Mokuva noticed the coming mermaids and knew them instantly. "The Tide water clan is it, they are always very curious and fond towards humans."
She sighed in relief, they would be overjoyed at the prospect of peace with humans. She had nothing to worry about with them here, though she was a little disappointed her clan had not arrived first. She swam out of the way of the coming clan, she didn't want to be in the way of a Tide waters enthusiasm.

Flower was right. Lots.
Both she and Ian were overcome by jostling crowds of Mairsile's sisters and cousins, all intensely curious and eager to have a look at the two new comers. Ian couldn't understand a word of all the psychic chatter and couldn't see a thing past the storm of blue tails the sounded him, and in another moment each of his view ports was blocked by puzzled and smiling faces. "It's a man!" he heard one of them say. "There's a man inside!" In blushed and could feel many tails coiling around him. He seemed to have picked up one for each arm and leg and on around his waist. He felt himself blush as he pleaded with them to ease off. "Ladies pleas, if you would just..."
"This one's mine!" One of them shouted. It was only the weight of Ian's suit that saved him from being dragged off. Each mermaid was pulling him in a different direction as they argued and squabbled. "No. he's mine! This is my male!" "I'm the oldest!" "So? I'm the prettiest." "You are not!" "Yeah, I'm the prettiest!" "What's he even wearing? We need to get it off first if any of us are going to mate with him."
Ian yelled for Flower as he struggled in vain to save himself from a whirlpool of lust. But Flower was trapped by a crowd of another sort. None of them would stop touching her tail. She'd turn around to try to keep it away from one only to have it grouped and poked by another eager and curious mermaid. A little annoying, but Flower was nonetheless thrilled. "She's not from around here. What clan has a tail like that? What Clan are you from?"
Flower smiled proudly. "I'm my own clan. The Coral Bloom clan!" This claim fascinated the others, who pressed for more answers, keeping Flower busy as Ian was pleading to be let go before he died of embarrassment. Yet there were those of the Tide Water party who had instead taken greater interest in the ship who's silhouette floated over a hundred feet above the social frenzy. Several of the Mairsile's wild siblings were even so bold as to climb up the Sojourner's anchor chains, and once they had flopped themselves onto the deck they stared in awe at the stunned men who made the mistake of staring back, unknowingly encouraging the interest of their amorous visitors.

After sending the good doctor off, Jack had retreated back to his own room. He'd been prodding and observing a tiny seed surrounded by a pocket of air that was bobbing around in a jar full of sea water.
He'd been trying to perfect the minor air charm he'd manage to somehow discover and read about, but the vague success of the little seed still troubled him. The book had been particularly ambiguous about how well it would work or how long it would function properly or if it even worked on humans.
He was so engrossed with testing how well the bubble retained its shape that he didn't notice the scuffle going on about the ship.

The girl that walked up behind Jack was naked except for the shelled brassiere that held her bosom aloft outside the water, but she didn't seem to be aware she was violating any societal code. Her hair was drenched, as was the rest of her, and the salt water rolled off of her pale flesh, pattering against the wooden floor. She peered past him at the little seed in the little bubble. "Oh!" she observed, her voice going directly into his mind instead of through his ears. "Is this human magic?"

Maybe it was because he wasn't directly facing her or maybe it was because he wasn't always the sharpest nail in the box, but he replied just as normally, failing to notice the difference in the lack of verbal communication, "I have no idea, the book said it originated from the Scotland Islands, it could be a Fae charm for all I know..."
He turned his head to go through the motions of introduction. He didn't get much farther than "I don't think I-" before he ended up flailing to the other side of the room at noticing how naked she was.

Mairsile tipped her head to one side in confusion at the male's reaction. "What's wrong?" she asked, her lips never moving. "Did you trip?"
The girl glanced back to the jar and studied it for a moment, then raised her hand toward it, a small glow forming about her palm, and a matching one surrounding the bubble. She raised her hand up and the bubble followed suit, raising up out of the jar into the air. She let out a giggle before another thought passed through the space between them. "This is a lot easier above water, huh? Not as much resistance!"

Oddly enough, her actions caused for his fear and surprise to be tossed to the side, "H-hey wait I need that in the water!"
He fumbled around where he was sitting among the furniture and other supplies he'd retreated to. Jack soon had another jar of seawater in his hands, it had more bubble-seeds that were in comparably worse condition and held the lip of it in her direction. He realized she was still naked though so he was torn between holding the jar and covering his eyes.
"I really need that back in here, I don't know enough about it to do that kind of thing to it."

"Oh, okay ..." she answered, setting the seed gently back into the water. Mairsile crossed her hands behind her back and turned to face him. "So ... if you're not this ship's wizard, where is he? I'd really like to meet him."

The other seeds gurgled as their superior brother returned to the water. Jack cupped his hand over the jar's lid and eyed her intently, mainly her face.
"I'd like to meet a wizard myself, I don't think there is one on the ship, I think I'm the closest to it, but that isn't saying much."
He cautiously set the jar back down and placed a hand on his chest, feeling for the shape of Sign beneath for confidence. "Are you some kind of sea witch...?"

Unaware that such was a derogatory term, the girl nodded enthusiastically. "Yup! I'm Mairsile, a sorceress for Clan Tide-Water!" She frowned a moment later, though. "Though I really don't have much training. That's why I was hoping to find your ship's wizard, to learn more."

He took her response literally and launched into what mythic jargon he knew, "Ah a sea sorceress then? How odd, your teacher is supposed to give that to you only once you've graduated from his or her tutelage. But if you're looking for a wizard...does that mean your teacher kicked the bucket?"
Jack gestured to her body, "Mairsile, why are you naked anyway??"
A moment later though the phrase "Clan Tide-water," her lack of clothing and the doctor's report finally clicked in his head, "OHMIGOD, YOU'RE A MERMAID."
He hopped around to the other side of the room, ripped the sheets off the bed, and held it out for her. There was a new look on his face, one of great anticipation and genuine curiosity but it appeared rather perverse for such an expression.

She blinked in confusion as she accepted the sheet from him, unsure what it is for. "Naked?" she asked. "What is naked? I do not understand. But yes, I am a mermaid. I specialize in alteration magic, so I'm able to give myself legs for walking on land."

With the sheet out of his hands he started rubbing his hands together, "It's nothing important in the grand scheme of things." He calmed himself somewhat and tugged lightly at his own clothing to indicate what he was talking about, "'Naked' is basically when you don't have any of this stuff."
Jack clapped his hands together, "But as I said nothing important! So you know magic? The report said only the Moon Scale clan did that," he laughed airly, "You must be very special! Are you self-taught? How does your magic work?"
Enthusiastic as he was he was also being very rude. He seemed much more focused on the magic of Mairsile rather than the mermaid herself.

Fortunately, Mairsile loved to talk about magic. It was her favorite topic. But she understood what he meant. She had seen clothes before, and now that the excitement was wearing down, she could tell why. Outside of the water, the air was cold and it chilled her. She wrapped the sheet around her as well as she could, though it did little good as it stuck to her wet skin.
"Moon Scale are the best magic-users," she admitted, "but not the only ones. They have the most and the best, though. I am, indeed, self-taught, as I was never allowed to go elsewhere to study."
