"What is your assessment, Judge 7834?" The commander said simply, there was rarely pleasentries and formalities with the Examiners. The commander's eyes bore down on Gexor coldly as the Judge handed his weapons to a passing drone.
Gexor remained quite casual when compared to the commander, taking off his coat and placing it in the hands of one of his two drone assistants. "Secondary reevaluation is requested, Commander."
The commander raised what passed for an eyebrow and glared at Gexor. "What?"
Gexor smirked. "The planet in question is just far too complicated for a single examination, Commander. You would need all of Hive Prime and Hive 2 to figure this one out."
The commander frowned at the Judge. "The incident in which the Examiner Hive required a secondary assessment was Planet 563 of Galaxy 79, Universe 5. That was three thousand years ago. Are you suggesting that we as a species have not developed since then?"
Gexor nodded. "Yes, I'd say so, considering the decision on the fate of that planet is still subject to inquery to this very day."
There were a few stifled gasps and chatter started to break out between the younger soldiers. "Do you realise what would happen to you if the Overseer heard that?" The commander yelled.
Gexor smiled more. "Yes, his personal mate would have a fit. But, what else would one expect from a creature that breeds exclusively?"
There were more urgent mutterings, even some of the more experienced Examiners were now exchanging frantic gossip. "Judge 7834! You are the most foul, insubordinate, unorthodox Judge I have ever seen!" The commander bellowed.
Gexor frowned and walked up to the commander. "Now you listen here. May I remind you, I am the only Judge you've got in this SECTOR! And may I also remind you, I have the authority to order each and every one of these fine gentlemen to grab you by the tentacles and throw you into one of the airlock confinement chambers! You are in no position to yell at me, nor are you in any position to make threats at me. And you are certainly not in the position to question MY opinions!" Gexor yelled back with twice the ferocity. Several of the drones looked at each other with concern, thinking that the frenzied Judge may actually give such an order. What was worse was that he was right. He was officially the most powerful Examiner on the ship, in terms of rank.
The commander shirked back from the sudden verbal outburst. He was quiet for a few minutes. The drones fell silent as they waited for the inevietable lash back. They were shocked, though, when the commander slinked back a bit. "What do you suggest?" He asked meekly.
Gexor kept his frown, but was visibly satisfied. "Now that's better. Anyway, I suggest we give them the trial by fire treatment."
The commander looked at the Judge in confusion. "The what?"
Gexor sighed. “You’re an idiot. A trial by fire is a test of …”
“I know what the term trial by fire means, Judge 7834!” The commander yelled. “What are you insinuating?”
Gexor smirked as a devilish glint shone in his eye. “Invasion, Commander. Invasion.”

A youthful looking man with red hair in a plaid business suit was shifting through some papers at a news desk. He looked hard into the cameras pointed at him. “Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve just got word of a breaking story. About ten minutes ago, large ships of unknown origin appeared over population hotspots around the world. We’ve no actual information on these ships at this time, but if everything we’re seeing is true, we may have contact with an extraterrestrial species. Here’s Damian Fir for more info. Damian?”
The screen changed to show a slightly older man with graying hair. He was wearing a dark green business suit and was holding a microphone. “Thank you, Glenn. As you can see, I’m here in Cairo, Egypt, one of the many places that is bearing witness to this historical event.” Damian waved to his surroundings, and then pointed to a large dark green mass that was floating over the city. “As you can see, Glenn, this thing simply cannot be of this world. So far, there as been no action taken regarding this, so all we can do right now is….” The reporter was cut off by a loud banging noise. The cameras looked up at the ship again, but the only thing the film caught was a flash of green light and the sound of screams before it was cut off.
Glenn almost leapt back when he saw the footage. “Holy sh…” He cut himself off and became as white as a ghost. “One of the ships is here… Seth!” Glenn leapt over his desk and ran out the door.
(Okay, all characters will begin in British Columbia, the British Columbia ship hasn't attacked yet, so the characters might be watching TV and seeing the attack on Cairo, or maybe going about daily buisness, or just staring dumbfounded at the ship.)
