"I have my sword," Rensik answered, "but I'm not leaving it anywhere. It can stay sheathed, but it goes wherever I go. That's not a point for negotiation."

He didn't quite understand what he meant but tried to convey his idea as best he could, "Is there...some kinda way you can make it match your other eye? Or make it not reflect anything?"
Mechio indicated his own eye, and with little effort, plucked it out of his face , "See make it match like mine do? I used to have a brown one and a blue one, after she finished 'polishin' the brown one I had to go lookin' around for something to fill up the gap."
He plopped it back into his skull before continuing his explanation, "When she's actin' like she's been possessed by a Disir she starts polishin' anything she can get her hands on until it shines or until it 'matches'. Any other day I wouldn't ask this of you and make you uncomfortable...."
At Rensik's comment he nodded, "Try to refrain from takin' it out though, as long as she doesn't see it it should be fine. ...Don't think badly of her, she didn't used to act like this."

"I don't have a match..." Jude mumbled, shutting the offending eye. "Is this okay?"

Mechio looked him over and nodded with satisfaction, "Yep, that should be fine."
He rubbed his rigid hands together and indicated to the door, "Well we should be alright now." As he said this, he pushed the door open, and as somewhat expected, his mother was still hunched over the table that had a blasphemous lump on it. He had to announce his arrival with a bellowing "I'm back" and even then she had to unwillingly pry herself away.
After she'd turned to fully face them she addressed them, "Welcome to the Blue Jay. A nights lodge is free in this kingdom. Shall you be staying the night? The special for today is frost meal and glacia rolls, oh and of course we have some delicious melcho liquor if you care to try it."
Mechio winced a bit at this, "Of course they'll be stayin' the night." He looked at them, "Well do you want to share a room or separate ones?"
While he was asking she brought up the little diaphanous cloth she was using up to her mouth, as if to mute her words, "Oh no the tower mirror must have broke..."

"Eheh ..." Rensik rubbed the back of his silver-haired head in embarrassment before leaning over to Mechio. "She doesn't remember anything for very long while in this mindset, does she?" he asked, not in an offending way, but as one who simply wants to make sure lest he do something stupid.

Mechio whispered a "I'll explain later" and intentionally raised his voice again, "So it'll be one room I take it? I'll arrange for the food and drink as well mum, you can rest your tired heart."
She seemed shell-shocked at the suggestion but slowly began to nod in agreement and mutter to herself, "Yes yes, what a responsible son I have, oooh I can just focus on this lump now and then fix the tower mirror later... yes yes he's such a good boy...."
After she'd happily returned to her compulsive task, Mechio hurriedly gathered up what he said he would and waved them to the back of the building.

Judas glanced over at the other newcomer with his human eye, shrugging nervously and following Mechio.

They didn't need to walk very far as the cozy inn was quite small, they found patches of intertwining growths that, despite their look formed sturdy footholds to climb up to the next floor. The hall of the next story seemed to made of slightly different materials, while mildly reflective, they weren't as transparent as anything they had seen on the first floor, most likely to allow for privacy in the rooms. Lined along the way were several small lanterns which had a small blue and white light flickering inside a piece of the upheld glass.
Mechio headed for the closest door from the stairs, using a tiny, transparent keylike object that he produced from the small assortment of things he was carrying. He held open the door for the other two to enter before gingerly closing the door after they'd walked in.
The interior of the room was neat and had the bare necessities in them. A larger replica of the lanterns they'd seen outside was near the entrance and there was a pair of small geologic looking things inside. The folded ghostly sheets on them implied that they were beds. Mechio set down the collection of foodstuffs and drinks on a small icy table that seemed to be sprouting out of the floor. He idly popped open a gluttonous sphere and took a gulp of what was most likely the melcho liquor that the inn keeper had offered.
"Anyway, as you may of noticed she's not quite the same," he pointed his drink-holding hand in Rensik's direction, " 'specially you.
"The travell'r girl mentioned that a lot of the people here act like row-bets or somethin'. It didn't make much sense to me but I do know that everyone seems to be stuck in something," he waved his hand in idle circles as he tried to extract the thought out of thin air, "like how the moon goes across the sky, yeah, that sort of thing."
He took another drink out of the beaker-esque container, but it was much shallower than the first, "So well, I guess this is what you guys will be callin' home from now on. I'll try and talk to you as much as I can so you don't fade as fast or get afflicted by a Disir or Parcae. It really would be a shame."

"No offense," Rensik answered, "but I don't plan on fading into anything. And I've dealt with my share of monsters and spooks." The ninja sat down on the edge of one of the beds and crossed his arms. "If you've got the time, why don't you tell us why everyone seems to think there's no way out, what this fading business is, and what a Disir and Parcae are."

"Well," Mechio began, "you saw the wall right? It's pretty much as impenetrable as the sky, or water even. From time to time I hear this terrible noise, once I even saw somethin' that looked like hell on the world, but the wall still stood after that."
He placed a hand on his chest, "I've been lookin' for a way under the wall of course."
He pointed upwards for a moment, "An' even though you can see the sky that ain't a way out either. I've never personally seen one of the flyin' ones try it, but they're still around, even the angry ones. Oh, I remember seein' one that froze to death bein' eaten by the sky-screamers. I guess the Moire didn't want 'im to leave."
Mechio caught himself using one of the native words, "I'll explain the Moire themselves later though... Now, don't get me wrong about the situation and all, but I've been tryin' to get out of here for...well a real long time. Since I can't fly or even try to break the wall, I've been lookin' for anything that can go under it. So far no luck as you all can tell though."
He took some time to catch his breath before beginning his explanation about the native words he'd been using, "Now, what you asked about, I'll try to describe it but I ain't the best at it: the Disir are the people that can wrap people with sights of things that ain't there, sometimes they do it for fun other times they do it outta spite. The Diviners are the only one that can fix someone who's been wrapped up by a Disir.
"The Parcae are the ones that keep the balance of things in a way, usually they can be asked to make someone healthy or make 'em sick. The Parcae never kill anyone though, they only make people and animals and plants suffer or recover. They're always listening though and if you ask for too much, even if you're just jokin' they'll make you suffer for a very long time.
"And the Moire are the workers of death. Sometimes if a Norn, Parcae or Matres wishes it a Moire can be bargained with, but usually they aren't listenin', they got no reason to quit their business. Sometimes they seem like they're cruel and evil, but its usually for the better."
The overview was punctuated with another gulp of the wine before he continued, "They're a very rare sort of people of course, I personally think they're invisible but some say they can see 'em, others say they even talked to them. I take that kinda claim with a speck of ice, but I don't doubt they exist though. Like with the Matres and Sigrdrifa.
"Matres are the kindest of the lot, they protect the harvest and good children, punish the bad ones so they grow up right. Course they miss one or two along the way but there's only so many to watch over the little ones. The Sigrdrifa are like the Matres but they watch over the adults and when we still had access to the other world for safe travel. You'd be askin' for a swift dealin' with a Moire if you didn't ask the Sigrdrifa for protection in some way or the Norns for good luck before startin' any pilgrimage."

Rensik rubbed his chin for several moments in thought as he analyzed this new information. "So Disirs, they're illusionists. The rest, are they your gods or more like your priests?"

Mechio looked slightly puzzled but seemed to recall something, he seemed hesitant about his next words, "Well I guess you could call the Disir tricksters like that. And I'm not familiar with what you new ones call 'gods' or 'priests' but one of those 'priest' fellows said a 'god' was a thing that was almighty and powerful or somethin' like that. I think the King would be more like a 'god' then any of the others but well, this all started because we thought the king was gonna die. That 'priest' said 'gods' don't die, so I guess we don't have any 'gods'. They're people but yet they ain't people."

Mechio tilted his head from side to side as though weighing the explanation, he took a look at the glassy sphere in his hand and the liquid swishing inside of it. After a glance at it and a small acknowledging sound he made his way to the transparent table and poured a bit of the purplish liquid on it. As it spread on the table he spoke, "Well think of your memories and what you look like, like this," he moved his hand along the table so that the liquid smeared across it, "as time goes on and you're not reminded, you change and very little of you remains the same." As he spoke he merely continued to gently slosh the beverage across the table, and as he explained, it became lighter and lighter until it was fairly gone despite the liquid never being wiped up or falling off its surface.

Rensik furrowed his brows in thought. "You're saying people forget things faster than normal here? Then what? They turn into - no offense - ice sculptures like everyone else?"
