I just saw it today. Lotus couldn't have put it any better. And if they did go after me, I'd make them crawl up a 20-foot ladder sheilded from arrows to just reach me, allowing me to pwn them one at a time for many days and many nights.

Just got back from the movie. It was bloody awsome. Although dissappointing they missed and or cut the great ship battle that happened. I'll wait for later to disscuss anyhting. GO SEE IT!
Now for Lotuses Q, Well seeing how you gave it out general even though I'm beating you wanted an answer like, "If I was in the same situation as those spartans this is what I'd do" but I'm going to answer as if it happend to me right now in this day and age. What I'd do is use guirilla fighting tactics to take as many as I could for as long as possiable. Now if I was in the same shoes as the 300. well... things would go bad from the start seeing how I know more about what works with modern tactics than old tactics. But most likely I'd try to get them with a running cresent moon tactic or just turtle them for as long as possiable.

I may as well play devil's advocate, since no one else is. It could have been so much better. I was disappointed. Overdone lines, impractical leaps, melodrama, orcs, ninjas... I was half expecting to see good ol' King Leo pose in front of some Spartany adaptation of the American flag. I wish they'd left the politics out and let the movie be just a movie. Overall, it was okay. Some parts were great, but a lot could have been better. On the plus side, I earned the rights to say " For Spartaaa!" all the time.

I don't understand why everyone is applying modern politics to this movie. People say it has everything to do with the US invading Iran, but they dont realize that 90% of our idiotic population probobly has no idea that iran used to be persia

Subtle does have a point, im sorry to say true but you really misread that movie, its based around the graphic novel and it holds to it well, there was no politics involved in the making of that movie, just take it for what it is, a very bloody and violent movie, thats all

And no one has any problem with the ninjas, gravity-defying leaps, or orcs? And I'm not saying I didn't like the ninjas, but, y'know, they were still ninjas and all.
I didn't say the entire movie was just made to be all political and stupid, but I do believe politics got tossed in there. And the enemy was so darn flat, we had no reason to sympathize with them, and I like cheering for the bad guys.

well seeing as how that is how the persians kinda were, there really isnt any reason to root for them, especially since they loose in real life. As for the ninjas, there were no ninjas, the orcs were just the freaks from having sex with your family members and politics only got tossed in after the iranians complained about it

.........Those were not ninjas. Those were the Imortals. READ A HISTORY BOOK OR WATCH THE HISTORY CHANNEL TRUE! On a side note, I like to state that to this day there still is a small tribe of people who are believe to be desendents of the Imortals. Just... well... they seem to be going to into accounting instead of war.... beware of the Imortal Accountants!
And I have to agree with Subtle, for once. 80-90% of all Americans don't know that iran used to be persia.
I'd also like to state that the movie did happen to leave out yet another thing. Anyone think, Why arn't these guys wearing any armor? Well... the movie left it out for, I'm guessing, sex appeal. Even though in the actual battle, the 300 had armor that was almost like todays kevlar.

Hey, caps are for lame-os. The Immortals looked similar to ninjas, therefore I approximated them to ninjas, though I understand they really weren't. And one did a flying side kick. I'm pretty sure Persians didn't know that move. The mutants looked similar to orcs, therefore I approximated them to orcs. Perhaps we're just seeing the battle through a more mythological view. I think that's feasible, but, if true, still a dumb idea. [<--just my opinion] Politics are boring and stupid and I'm not going to methodically pick through the movie to defend my position, largely because I don't even remember half of my point or the movie (The latter loss I do not mourn ). In not doing so, I make myself look like I don't know what I'm talking about. Of this I am aware. But I will still insist, despite an obvious lacking of evidence, they were in there. But if you don't think so, that's nice, too.

Finally got to see this, and for the most part I agree with Blue. There were some really amazing parts, and I enjoyed the quirky conversations tossed back and forth between some of the soldiers, but there were some parts that were just... *groan* Not to mention the god-king looked like a drag queen, did anyone else notice the mans eyebrows???!!!! >.>;;

Haven't seen it yet. Want to see it really badly, because classical warfare is awesome.
However, even though I haven't seen it, yet, that doesn't mean I can't put a few people back in their place. True, you missed the whole point of the movie. The point of this movie is that Spartans are hardcore bad-asses. That's it. Nothing more. So what if they kill Orcs and Ninjas? That just reinforces their badassness.
*Sigh* Lotus, the Persians are portrayed in the movie as savage barbarians. That's obvious without even seeing it. However, they were NOT really like that. They were one of, if not THE, most civilized cultures of the world at that time. Just be glad my International Relations teacher isn't gonna read what you wrote. She'd verbally rape you if she did.
Also, just to nitpick, the Persians eventually killed those Spartans and won the battle of Thermopylae, but they lost the next battle, the Battle of Salamis, and were forced out of Greece.

If you havent noticed Frank Miller's style, its very black and white. The point of the movie wasnt to make you think about what is good and what is evil. The point of the movie is that these people beleived in somthing so strongly that they willingly sacrificed their lives for it.
Honestly, modern culture is so used to the same regurgitated crap they see in the movies over and over that they get confused when they see somthing mildly new. 300 is hardly ground breaking. I don't understand why people have such a hard time grasping it.
Perhaps we need more black guy white guy cop movies.

HA, well I can't say I didn't like it. The fighting scenes for the most part were well done. Oh, and to correct myself from before, I found this in a search engine. Not only is the god-king not a drag queen, but he isn't black either. He is a white male, who actually plays a minor role in the TV show Lost.
