Rensik seemed particularly in a foul mood about the change of settings and strode past Mechio, since the matter with him was now effectively resolved, and addressed the Watcher. "Watcher, I think it's time we addressed the matter of the Disir. Would there be any tomes in the library we were in that would help?"

The Watcher stared widely at Mechio before his attention flipped back to Rensik. He thanked Miroir and gingerly moved into a more proper standing position, "I think it would be better to find another source of information, I feel that Mavere's library has been sabotaged. Or perhaps we can attempt to find a Weaver on our travels."
Mechio added to the sentiment despite not making eye contact with them, "It'd be best to leave 'ere as soon as poss'ble. Ev'n if we've got no map, there's alw'ys the next town."

"Agreed on both accounts," Rensik nodded to them both, then turned to the others. "Let's get our things from the inn, then, get the horses and head out."

Slipping her hands briefly into her cloaks, likely to deposit the invisible threads, Miroir stood gracefully and curtsied to nobody in particular, her head bowed to her chest. "I've naught but Guerre; a trip to the inn will not be needed for me."
And then, her green eyes slipping to Rensik, she added quietly, "And I apologize for being of so little help a moment ago."

"Don't worry about it," Rensik waved it off. "Those who live in the past accomplish nothing in the present."

The group gathered back at the inn, a place which felt to them they'd been away from for far longer than any length of a single night. Upon opening the door, they were greeting with a strange sight.
The old man who'd grudgingly given them a room was still by his station but now a color-drained husk. The watcher gasped at the sight, "But how?" He started towards the husk but was near-immediately verbally halted by Mechio, "He's one o' the fad'd now, leave him. We shoul' salvage what we can an' head to anoth'r check-point."
Quite unlike himself the watcher blubbered about, "How can you say that? The nerve-!"
The other glared at him, "If it ain't us usin' it, it'd be someone else. This place ain't secure." He took an intimidating step closer to the watcher, "If you ain't willin' I'll do it meself."
Mechio regarded the others when the watcher had nothing else to say, "Gath'r your things and whatev'r food was in the room, we leave in half an hour."
(For those curious or more than likely forgot, the old man 'died' on page 25.)

But when Mechio turned to face Rensik in turn, it was his blade that was between them. "Belay that order, soldier," he answered in a mocking tone about Mechio's supposed connections. "It'll be someone else, then, because I won't stand for thievery by anyone under my watch. Is that understood, Mechio? Just because you want to pull a personality 180 doesn't mean you're going to commandeer the whole party in the same direction."

"Dunno what you're sayin' about me bein' different. An' it ain't thievery," he stated flatly at the blade, though there was a flicker of uncertainty, "This place ain't well, there are no people here."
He took a dry gulp and a step back, his voice wavered, "Look around, and you'll figur' it out, we're the only livin', Mavere has fall'n." Mechio inhaled deeply and tried to approach the stairs again, "Honor won' restock our supplies, leavin' it here will only feed the Dust Eat'rs."

But the man's sword didn't waver. "I said no, Mechio. Do I seem like someone you really want to push on that?"

His eyes flickered for a moment, there was a vague growl and half-choked laugh at the back of his throat, he raised his blue-tinted fingers up in defeat, a lazy smile traced his ghostly face, "You're the expert on the kingdom, you can do the hon'rs of findin' more hon'rable supplies, sir."

"Here's a thought," he answered simply. "We barter or pay, just like everyone else. If we can't get what we need, we improvise on the road. Again, just like everyone else. The old man probably had family. If things are going to get bad like you say, they'll benefit from the resources he had. It isn't right to take from them for our own convenience."

A quick smile, "Sure thin'," followed by a sharp frown, "Find someone."
(And they never did.)

"You don't understand," Rensik answered right back. "I don't mean right now. I for one intend to leave tonight. If you want their stuff, then you stay till morning and you pay for it."

"Naw, I understand perfectly, I think you don' underst'nd. It's empty ev'rywhere. But if ya say so, we can wait, letss all wait and hope that they don' land us back with that Disir!"
He wrenched a chair out from the table the old man had been sitting at when they first arrived, he didn't even get near the colorless husk of him, and sat at the table.
"Wonder how long we'll wait?"
The watcher looked like he wanted to say something, but wasn't quite willing to put out the words for it.

One quick slice. That's all it took. Low and from behind, and the chair lost all support, dropping Mechio to the ground. With that, Rensik calmly returned his sword to its sheath on his back as if nothing had happened and started toward the stairs. "My things are gathered. I suggest you all do the same."
He paused at the bottom of the stairwell, one foot up on a step as he glanced back at them all. "We leave in half an hour. And I don't want to catch anyone with anything that's not theirs." And with that, he headed on up the stairs.
