Taxen could immediately tell the look of one who had served in the military, even if they were from different realms. He just had that feeling. He had no idea what the symbol on the man's necklace represented, but then again, how could he?
Taxen picked up the paper and rolled it back up, briefly taking a moment to tie it closed. He then placed the four copper pieces back into his pouch as he was not served the ale. Before the night was over however, he was determined to get at least one mug of ale. He also noticed being referred to as kid. Normally at his age, he resented it, but he accepted it as a term of reference in differentiation of age. He decided not to let it bug him. He then prepared himself to follow the barkeep.

The man led Taxen back into the back of the inn, past drink barrels and through a wooden door out the back of the inn. It was a large, canopied area with a large pile of scraps and various iron parts. To the left was a cold forge.
"In my younger years, I was quite the tinkerer," the man explained as he stood off to one side. "Every once in a while, I play the role of backup blacksmith when Jules is out of town or under the weather. You're right, I've never heard of a weapon like the one you showed me, and some of the finer parts, you may have to improvise, but you pay for the scrap and run the forge yourself, and you can have at it."

Taxen couldnt help but crack a smile at the sight of the forge. Sure it was cold, and looked a bit rough around the edges, but the barkeep was allowing him to use it. Generosity of that kind was hard to find. He'd have to pay for the scrap, but that was fine, the forge use was free, and that sweetened the deal. But still, it may have just been paranoia, but it didn't feel right.
"I appreciate this. Make no mistake I really do, but why the generosity? I haven't even paid ya for a mug of ale yet. Don't even have your name nor do you have mine." Taxen questioned politely.

"Cornelius Harnerstead," the large man answered. "And don't be reading into it as sheer generosity. I got scrap, you need scrap, I make a sale. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad ta help ya, kid, but if I can get some money for some of this scrap, it's worth letting you use my forge. Just make sure you clean it out when you're done."

"Alright, alright, you make a good point. Uh, Taxen McDraft by the way." Taxen said as he began eying the scrap around the room. There was enough here to make the pistol component moulds, bullet moulds, all he could ever need. Though the scrap metals were just that, scrap. If he did come up with a firearm from all of this, it would be pretty lack luster. Still, if it roared like thunder, Taxen was happy. He had enough experience to know what he was doing, but it would take time.
"Let me get an idea for your going rates on scrap. How much will a single gold coin purchase in terms of scrap?" Taxen questioned looking around the room.

Cornelius reached up and rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Well, really, it's just scrap. Most of it's rusted, or else it would've sold ta Jules for material for him. Make me an offer and if I like it, it's a deal."

"Humm..." Taxen thought to himself, he wanted the scrap, but he didnt want to be desperate for it, nor too generous. "Five copper a pound, so five silver pieces for ten pounds." Taxen offered.

"Ten silver for ten pounds," the old barkeep haggled back.

"Scrap metal, no matter how much I need it, aint worth a full gold piece for merely ten pouds of it." Taxen debated. "7 Silver." He haggled in return. (Diplomacy Check Dice roll: 2+1= 3....*sad face*)

"And if you happen to damage my forge, I'm stuck holding the bill. Think of it as collateral," Cornelius replied. "Eight and not a copper less."

If it were to be collateral, then he should be getting his money back when finished. Though, he still was able to lower the cost down by two silver pieces. Better than a full damn gold piece.
"Alright, eight it is." Taxen sighed putting out his hand to shake on the agreement of payment transfer.

The barkeep nodded and shook on the matter. "If you need anything, come get me. I'm heading back to the bar."

"Yeah, no problem." Taxen replied as he turned to the work that was before him. It would take a few hours before he would be finished, and then he could worry about getting a mug of ale. Moving to one of the tables he removed his hat and armored coat and placed them neatly onto the table. Next he unfurled the blueprints and looked about the room.
"Lets see... coal..." And with that, Taxen began his work...
