I've read some of the manga, and I agree, it is quite incredible, not just from the perspective of artwork, but the concepts in play.
Here, we have a future world where computers now look like young women. We see several things going on, including the debasing of the female image, implication of male supremecy and increased attachment to inanimate objects, all very possible effects of such a technological development. The implied world is rich with psychological and sociocultural implications, even reflecting on present-day issues.

Hm? The "computer" are not just atractive towards males ya know? They male "male computers" to attact women, and small little "computers" to attract childreen. Thus, the new "computers" do not only attract males, but all humanity....

I read a good deal of it, and I never saw a male persocom, not once. Every last one was female.

Having female persocoms, implies the existence of male persocoms, but it was as you said verified to be true or false, from what I've read and watched...

Having female persocoms no more implies the existance of male persocoms than having red wallpaper indicates the presence of blue. Look at the store window in one of the first pages, where all of the persocoms are lined up on display. Every last one is female. If male models were present, you would think that they would also be on display. From that, it is instead implied that there are no male persocoms, rather than that there must be because there are female ones.

Generally speaking, why have something of one appearant sex, with out having the other? But, because men are more likely to be addicted to a persocom, male persocoms if they exist would be sold less often, and kept in a back room, unless someone requests to see them...

Why have something of another apparent sex? There is no rational reason. For equality? Nonsense. They're machines, products. Sales? There would be no market for it if it was never manufactured. Design? Perhaps you didn't notice where the on switch was. The build of a male would also be inefficient, as it would have to be bigger, heavier and possess more unimportant cosmetic features without offering any increase in productivity.

If you read all of Chobits or watched it all you would understand the on switch was only on that spot on Chii (Elda) and her sister, Freya, because they were ****spoiler!!!**** Chobits and very powerful. Now, If you take a look at the grouping of persacoms like when Chi exscapes from that peeping porn place and was jumping from light to light you would notice male persacoms. Women like them jsut as much as men. Yea sure when they showed them in the store window they were all female but that was only because A) it was haidake! come on!!! ofcourse he would only be interested in women! and B) i think CLAMP wanted the cute adorableness that only women could bring.

I have not read that far into the series. Regardless, one scene showing what may be male persocoms is insufficient to alter the perspective that persocoms are primarily female, and therefore produce a sociocultural impact upon the way that gender is seen and thought of.

XD after watching the last few episodes or chapter, what ever... I've got to agree with Angel, it does show a male persocom which proves there is male ones, which was what we where in a way fighting over, sure they're not every where like the females, but they are there, again, like I said they aren't advertised as much as the female persocoms...

Actually, what started it was the idea that the persocoms served to debase and devalue the female gender.

*shrugs* In a way, but in my own personal opinion, they deface *all* of humanity... Men being attracted to things that simply *look* like females being on average being governed by their pants, Women with comparing them to the female persocoms, all of humanity by the how the persocoms replaced humanity's need for another human...

I feel that any influence on the male interpretations of what it means to be an attractive and properly-behaved female is only a side-effect of the effect of how women are viewed as a whole.
But just for the record, let's not forget that these persocoms do not simply look like females. They talk like females, feel like females and even move like females. They aren't just inanimate Barbie dolls.

Um... I don't watch or read Chobits, but I'm guessing it's an anime/manga thing, in which case this topic really belongs in the "Anime/Manga Discussion" board. *Topic Nazi *
