True sat up, nearly finished nursing her imagined emotional wounds. "Because you're a hateful jerk! Go steal some bodies or something!"
-
"What do I want?" The invisible voice echoed. "When I look at you, I see an unfinished book. All I seek is to tear out the pages. I want to shock you to the core and break you in half, or else rip out your brain and give that a good look-see. Perhaps I could just read the book and then scribble out what I don't like? Maybe I'll make it say something silly! Wouldn't that be funny?"
-
Caelus had landed smack-dab in the middle of England somewhere, on a griffon's back, and he was lucky he hadn't broken it.
"Oh! James!" A woman in an old blue dress cried, running toward the stranger and the downed beast. They were by a low, slow-flowing stream, in the wilds so far as he could see, nothing but forest and dirt and the stream.
The drab brown-furred mythical animal underneath him squawked miserably, in no small amount of discomfort. "Get thee off me, lowborn fiend! I'll have you flogged!"

*True*
"Yeah ..." Terry answered yet again. "I think I'd rather find out why a building just exploded without actually exploding while you just happened to be in the alley behind it crying about being the princess of Arizona."

"Gaha!"
Scrambling off of the griffin, Caelus got about halfway through an apology before realizing what he was apologizing to and going "What's this? Threatened by a griffin? This is outrageous!"

"You see an unfinished book merely because i have yet to die. just as you cannot judge a book by its cover, you cannot judge it by the first few pages alone." Cadaervec simply began to walk away. He was convinced that he would enjoy whatever was ahead by the voice. "The only place to start is at the begining." He continued on to where the explosion occured.

"Vice President. You don't even listen." True rolled up to her feet and swayed for balance, before walking up to the blinding white-orange upward blast. It was still erupting, just as it had been, and showed no signs of slowing or else returning to the Earth at all. The sky was beginning to look smoky and dark, but no collateral damage had been done that wasn't at the onset.
"It's a device." True mumbled under the deafening roar of magma turning lava. "Like a... Bat signal. Or sirens, or something. Or a yule log."
-
"Base villain!" The animal fluttered upright, flapping and shaking like it couldn't rid itself of the stranger's filth. "I'll cut out your vile heart with enthusiasm!"
"James, dear, for heaven's sake!" The woman skipped to a halt, releasing her skirt to fall back around her ankles. She looked from one to the other with bright, clear blue eyes, her pale skin protected by the broad white parasol. "I'm very sorry for my husband's attitude, sir, but you did land on him."
-
The voice just followed him as he walked. "Ah, how very wise! I would've never thought to think of that! You're so clever, I feel stupid just talking to you."

Getting about halfway through his pre-battle preparations(unziping jacket, checking watch), Caelus stopped himself temporarily to say "Can you really blame me for the machinations of some well-placed portal? It's not my fault it dropped me into the middle of a forest and onto the back of your pe---er, husband."
After a look around revealed no identifying characteristics other than the stream, allowed himself to hazard a question: "Just where are we, anyway?"

Cadaervec just walked on as the voice mocked him. He lived in a world with imps and other minor demons. Whoever was speaking would have to try much harder to annoy him. He turned the corner where the eruption was happening, when he recognized someone from one of his father's stories. " True?" He shook his head for the shock. The war she helped her father in was many, many years ago. "What are you doing here?"

Terry grinned as she described it as a signal, slipping his sleeve up away from the watch. "I'll bet Hothead could put it out fast ..."
He stopped as he glanced toward the guy that walked around the corner and gave him a flat glare. "Uh, yeah, dude, white hair and red eyes? If you're trying to blend in, you're an idiot."

The woman frowned. "I know nothing of any portals, but I know it's exceptionally rude to land on strangers."
The griffon, allegedly 'James', clawed at the earth and tore up weeds. He was furious, but Daisy didn't like it when he lashed out like he wanted, so he did all he could to only tear up the dirt. "Filthy peasant..."
-
The Vice President of Arizona gave Caterer an obvious once-over. She didn't remotely resemble Veritas anymore, in deed or body, and she didn't recognize him, so she ignored him.
"Uh, dude," she mimicked Terry, "obviously, nobody cares?"
"Indeed!" The voice squealed in agreement, but it was still only audible to Cadaervec. "How tremendously rude, insulting this fine, upstanding individual! How base! How positively impolite!" The voice paused, though, like it was thinking.
"The middle class American has something of a point, though. Why do you have white hair and red eyes? Is it just something your god likes? I do the same thing, sometimes. I like green."

Terry shrugged at True's scolding. "I didn't say I cared," he answered, "just said he looked like an idiot. Or worse, like someone trying to pretend he just jumped out of some half-baked Japanese cartoon."

"Well, I'm sorry, but I simply can't be blamed for where a portal drops me; last time I checked I was leaping towards a recently exploded building, not bearing down on a griffin." Looking around, Aelius started to thoroughly inspect the place, attempting to find the portal again; the few he had run into had generally been two-way or had some sort of switch on one or both sides to activate it.
"Besides the immediately preceding incident, has anything particularly abnormal happened around here?" While Caelus couldn't be totally sure on exactly what passed for 'normal' around here, he was hoping that he might potentially be able to zero in on what sent him here so he could be expedient in returning.

[Sorry, Ture, Forgot all about the physical changes.]
"I'm really closer to that second one no that you mention it. But I don't see any reason to explain it or keep up my disguise." With that final word the illusion was dispelled to the three of them. "Now do you see, True? Perhaps you recognize me now? I'm Toriji's son."

Immediately upon the half-demon's exposure of his true self, Terry placed himself between Caedervac and True, the sleeve all the way off the glove now. "Whoa, how about you keep yourself nice and back?" he insisted. "I've seen a lot of freak shows in my time, but none that look as bad as you have ever had good intentions."

"Hah! I have nothing but good intentions. This woman helped my father keep the peace in my realm. I feel the need to thank her, just as he would want me to." A glint of a smile reflected in his crystaline eyes. "It is very honorable for you to defend someone like that against something like me but it is unneeded."

Underneath a black denim jacket on a wooden bench on the sidewalk lay an oblivious and tired boy. His thoughts were disturbed by some strange noises atypical to the regular clamor of the streets, and the noises permeated into his dreams, making him slightly fitful in his rest. He wriggled slightly, making himself more aware of the uncomfortable wooden planks beneath him despite his slumber. It was one of those rare nights that Aden found himself without someone's bed to share or sleep in. Not that he minded, because it was one of those rare nights that he wished to sleep alone, in his own sort of solitude.
While all the commotion continued to go on not even a hundred feet away, Aden continued to sleep. Thoughts in his sleep managed to emerge into some sort of consciousness while he slept. He told himself stubbornly that he would not wake up, not yet. He wondered if he would wake up to a police officer prodding him to leave. He decided that he was camouflaged well enough into the city so that a cop couldn't tell the difference between a normal bench and the one he was on. He thought on the unusual sounds drifting through his subconscious and that the bizarre noises would only aid his disguise. His thoughts continued into higher levels of irrationality in his sleep and then slowly degraded back into unconscious musings.
But some nagging force in the back of his clinging consciousness was telling him that he should wake up. It was weak, but it was persistent, and despite Aden's overall stubborn fight against this force, Aden would soon be waking.
