"Oh, that won't be a problem," Janis answered, digging into a satchel at his side for a moment before coming out with a queer little device. "I have a dial. It tells the time and can be set to ring when a certain time is reached, and it doesn't need sunlight to work."
The sunless sundial might have made sense to the captain, but no doubt Zionix would recognize it as a functional, if oddly constructed, portable alarm clock.

After taking a scant moment to catch his breath again, Constance motioned to the would-be assassin. "Bind him and have whatever constitutes your city's guard take him into custody. We'll want to question him." He started around the corner again. "I'm going back in for Igashu."

"Oh, alright." Rush released him, her worries assuaged. She thrust the robe and her boots under her gloved arm. As she bent to don her leggings, she waved toward the door, a sliver of light interrupted by the silhouettes still fleeing the burning Motel Medieval. "Go on ahead, I'll be there as soon as I get my clothes on."

The sunless sundial might have made sense to the captain, but no doubt Zionix would recognize it as a functional, if oddly constructed, portable alarm clock. "Ah", Zionix started happily, "I had one of those..." Just as quick as it came, the happy face was replaced with a frown. " 'Til the villagers I were staying with destroyed it for being a device of the devil. Infact, that was one of the reasons they almost burned me." Leaning back in her chair she let go of it with a sigh, wondering when she would be able to get some food. The inhabitants of the last world were vegitarians and while she somewhat respected the notion she still hadn't eaten a hearty meal in a good amount of time. Patting her belly she turned to the barkeep. "Hey, mister, I think I will take you up on that offer for food now. I want to get some good food in before I am forced to eat rations. What do you have?"

((I wanted to get this post out before I went on my last trip, and here I am, about to go on another...))
*Kegan*
Igashu visibly hesitated when Rush told him to go ahead and leave her in a burning building, but it didn't take him long to convince himself that, given she took the explosion relatively well, she could handle a little smoke. With a nod that was barely visible (if at all, in the light), he left her and made his way out the door.
As Constance rounded the side of the building, he would easily be able to make out Igashu exiting the building among a couple other people, his mouth emiting wisps of mist as he breathed in the early morning chill. With his vision, he wouldn't need the still relatively unreliable light to notice the cool "wetness" running out from under his friend's hair and down the side of his head.
*Stonebreach*
The captain smiled as janis explained the device, and simply nodded her understanding. "Well then, if there's nothing else, I'll bid you both good night." She gave a slight bow, before motioning to her two subordinates and leaving up the stairs to whatever beds awaited them.
Tobias, meanwhile, rapped upon the counter with his large knuckles as he pondered over the possible food choices for Zionix. Stopping after a few seconds, he responded, "There's the usual fare on the menu...mostly stews, some roasts and the like if you're looking for something hearty or meaty. I was going to cook myself some dinner, an old recipe from the old homeland; I can make some for you too if you want, but if you value your ability to taste or just can't handle your spices, then I don't really recommend it."

Constance raised one arm to get the other young man's attention. "Igashu!" he shouted over the din, and immediately regretted it, grunting at the pain before hurrying over to him to see how bad the injury on the side of his head was.
*Stonebreach*
"Good night!" Janis returned to the captain cheerfully as she and her soldiers left before turning back to the man. When he heard the warning about the spices, he frowned. "I think I should probably just go with a salad, then ..."

Zionix nodded to the captians bow and turned her attention to her belly once more. She considered Tobias's offer and while the spices might aggrivate some people, he body and tastes were up to the task. Zionix followed Janis's order with her own.
"And I would like to take you up on that offer of yours. I love exotic foods and since it is a traditional recipe I trust you will be able to make it to a high standard. You seem do capable of creating a very nice dish." She considered that a compliment to Tobias and followed it with smile.

Grey wisps wafted off of Rush's rescued clothes as the cobalt-skinned alien jogged out of the smoldering inn. She spotted Igashu first, and trotted up behind him, then noticed Constance a moment late.
"Hey, you look like shit!" She wove around to the prince's side as the Rentisian met him. At this initial damage assessment, between Constance's holding his side like it might fall off and Igashu oozing red, it seemed she had lucked out, despite getting the brunt of the blast. Maybe the Pyran was just used to explosions. "How did you get outside? We don't have to pay for this, right? Should we run?" Rush paused a half-second, absently registering pain, everywhere. "Should we find a healer first? Where would we find a healer?"

*Stonebreach*(Just tell me when you two are ready to move on to the next day.) Tobias followed her smile with his own, but did nothing to confirm or deny her compliment as he picked his apron off the back counter and ducked through a door that must have lead to the cooking area. Tobias returned through the same door after what couldn't have been more than a few minutes, carrying a thick wooden platter with countless peculiar-looking circular burn marks etched all across its surface in one hand, and a small ceramic bowl in his other. All in one movement he turned, placing the platter upon the back counter, picking up both a serviette and hitherto unused fork form beneath said counter, spinning back around and placing salad, utensil, and napkin before Janis. Still working wordlessly, and still smiling (though maybe the smile was bigger now), he moved the picked up the wood platter and set it before Zionix. On this platter sat a simple gold flask, and two helmet-sized black stone bowls that were filled with a mixture of various meats, some "vegetables" that neither traveler would ever come close to recognizing, and some pale noodle-like substance, all raw. Tobias unstopped the flask, swirling it around a little bit before pouring liberal amounts of a silvery liquid all over the contents of each bowl. Satisfied that the bowls' contents were sufficiently saturated, he stopped, gave Zionix the interdimensional hand-gesture for "stand back," then took a swig from the flask and capped it. The smile had thoroughly disappeared from Tobias's face now, instead replaced by an expression as if he had just swallowed his own vomit. This passed quickly...a second later, he spewed forth a fountain of white flame, engulfing the contents of each bowl for only a moment before snapping his mouth shut, trails of smoke creeping from his nose. Just a moment was enough; the contents of each bowl with a white flame that slowly dimmed from yellow, to orange, to red, then shrank to nothing. While this was happening, the stone bowl went from a cold black to a hot ember-red. The entire process took almost a minute, after which Tobias handed Zionix a fork similar to Janis's with one hand and picked up a bowl with his other, raising it in a kind of toast. "Good luck. Enjoy." *Kegan*At Constance's call, Igashu looked over and waved back, slowly trotting over to meet him. His hand automatically fell to the hilt of the longsword on his side when he felt the presence behind him, but laxed considerably when a backwards glance revealed the smallish alien figure. "Pay for it my ass," Igashu commented during Rush's pause. Wondering why the other two saw something interesting on his head, he felt the wetness for a moment with his fingers. He rolled it with his thumb for a second, then lightly stuck it to his tongue, which elicited a small "huh" before wiping his hand on his trousers and continuing, "I can't say for certain. Most places in the Kingdom rely upon the nearest abbey. Kegan's probably big enough for there to be clerics and a temple somewhere, but I don't know this town. Yesterday was the first time I've been out this way." Igashu pointed to Constance's side. "Cramp?"

Janis had thanked the man for the beautifully-prepared salad, chewing on a cherry tomato while watching the man prepare the far more unique dish. He thought himself far away when the warning gesture was given ... and then flames erupted out of the man's mouth and engulfed the platter!
The Rentisian let out a very girlish cry of shock and fell completely off of the barstool.
*Kegan*
The half-alien scowled sourly back at the prince. "Yes," he confirmed with a faint note of sarcasm in his voice, "a cramp. Roughly the size of an ox-cart. I was, however, able to capture one of the assassins. We should see what we can find out."

Tobias had to set the bowl down almost as soon as he picked up it. He leaned forward over the counter, blinking for a bit and then offering a large hand to the fallen Janis. "Are you okay?"
*Kegan*
Igashu looked around, noticing the lack of a captured man, and shook his head, for once being serious about their condition. "No. If you want to play detective, let your self heal wrong and cripple yourself, that's your prerogative. However, I'm getting patched; I don't need yet another scar."

"Ah, thank you," Janis confirmed as the scientist accepted the hand back up. "Yes, I believe I am fine. It just surprised me is all." And a curtsey. "Please forgive my interruption."
*Kegan*
"He is quite unconscious and will be held by the city guard, who will be given a message that we will want to speak with him," Constance provided blankly. "By all means, nurse your wounds first. I doubt he will be gone before we get around to him."

Zionix watched Janis fall but made no move to help since Tobias had already was at it. Once Janis was up again Zionix clapped her hands happily and turned her attention to the food. She grabbed it an mimicked the toast that Tobias had performed and without waiting, began to chow down into the food.
Her body would automatically lessen or null any taste would would be ordinarly too much for her to handle. This always left food and drink to be a perfect balance for her senses.

"To the temple, then!" Rush concluded, but didn't run off anywhere. She expected Igashu or Constance to have a better idea, or to know which way they should go, though they'd both already affirmed that this town was unfamiliar. Ideally, wherever the trio was headed, it should be away from the hotel, as soon as possible. She turned her head from side to side, as if more black-clad assailants were going to jump them even in the golden morning light. "Let's start walking, at least," she made a face as Igashu smeared blood on his pants. Eww, was he going to wash those soon? "And we can ask someone on the way. I think we should get away from here."

Tobias couldn't help another smile as he readjusted his hand's grip on the stone bowl. "It's perfectly fine, no apologies needed. I don't expect most people to be accustomed to grown men shooting fire from their mouths." With that final note, he lifted the bowl to his lips and ate directly from it.
(cue transition! =D )
*Kegan*
"Right then," Igashu responded to them both as he slowly turned about, working to make out their surroundings for the first time since the streets were cleared of crowds and festival fare. "Let's get to looking."
It took a little while for the trio to find the "temple". In truth, they passed by it several times in their quest to find it, but it was so incredibly plain and unremarkable that it quite literally blended in to the rest of the buildings. With no markings or signage, only by explicitly asking for directions were they able to find the temple...though really, if Igashu had known that they were specifically looking for a temple dedicated to Ceomus Hemamus, then he would have picked out the plainness right away for what it really was (for, though Ceomus is about as lesser a diety as a diety can be, his sect is well-known).
"Well, here we are," commented the prince as they stood before what amounted to little more than a small two-story stone-and-plaster box of a building sandwiched between two like-sized homes. What with the door standing wide open, Igashu simply took the single step leading up to it in stride, and walked on in, giving the solid wood door a few hard knocks as he did so.
The roughly square room into which they entered wasn't especially small, but it certainly wasn't spacious, and the lack of decoration or windows gave the room a bleak appearance. The room's only lighting came from two carcel oil lamps, mounted one on either side wall, and the open door. In addition, an unnatural whitish light seemed to originate from some point above the desk on the opposite side of the room, though there was no discernable source.
Speaking of the desk, a small-ish bald man (small being a theme here) sat transcribing by hand the words from one rather large and full tome to another rather large-yet-empty tome but looked up when he heard the knocking on the open door, squinting behind his spectacles as his eyes adjusted to the change in distance and light.
"Come..." His voice was raspy from disuse, and he cleared his throat to get it working while setting down his quill and standing to go meet the three. "Come in, come...oh," the man, draped in a grey robe with enough plainness to rival the room, cut himself off as his eyes adjusted and drew near enough to notice the dreary state of his visitors. "You were at the Tin Hand, I gather."

The morning light filtered into an empty but plush room where it had expected to find the effeminate scientist. Instead, the odd little device had jingled a pleasant little bell more than an hour earlier and in naught but the light of a lantern, Janis had washed with water from the provided basin, patted himself with the proper oils provided for skin care and less invasive scents, dressed in his lower layer of clothes, put on his tech suit, pulled over and fastened the gown-like top, packed his things and put on his traveling robes. A breakfast downstairs of fruit and bread chased with a hot mug of peaberry tea soon saw the Rentisian scientist outside and bright-eyed, smiling at the little bit of pre-dawn life to be seen.
By the time the others had gotten down there, however, he had moved back inside out of the chill, content to watch out the window while nursing a second mug of the brew.
*Kegan*
The change in lighting, of course, did not bother Constance at all, though he once more kept his eyes closed. If the priest chased them out because he thought Constance a demon, it would not help their condition. "We were," he confirmed for them. "Igashu received a head wound, I a wagon to my side. I am not sure of the status of the woman, best to let her speak for herself."
