At this point Graham was wondering where his blade was at this point, he knew he was still capable of fighting but not as efficiantly without it. He hoped that this force that was just up ahead happened to be the same force that the monster who stole his sword served. "How far are we away?" Graham asked Veon.

"Not that far. Relax, I'll do the talking. They look to be local militia." The group proceeded then to advanced towards the mining town. As they approached, the two armed guards seemed to hesitate at their approach, almost as if they were about to break into an offensive stance with their halbards.
"S-state thy name and bussiness!" One of the guards called out, a little to loudly.
"My name is Veon Creodus, Paladin of the Church of Lathander the Morning Lord. And these here are my comrads in arms. We seek to merely pass through on route, nothing more." Veon introduced.
"I've to inform you, sir Creodus, that all travel from this point under General Harfor's orders has been blocked due to military activities." The guard said, eyeing the wyvern.
"I think I recall this region through some study. I assure you, we are more than capable of handling ourselves through any orc ambush." Veon explained, recalling that orcs had plagued the area, the area was full of 'holy sites', and that when the mining began, problems arose.
"'tis not the orks sir. Something worse has set foot in the area." The guard responded.
"Something worse than the orcs? What is it? We could lend a hand if need be." Veon interjected. This claim, garnering Daristan's ire, as he muttered something under his breath on how they are short on time.
"I'm not at liberty to say sir. We are under-" The guard began, before the other quickly spoke up.
"The dragon! Is it tame?" He blurted out. The other guard quickly gave him a disaproving look for his outburst. Before he could reply though, the guard continued.
"If it's tame, then maybe it could be used to help us! We need all the help we can get!" The other guard began to explain his disproval, and soon the two guards began engaging in a squabble. Veon turned back, then spoke aloud, to the group, but not enough for the guards to hear.
"We can probably turn this situation into our favor." He noted.

Hubert looked a tad... miffed, to say the least, and let out a series of short growls and low grumbles.
Andres immediately hopped up. "Uh, allow me to translate... "My name is Hubert. I am not a dragon, rather a wyvern, and I am not tame. However, I am quite friendly and am not the mindless beast you make me out to be. If you don't mind, I dislike being referred to as such. And I also dislike being "used". However, if it will benefit us, I will gladly assist you." That is all." Andres said.

"Yes," Strife agreed, stepping forward to offer the guards a harsh little grin. It must have been strange to them, such a sinister-looking and armed child traveling with such a group. "Harmless to you, so you see? If you will let us past, we will see what we can do about helping you. What exactly is the problem?" He paused for a moment, then added, "Most of us are quite the accomplished group of, ahh...'heroes.' You are perhaps not at liberty to reveal information, but I--we--assure you that you will not regret it. And surely," He snickered. "Surely your superiors will reward you for finding such a fine band to aid your cause!"

"Bribing and bragging shouldn't be done," Maxwell told the boy as he stepped forward to address the soldiers. He brought his fist up across his chest in greeting.
"I am Maxwell Fueller, Fire Guardian of Battleon. If aid is needed, I am sure our group would be glad to do whatever we can."

"Bribing and bragging shouldnt be-" Maxwell began, but suddenly, one of the guards cut him off.
"Wait wait wait wait... you saying that you'd work for no pay!? And you'd lend us that Wi-Fern!?" One of the guards explained, the other then looked to the other, and whispered.
"That gnome may be roight, maybe our superiors will reward us for findin' mercenaires who wish for no pay." They talked for a short while, before looking back to the group.
"Alright then, follow us then!" The two guards said as they opened the doors to the mining town, and began rushing for the Stationed Head Quarters of the town, expecting the group to follow.

Cassandra scowled. "No pay!? I'm all for helping our fellow man, don't get me wrong, but I gotta eat!" She whined.
"Wyvern" Hubert growled testily. "Not wi-fern...."
"Just try to overlook it..." Andres offered.

Maxwell frowned, but in thought not in offense, and he crossed his arms over his chest for lack of a better thing to do for several moments before following after the soldiers.

A tiny, triumphant smirk had begun to form on Strife's face until he heard one of the guards refer to him as a gnome. It vanished then, and he just blinked. A gnome? They thought he was a gnome? Well that just ruined his mood. He even heard Erie snicker behind him, temporarily taken by her ghost to mock his situation. Wonderful. And he'd been going to gloat to that warrior Maxwell, too. All he could manage now was a muttered, "Whatever gets us inside...," and even then the words weren't satisfying. Turning to shoot his snickering sister a glare, he marched after the guards, growling, "I am not a gnome!"

Judas covered his mouth politely, restraining what might or might not otherwise have come out as a rather unsettling giggle. Without a word, he followed the others, that bright, friendly smile renewed on his face.
Gnome. Hehe.

The two guards took the group through the town. What had once been a bustling mining town full of trade, importation and exportation had been converted into a full on military establishment. The group was garnering a lot of attention, mostly due to the Wyvern that was traveling with them. Unlike the town though, it was not attracting fear and panic as much as curiosity. Soon they reached a large building, with a large wooden plank over the top the read "Head Quarters". Numerous guards stood out front. One of the guards that was escorting the group walked up to the stationed guards, and began explaining the situation, after a few minutes, he walked back.
"Alright, you all can come inside, under our permission! But the Wet-Fern's gotta stay ou'side! He be too big af'eral! "Oh and yeah, let me do the talking, they are uptight and all that..." He said as he began walking inside. The group then followed, through a series of hallways until they came to a large room. Various men adorned in military garb hovered around a table... discussing.
"For the last time, magic does not work on them, the golems are not affected by it!" One man exclaimed.
"If they are golems, they were brought to life by magical means, and thus they can be taken apart by magical means." Another of the tacticians said.
"Our mages sensed no magic on their being whatsoever, or any sort of divien essence, they can only be called golems in the technical sense that they are inanimate objects walking around."
The crowd continued debating and arguing over the make up of their mysterious enemy and what actions to take against them. One of the guards spoke up.
"Captain Hypore Sir! I bring mercenaries who wish to aid our cause!" However, the Captain did not even look up.
"Our funds our stretched enough, and we have enough mercenaries. Send them away." The guard looked hesitant for a moment, he did not like speaking back to the Captain after having been given an order.
"Captain Sir! They wish to work without pay! And they have a Wi-Fern!" The Guard exclaimed again. The Captain put his hands over his face, obviously unimpressed.
"Fine, if they wish to meet their death on the field of battle, send them to the tactical office, now leave us be!" The captain noted in an irritated manner. The guard looked a bit disgruntled, the reward that they had been told to recieve, seemed distant now.
"Alright... follow me." The guard said as he began leading the group to the tactical office to inform them of the situation.

Sparky, still on Maxwell's shoulder, seemed insulted at all the attention the bigger dragon was getting, but the Guardian rubbed the hatchling's frills as he now followed the guard to the tactical office. "Relax, bud," he told the dragon, "your time will come. They'll all get the opportunity to see what you can do."
The hatchling apparently reassured, Max went on to muse. "Constructs that don't use magic ... Sounds like something the Drakels would come up with. Nasty things. I believe they called them robots."

Andres had hung back, staying with Hubert. The wyvern growled bitterly. WYvern. WY-VERN. Not wi-fern or wet-fern or wa-turn! WYVERN!
"Just relax..." Andres muttered, stroking the beast's head.
Meanwhile, inside, Cassandra perked up. "Robots?" She grinned. "Oh, robots aren't the ones you have to worry about. It's the androids you have to watch out for..."

Inside, the steampunk knight blinked in confusion. "There's a difference? I always thought they were pretty much the same thing, just a different shape."

"Androids are the human-like, smart ones." Cassandra said. "Whenever there's a situation where machines take over the world or revolt against mankind, chances are an android is behind it. Robots... typically robots just run programs."
