standing roughly 7'8 tall and with a broad muscled frame that would do a body builder credit. He has chiseled and strong features that fit with his overall appearance. Like all of his kind, he has the vivid yellow eyes, silver-white hair, and extremely pale skin that are markers of the race. Despite the weight of all the years of battle and conflict, Steinarr is most commonly seen with a jovial aspect. He most commonly is found attired in the white uniform of the Praetorians.
Like all Varangians, Steinarr has a combat form that he dons by growing out a protective suit from his body. Like all Praetorians, his is uniquely shaped by his powers and attributes. In his combat form he is covered fully by a stylized suit of armor. Already large, the bulky and heavy nature of his protective armor makes him even more of an armored titan in appearance. It is not the most ornate among the Praetorian suits, though the great horned helm is from which four spines protrude in addition to the horns does look rather impressive. His armor is primarily white, though it has a slight greenish tint to it that is always present. However, it is fairly uncommon to see him simply enmeshed in his armor. If he has found it necessary to take on his combat form his armor will typically be enmeshed within a dense and larger clone of itself made from living stone, the size of this is variable...
Personality: Steinarr is a surprisingly boisterous and happy being for one who was created to fight in an eternal war against a parasitic plague. Quick to laugh and the rare genuine optimist among his people, he always held out hope not merely for survival but for true victory itself. His genuine optimism is something that was invaluable over the years as it buoyed the spirits of others. He is also a guardian and a protector of his people and is willing to sacrifice himself for their greater good. He revels in battle and while he loathed the corruptive power of the plague like all his kind, he regarded it as a worthy if terrible adversary an eternal opponent that one day they would cast down and defeat. His flaw is perhaps that he doesn't really know what to do without the conflict now that it has come to a close. He is confident, and perhaps a touch arrogant though the hard edges of what once was an overabundance of pride has been worn down over the years.
History:
Steinarr is one of the 10 1st Generation Praetorians to have been created. He was conceived in the relatively early days of the war, when the Varangians had just retreated into Sactuary. He, along with his 9 brothers and sisters were intended to serve as the vanguard of the empire, invincible, incorruptible, unstoppable soldiers who would make it possible to return to Earth and reclaim it for its people. Like his brothers and sisters, Steinarr was an experiment, though unlike the first Praetorian, Astrid, he was not inoculated with the plague, the risk had been judged too great when anomalous effects were noted in her. Though like her there were traces of ancient myths and trappings of the Varangians past imbued within him. His birth, and those of his siblings were celebrated, and they were held forth as a symbol of hope to a desparate people. These would be the champions who would in conjuction with advances in technology and steadfast determination, allow for the retaking of lost Earth. Alas that was not to be.
Training and growth took time and by the time Steinarr and his siblings had reached sufficient maturity to be deployed the plague had begun its slow inroads into the Sanctuary itself. Initial deployments were great successes, the powers of the Praetorians drove back the plague and its creatures, and Sanctuary was once more secure. The next step was retaking lost Earth, purging the plague from the world. But when the armies of the Varangians attempted to retake their home they were met with failure. The Earth as it had been was no more, instead it had begun an infected and corrupted breeding ground for the plagued. Still they made the effort. In this effort the first of the original Praetorians fell and casualties were immense.
Some took the loss worse than others. For him, it was a setback, and a grievous one, but he never allowed his belief in ultimate victory to weaken. It also enmeshed in him the view that the plague itself was clearly a truly worthy foe, something that despite what he had been taught he had been reluctant to actually believe. He would fight for centuries alongside the others, being an unyielding wall against incursions by the plague into Sanctuary, a tide that only seemed to grow as time went on.
The situation grew steadily more dire, portions of the Sanctuary itself had been abandoned to the plague. Battles raged nearly constantly against the twisted and corrupted things that emerged from the corrupted lands. New rifts opened at random across the Sanctuary to pour forth more of the twisted things. The Great Leader, architect of the escape to Sanctuary, the creation of the Praetorians, and much of the Varangian technology conceived of a new plan. Through the study of the rifts and the methods used to create Sanctuary itself in the first place a method had been devised to link with the past, allowing escape. Once there, the Varangians would conquer their past world, and have centuries to prepare for when the plague arrived, vigilant and ready to destroy it before the spread could begin.
Steinarr like most of his brethren took part in the invasion and waged war against the natives of the new reality. Though ultimately the forces of the Varangians were defeated by the combined weight of the native metahumans and sheer numbers coupled with the collapse in Sanctuary.
Following the war, and the peace negotiations that granted the remnants of the Varangians a new home, Steinarr, along with his two remaining first generation siblings have taken on leadership roles within the survivors. So far much of what he has done has been attempting to see that the Great Leader's plans, with some modifications (like not converting the locals), are carried out. Though he has also served as a liaison to Earth militaries to assist in preparing for the possibility of plague outbreaks. He has also enmeshed himself in a study of the military history of this new world, which fascinatingly appears to have diverged in the distant past from their lost home.
Powers: As one of the first generation Praetorians, Steinarr was shaped to be an ultimate weapon, an invincible and incorruptible warrior of great power who would defeat the plague and allow for the reclaiming of Earth. He possesses significantly increased strength, speed, durability, and intelligence compared to a baseline human being. He further possesses limited technopathic abilities and as all of his race can, can manifest a protective exoskeletal suit. The list of powers below specifically focuses on those powers that he is unique or relatively unique for his kind in possessing.
Superhuman Strength: Even among superhumans from a race that already exceeds the normal attributes of human abilities Steinarr is freakishly strong. Such is his strength that many heavily armored foes of similar power level can find their armor ripped or torn asunder by the force of his strikes. He also possesses the raw strength to do things such as lift a mountain, assuming that a part of the mountain was actually stable enough to hold fast while he was lifting it.
Terakinesis: Steinarr has a fine degree of control over stone and soil in all its forms. He can manipulate and control it with a thought. Creating cataclysmic earthquakes, animating a mountain to take the form of an immense stone golem to crush a foe, or turning it into its molten liquid form to incinerate and consume are all within his power. His ability to cause such transitions is actually the way in which he, much like almost all Praetorians can purify or obliterate the plague. He further uses this power to encase his armor in forms of various sizes, with the largest being much like a walking mountain itself. In battle with the plague he would frequently make the outermost layer molten, minimizing the risk of contamination further.
Insane Durability: Steinarr's protective suit is among the most hardened of any of Praetorian. Exposure to molten rock does not tax it in the slightest and even high end energy attacks, assuming they make it through the empowered stone that surrounds him are unlikely to pierce it.
Equipment:
Steinarr's Great Sword: Marvels of technology, tailored to be used by a single being and no other, infused with the essence of their wielders and built to synergize exclusively with them, the weapons of the first generation Praetorians are a marvel themselves. Steinarr's personal weapon, an immense greatsword that can function for defensive purposes as well given its sheer size is nearly indestructible. The contains sufficient matter to make up a mountain range itself, all massively compressed. By virtue of this immense mass coupled with Steinarr's strength it delivers blows that are quite literally earthshaking. It is also capable of growing or shrinking in size as needed and can be turned into a molten plasmic state. Due to its composition, should it be damaged Steinarr's will and power can mend it.
Assorted Praetorian Equipment: The Praetorians all have access to a host of advanced equipment. Sophisticated reconnaissance drones, energy weapons, gravity manipulating devices, ect. Steinarr will typically have access to a means of fast transportation if deployed on his own due to his lack of an ability to fly. Other equipment will vary.
Weakness:
Speed: Steinarr is blistering fast by the standards of a normal human, and he can keep up and react to others with superhuman speed, but compared to most at his power level he is definitely on the slow end. This is obviously a disadvantage in combat and simple maneuvering.
Pride: While this is far less of a weakness than it was in his youth, Steinarr does retain some tendencies to underestimate those he fights against until he witnesses their capabilities himself or hears about them from someone he trusts. This can lead to situations where he is caught off guard by unexpected abilities or capabilities of a foe. Though again, centuries of experience had dulled this significantly.
Protector: When the chips are down and there is a risk or threat to his people Steinarr remains easy to predict to an extent. He will do anything and everything to protect them, just like nearly all of his siblings.
